Went to FS. Beware that The Fugitives at your store may be like here and are mixed good/bad. Got that VC1 version, finally. The Real Big Deal for me was the 3-disc Prince Caspian was only $10 after trade-in. The cheapest I have ever seen it (and not even the 3-disc) is US$20. Now if it only looks half as good as the upscaled R2 DVD does... I assume the Narnia 3-discer would be the same price.

Off to BB now, had to come home to get more DVD stock JIC. I didn't know they were open late on Saturdays... This town is dead, even deader than typical summer weekends. No cops, no cars. Just sayin'...

How did you get Prince Caspian for $10? It says it is $19.99 minus $5.00 trade in on Future Shop's website?

The POS system seems to control the trade-in to an extent.

I bought Taxi Driver at Future Shop, and later noticed a $0 trade-in discount even though the trade coupon was registered on the receipt.

Looking deeper, I think Taxi Driver is not on the Future Shop list, just on Best Buy.

Granted, that discrepancy by itself is probably the root of the problem - there's no reason Best Buy / Future Shop (one company) should have any differences on their lists, so it probably comes down to human error that each store has a few odd balls.

Save this discussion for elsewhere. You may want to write about your feelings on the subject, but this is a deals thread, not an article on The Consumerist.

You should have checked both lists, rather than assumed they were all the same titles. Furthermore, it has been mentioned several times in this thread that Taxi Driver is only part of Best Buy's sale.

What is the problem with that post? He is commenting to the deal posted, so I see no problem with it.

In regards to the orginal poster, Future Shop and Best Buy's systems are fairly similar, so I would not be surprised if they have the same blu-ray titles as part of the trade and save.

I don't know. I told them it was only $5 off, but 4 (yes *4*) different people insisted that I must have $10 off. I argued and argued but they insisted I must pay a lower price. I finally gave in... I'm only exaggerating a teensy tiny bit there, and not about the 4 people. The manager said BDs of $19.99 and more get $10 off per DVD traded in. Caspian was $19.99 before trade. As I mentioned before, I only expected $5 off.

I got Taxi Driver at BB, only 2 left at the time, both in the regular racks, not the trade-and-save racks. BTW, you really have to be on the ball at BB, most prices notably worse than FS and even much worse than WM regular prices, some the worst I've ever seen lol. And some of the trade-and-save (isn't that a Zellers copyright??) start at higher prices than FS too.

BB allowed me to trade in absolute junk. Any non-burnt DVD in any case*. That's what he told me. FS seemed a little more particular. I had a wide range of stuff from shrinkwrapped recent to DVD from a BD/DVD combo set stuck in a smashed DVD case with no cover liner (what I traded for Taxi Driver)... antoinedoinel is right, TD seems a Criterion-type package, very nice, I heard good things about the PQ but didn't realize the package was as extensive.

I must report that all the staff I dealt with at both FS and BB stores were in excellent humour today, and were most helpful/friendly/etc.

*edit: also no "adult", I forgot about that. Not sure why *that* restriction, since both stores made it clear they recycle the DVDs, it's not like they're going to kids' libraries or something. As if I'd trade in "adult" DVDs. If I had any. Why don't I have any? Now I want some...

^ Now that you mention it, all the signs at BB said $5 off only. No coupons used, trade DVDs at cash.

The coupons they give you at FS say both $5 and $10 off on opposite sides. You trade DVDs for coupons at CS, present coupons at cash.

Different titles, different methods, different allowed DVDs, same company (well, same owners).

I think it's $10 off the 3D titles at Future Shop.

I went in to BB today and picked up my GNOMEO 3D for $9.99. Thanks!

Interview with the Vampire is $14.99 at Future Shop, plus it is part of the trade and save which puts is down to $9.99. This is the lowest price the blu-ray has been for a long time. Trust me on this since I have been looking for this since the beginning of the year.

Default Gnomeo & juliet issue

I picked up the Gnomeo and Juliet bluray and was wondering if anyone else had the same issue. The artwork for my disc is too large for the case so it's just folded up in there. Also the case is a 4-disc holder with one slot empty. I was wondering if I should exchange it or if every copy is like that.

Another good deal is Red at $9.99 before trade (lowest i have seen for this movie), so it works = $4.99 after trade.

^ Dang, I missed that one, that is a very good deal. Thanks, I may have to go back now... Almost none of the T&S discs at the local BB had price stickers, I had to get price checks on a pile of them that I was kinda interested in. Got tired of that myself, but the employees didn't seem to mind...

Also at BB, check out those boxes of 3 BDs for $20 on the endcaps, may be one or two of interest, not a bad deal but movie specs aren't visible...

Edit: to be honest I have never really read any of the coupons that FS gives you when you trade the DVDs in. I chose the titles I wanted based on saving $5 each. I think when they gave me $10 off Narnia: Prince Caspian it was a mistake, but really, the manager did insist that's what it was supposed to be. I do not see this detail on their website. $15 is still great if that's all you get; according to the review on this site (I should read more reviews...) this is a "reference" title, even the DVD was excellent.

I was outlining a bit about how the mechanics of the trade and save deal which is infinitely more on topic than your personal comments. Yes people have posted that Taxi Driver is at Best Buy. I mistakenly assumed the same deal was at both stores since that's primarily how it works.

To reiterate, a huge amount of titles are common on both lists. I have numerous sealed titles with BOTH the Future Shop and Best Buy trade stickers on them. But occasionally there is an omission where a title exists on only one list but not the other. The most plausible explanation is configuration error, after all even the promo pages for the sale were late getting posted and buggy - same as last time!

There's really no need to bash Future Shop and Best Buy's systems in here, as neild has done countless times. I agree that they're far from perfect (along with the stores themselves), but there are sites dedicated to just this matter.

As for this sale: there's more than the occasional omission. A lot of the titles are the same, and a lot of them are not. It was the exact same scenario the last time they had it, so it's safe to say it's probably not an error. The likely scenario is that the studios dictated what titles were to be part of the sale, and Best Buy decided it would be a good idea to give each store exclusives.

So in Canada, buyers don't get the Disney file digital copy disc.

Perhaps that's why the 4th disc slot is empty and why the Canadian distributor designed the cover for a case with a thinner spine. Just speculating...

The film started as a Disney product, then it was moved to Miramax. During the time it was at Miramax they sold some of the international distribution rights (including Canada and the UK) to eOne. This was common for Disney to do with Miramax films (a large portion are distributed by other companies here)

Then when Disney sold off Miramax, they decided to hold onto the product and move it to Touchstone Pictures. Since the rights were already sold to eOne in Canada and UK we get the eOne release which is basically the same except no DisneyFile Digital Copy and no DMR points. Also no silver slipcover that matches the recent Disney 3D releases.
