Since Shout already adopted UHD why not release a second SKU with a UHD combo?

Ah, just like when the UK label who shall not be named did their edition of the Burbs, Universal did an oversampled 2K scan off an IP then handed off the raw data for said label to carry out the actual restoration on.

Hopefully there won't be the clumpy yellow grain typical of other Shout! releases.

I am sure Criterion will release Sisters sooner or later. They have it on Hulu (or at least, they used to).

Regarding the other Arrow De Palma releases, I don't think you're missing out on much by going with the Region A, besides "The Fury" which looks FAR, FAR better than the Twilight Time did and has great extras to boot. Phantom of the Paradise has better compression than Shout's, Dressed to Kill has the best compression of any disc using the older master with the non-blue color timing, I don't really know about Blow Out but know the Criterion release is very nice, and that's all they have IIRC. I only have Obsession, The Fury, and Dressed to Kill (I got it before the Criterion came out, but I also like the look of the old transfer a lot more than the new, cooler one). I'm happy enough with the Region A versions of Phantom & Blow Out. If I was going to import Phantom, I'd probably go for a version with the less oppressive color scheme (Arrow has the same one as Shout).
You mean, I can't use the Panasonic Top Menu trick to bypass the lock on the De Palma titles from Arrow?

I completely agree. I've pretty much stopped purchasing Blu-Ray's entirely because I know UHD are to come. If they are doing 4K scans it only makes sense...

I don't think that's what he's saying. There's a difference between a title being locked to Region B and your Panasonic being able to bypass the lock. The discs that will play via that top menu trick are still Region B locked. I'm sure you're already aware of that - I just think the other poster is saying that the first pressing of "Sisters" wasn't locked at all (no top menu trick would've been needed).

No, I didn't say anything about that. It gets tiresome putting that disclaimer on every single post I make about Region B Arrow discs, and I'm sure it annoys most people when I do it. :P Literally every single one of them seems to work with it apart from Rififi.

Oh yes, I get what he said about Sisters, but he said something like "you're not missing much going with the Region A discs" and didn't mentioned that if the other user had a Panasonic he could still go with the Arrow discs doing the Top Menu trick, that's why I thought maybe the trick wouldn't work on some of these discs.
But thanks for clearing that out anyway

Sorry, had no idea it was that annoying or tiresome.
I explained my confusion above

No problem. If you have a panasonic player and would be importing the American releases anyway, I would definitely get the Arrow versions of The Fury, Sisters, Obsession, Phantom of the Paradise, and maybe even Blow-Out (I'm not really sure if that's better than the Criterion or not). Especially since the Arrow sale going on right now means that Phantom and Blow-Out would be cheaper than the Scream/Criterion versions.

Thanks. I'm also interested in the Arrow edition of Dressed to Kill. I can't get used to the new Criterion transfer. Not for me.

Clauses, I don't see any boutique releasing a UHD release before the studio gets a release out

Ah, good point, I'd forgotten about that. But still, if MGM are that desperate for others to do their remastering for them, then someone doing their own UHD release isn't beyond the realms IF they can negotiate their way to it (particularly seeing as MGM have been VERY quiet on the UHD front).

Unfortunately, I don't see many studios releasing their back catalogs on UHD. Mostly what we're seeing is high profile money makers (which only makes dollars and sense). So, I'm still on the fence about UHD. There's also the huge x-factor of everyone going digital.

Maybe I'm wrong. I hope I am.

Damn. I'm so frustrated that I paid 4.99 for this 5 years ago when I think of how proud I would be today for not having done so.

I should have waited! Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Yeah, if you like the look of the older master definitely go for the Arrow. It has several extras that aren't on the Criterion, too. I don't have any interest in side-grading to the Criterion.

It happens. If you're a fan of a movie you support it by purchasing it. Especially if it's an upgrade over the last format release. The good news is you only spent $4.99. If you have a second hand store locally, you should be able to get like$2-3 in trade credit for it. Also half a decade ago is a long time $4.99 was a great purchase price back then.

recS-12, you are a better person than me. Genuinely empathizing when I was just being a dork. That's truly what makes coming to Blu-ray.com so awesome. It's members like you. I'm really being serious when I say that. I'm cool with the fiver I dropped back 2011 and will happily pay 22 or whatever to upgrade. Thanks for your positive and generous attitude nonetheless.

Now back to my regular program:

[sarcasm]Grrrrrrrrr. Just think! In the intervening years, I could have bought as much as 1.6 fish tacos! Why me?! Whhhyyyyyyyyyy?!!!!!![/sarcasm]

Ugh, fish tacos. The one time I ever had them, I had a bunch up in disgusting ol' Hurleywood in Wisconsin/Michigan and obviously got drunk off my rocker and spewed them everywhere. Never again!!!

/great story

Here's a recent article on Carrie I thought might be worth sharing:
