just saw your pixel orbiter is set to automatic.....

Set that sucker to force 1.

On auto the pixel orbiter kicks in at varying stages depending on how long you have watched the same source. So watch the same channel for an extended period and the pixel orbiter will work more frequently.

Set it to force one and the pixel orbiter is working all the time not at intervals. This is a setting that should always be set to force 1

Got it. Gonna try this setting in custom for awhile and see how it goes.

I understand there will be IR say playing CoD4 for extended periods of time but the every 2 or less minutes really bothered me.

every 2 mins is a little extreme....see if setting that orbiter to force 1 changes anything. If not go to panasonic.com and talk to the techs at the concierge service.

OK. So I put the orbited on periodic 1. Took out my movie, checked for IR, there was none so I left the tv on the XMB for 2 minutes. Now I can see the entire background in IR!

I have the blade runner theme on with a picture of the giant screen showing a womans face and flying cars. It is in no way bright or vivid.

This is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. I will be emailing panasonic. Hopefully they have some more suggestions and if all else fails, maybe a refund/exchange. (which I highly doubt)

I'm trying really hard here not to be pissed, but it seems I will just have to keep running the Scrolling Bar every day until I sell the tv.

Most likely more than 30 days. Not entirely sure of the delivery date.

Tiger Direct. My friend got a discount for it.

This actually seems to be getting worse now. I was doing the scrolling bar and when it stopped the menu stays up for about a minute then goes to black. I can see the ghost of the menu.

Is anyone else with this tv getting IR? I mean leave the menu up for a minute then go to black screen. In a perfectly dark room.

I have a 50G10, i get 0 image retention. I did maybe 40hrs of the break-in image then just started watching tv. I use the THX default setting with contrast at 100. Note that THX with contrast at 100 is not as bright as standard/custom/dynamic at 50.

I think what you might be seeing is something called "residual charge"? When you turn the tv off you can see some of the image, you might even seen a bit of ghost of what you were watching the next time you turn the tv on and have it on a completely black screen. This is only visable if your face is about 6" from the screen and disappears after watching something full screen for at least 40mins or so.

No need to panic, you're just seeing a temporary faint image on a completely black screen. If it's not visible during normal tv watching it is not a serious problem.

I can see it when I turn the TV off!!!!!

But it only seems to be on my tv. My parents have the 50S1 and they dont even get residual charge.

Is this a normal thing that I don't have to worry about kryptron?

Honestly, i wouldn't worry about it. I think all plasmas have some sort of residual charge to some extent. Obviously if your using brighter settings it will be more noticeable. It's like when you turn a light bulb off, you will see a bit of glow remain for a short while.

I remember seeing a lot of this with my parents CRT. I could see a faint ghost image of text and channel logos when it was in a no signal black screen. They still have that CRT and i don't see anything now even after they have been watching a program with a logo for hours.

I have to agree with kryptron, you will see some ghosting or rather as kryptron put it risidual charge, i believe this happens because it takes a little time for the phospures to cool, so the brighter the image the longer it takes to cool down so to speak, leaving a ghost image for just a few moments. If this were IR, then you would see it all the time even watching movies or regurlar programing, the Image would be there all the time.. I really enjoy this tv and think you made an excellent choice i wouldn't sweat it, it's normal.....

Default Phosphor Decay

Hello

You are entirely accurate and correct; very well stated, which should be helpful to everyone.

Thank You

No he's wrong, image retention is temporary, burn in is permanent. There isn't some third option.

Sir, I'm not sure what you mean by the above? I do not see where it was said that the OP's problem is burn in or image retention. I think the OP thought it was IR. But residual phosphor discharge is not considered to be Image retention, nor burn in.

I guess technically your wrong and i'm right and i'm wrong and your right, Longterm IR is what leads to permant IR or BURN IN, Burn in is simply a retained image that is permantly burned in to the phosphures, and is most suseptable in the first 100 to 150 hours of usage. I was merely trying to keep things simple for the OP so that he knew he didn't have a real problem and that it is normal, sorry for any confusion.....

Default Scroll Bar

If you see light spots while running the scroll bar does that mean you have burn in?
