You ever watch Turner Classic Movies? It runs non-stop at my in-laws' home (that and religious programming, and Blue Bloods). Some of TCM's programming is hard to endure -- factory-line-assembly Golden Age Films, forgotten for a reason. For every Miracle at Morgan's Creek or It Happened One Night, it feels like there's fifty you've never heard of and won't remember next week. I disagree with your opinion that the "average" film from the Golden Age of Hollywood makes current films seem horrible, when we ourselves are living in a massive media glut of film product. Every decade has great films and completely forgettable junk. The 30's and 40's were no different. We just remember the good stuff worth remembering.

Well I could understand perfectly well if you went out of your way to post twice in a row over a disagreement about the thread topic.
But you're going out of your way to elaborate on a brief aside that I made in passing while discussing Loki. I don't understand why you do those things. Since you've already disrupted the flow of the thread with a lecture on classic cinema, I'll just say this: I know the Golden Age of Hollywood like the palm of my hand, I know the A-movies, the studio B-movies, the stuff Poverty Row was cranking out, the Saturday morning serials, etc etc etc. This includes a lot of stuff that is never even going to show up on TCM. And I stand by what I said. ![]() |

Definitely preferred the first episode, this one seemed a bit slow until the end, but I'll watch it a couple more times to see if it grows on me. There was a lot of talking in both of them but I really got into it in the first ep vs the second one not seeming as interesting to me.
It's funny because I'm seeing so many comments about people going crazy over the Hiddleston/Wilson chemistry and I'm like... they're fine? I haven't quite bought into it myself yet let alone being blown away by it, but to each their own. Confused about the exact implications of what happened at the end and how it's going to work but it was a good cliffhanger and I'm excited to see what happens next. |

It was decent, I hope this is the last of the paperwork and homework and it’s time to really play with some idiosyncrasy potential the shows been teasing. I am a tad worried the show won’t be able realise tithe full potential of the cliffhanger, and I hope they do something with
[Show spoiler] that can at least match Tom Hiddleston’s performance, from what we got it felt a little po-faced serious and that’d be disappointing if that was the entire character.

I don't have the comic book knowledge some here have, and the TVA is definitely goes beyond what I'm familiar with, so feel free to steer me back on course if I'm going off, but is the

Good episode, definitely a bit slower compared to the first but it expands the plot. Loved all the time travel stuff!

Definitely a slower episode, but I did really like the atmosphere in the final scene. Crazy to think that next week is the mid-point for the season. I really hope that, from here on out, it picks up with the wacky time adventures. They showed this episode that no time period is off-limits, so let's get crazy!

I actually liked this episode over the exposition dump of the premier. Though I found the pacing to be inconsistent. Opening was slow, then it picked up, only to slow down again, before having a momentous climax which left me anticipating next weeks.

This is definitely shaping up to be a fun ride much like WandaVision. In my opinion the exposition scenes are kept entertaining by Hiddleston and Wilson's solid chemistry.

Well, this second episode was a big improvement over the pilot episode. Marvel Studios keeps p***ing me off with all of this crap about having to needlessly explain everything in the content they are producing. It reminds me how Marvel Comics used to be back in the 1980's with their anal approach to origin stories in every first issue, or everytime they reboot or remake a comic series. The first episode did that. I'm also hating the infantile TVA animation sequences.
But, I did enjoy the second episode, overall. I just wish they would have used Kang as the villain instead of the Variant Loki thing. The one thing I didn't like was how they explained how everything is predetermined or predestined. It's an archaic concept. I believe that nothing is predetermined except our deaths, eventually, it catches us all. Just as I warned about CW's The Flash, and I correctly stated way back when the pilot episode debuted many years ago that The CW relying too heavily on time travel as a plot device would make the series too dependent on that story element. Not a single season as been made where time travel wasn't used. The production team uses it as a McGuffin when they are too lazy to explain something. But, I did like how the episode ended, revealing the Loki Variant that everyone is chasing. Wasn't expecting that reveal this early. Half expected that to be revealed by either the fourth or fifth episode. |

Thank goodness they introduced the variant early...one more episode mostly consisting of Hiddleston and Wilson desperately trying to be witty with each other would be way too much of a mediocre thing. Last edited by isolar801; 06-16-2021 at 10:46 PM. |

Second episode is keeping me engrossed. Tom Hiddleston is just chewing the scenery and having a grand old time.

The show is definitely interesting to me. It has a bit of a heady feel to it. Like it is about to get really confusing. (And I hope it does. Otherwise, it will feel like a missed opportunity to me).
I hope it gets really complex and convoluted before it gets resolved. That would be best. |
