but I don't argue with your "A good movie doesn't need a qualifier on it. If you like film and can appreciate more than one type of movies, then there's no reason why anyone wouldn't find some value in The Proposition."

what if he only watches Transformers, Fast and Furious, and Crank all day? he could find it boring and tedious
If he only liked Transformers, F&F, and Crank, then worst case he just wasted $10.

I think it was understood that he'd have some sort of interest in the movie if he was even questioning it. We have to assume some preliminary research was done on his part with regard to genre, actors, director, etc. (any possible immediate red flags for him) - that's just a posters responsibility (to avoid frustrations on everyones part) - so, if he was OK with the idea of a western and the cast/crew, then I'd say it was a safe recommendation. We don't need to know the details of his movie tastes in the cases of topics like this, we can, safely, assume he's open to watching a western and has some initial interest. It's, frankly, not really our responsibility to make sure an OP has done enough research so our praises (or criticisms) of a given film are taken in the right context - in the case of this topic, it seems the OP did what we all assumed he would.

I took offense to the egocentrism remark, so I responded.

it's ok, it's human nature to be a bit egocentric. I do it all the time too but if people don't give me the info I would like to have I would ask for it before making a reco

Great thread.

I just purchased this from Amazon last week for $9.99. As my first "blind buy" I'm happy to see the consensus is positive.

This movie, I've concluded, is in my opinion the best Western I've ever seen, and I've probably seen almost all of them. Raw, gritty, great characters and action, just a gut shot of a Western movie.

If you are a fan of Nick Cave then the movie is a must. You always listen to Nick Cave and his very story driven songs (similar to Tom Waits) and can't help but to wish he would write a screenplay! Anyway it is a great flick but I have not watched it on Blu yet .. saw it in the theaters a few years back!

Great movie, great price and great picture and sound quality. I can't really see any reason NOT to buy this.

It's a must have.

I must say, I'm pretty skeptical about that, but if you have, wow. I've probably seen well over 100 westerns, and I'm not even close to have watched them all.

That said, The Proposition was pretty dang good, and well worth the price!

Oh, man. I find it funny that they are releasing a special edition Blu Ray + DVD of this and the new cover resembles that of Red Dead Redemption the video game.

Smart marketing... I guess

I still like the UK artwork best (the first American release isn't bad either.. it's better than the re-release above)

Remove the BBFC rating, the review quote and the unnecessary audio logos at the bottom and it would have my vote. It just looks... messy.

and the studio logos

I don't dislike the audio logos or the the review quote as it helps fill in space. It's a bit messy but with a little cleaning up it would be a winner for sure.. Maybe smaller logos and changing the font/color of the review quote.

Either way you slice it, it's far better than the Red Dead Redemption artwork ripoff IMO.

Out of all the covers I've seen for this film I much prefer this one

That being said, I don't any of them are that fantastic. This one suffers from too much text. The quotes are completely unnecessary and muck up the design.

edit: that one made to look like Red Dead Redemption is ****ing terrible.
