Agree to disagree I guess
None of the movies have a decent story, to many sub plots and under devolved "character".

I enjoyed it for what it was. I didn't expect much.

I did leave the theater wondering
[Show spoiler]how the hell a giant ape down in hollow earth developed a placeholder for a giant glowing axe made from Godzilla's scales in the ground and built a statue of itself? That being said, hollow earth was the best part of the film for me that actually felt like an adventure.

I wish
[Show spoiler] hollow earth
was explored a bit more to explain some of these questions.

Skull Island will disagree with you.

In my opinion.

They vary though

I don't think a titan developed that. Seems like there's a whole world that is still unknown to us. Based on architecture and such.

The little bit of Hollow Earth civilization we saw in KOTM felt so different from what we saw in GvK. There's still so much to explore in that world.

And hey, if they want to bring Gamera into this, they could very easily attach the Heisei-era's Atlantis origin with the Hollow Earth stuff. The only problem is that the MonsterVerse's Godzilla is too similar to Heisei Gamera.

Plus the animated Kong already dived into underground Atlantis. But the Netflix animated Kong also already established Kong came from some underground world so nothing new there.

Christopher Nolan should congratulate Adam Wingard for the success of this movie. He accomplished what Nolan wanted to do with Tenet.

Solid numbers for the current box office, but I think bigger numbers are coming by summer.
The new James Bond movie will smoke these numbers even if it's awful.

I was really looking forward to seeing this one. Brings out the childhood fanboy in me to see both cinematic classic monsters sharing the same screen together.

I absolutely LOVE the original 1933 King Kong and saw the 1978 remake when I was 9 years old. THAT was pure MOVIE MAGIC to me. I Knew it was all Hollywood make-believe, but I enjoyed believing every moment of it.

When Peter Jackson's Kong was released, I was drooling with anticipation, but the payoff left me feeling disappointed and sad. As good as the special effects were, it just didn't have the same HEART as the 1978 version. It seems too distracted by trying to impress me with all it's high polished CGI, and attempt at making an EPIC tale....it actually felt flat to me. It was simply TOO much glitz and polish....it lacked in real heart.

I thought Skull Island was MUCH better, as it still had great effects, it also had a quicker pace in story-telling.

Now, we have Kong facing off with Godzilla, I really enjoyed the fighting scenes, I thought this film delivered in that department. But it focused SO MUCH on developing the battle....the film lacked an engaging plot with characters we can LIKE and can root for. Even the returning actors only served as a weak bridge to connect the two franchise monsters int the same Monsterverse. There was no real PLOT or story or character development.
It was just a bunch of overblown CGI, Loud noises, colorful scenery, and a bunch of people running around without real purpose.

Gosh.....even if the special effects ARE lacking in older films....at least they had stories and charcter development that we can follow and enjoy.

If he released Tenet this year, it would have done pretty well, in my opinion.

He's probably stoked that people are going to the theaters at all.

i disagree. gvk is a crowd pleasing flick that attracted families. my theater was full of families. tenet wouldn't of brought families to the theaters imo.

Tenet is family-friendly too. Nothing objectionable in there.

Well compared to last year lol.

Normal circumstances I think both Tenet and GvK make a ton.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I'm sure Nolan is ecstatic about these numbers. I just think it would make sense for Nolan to give Wingard props since this resuscitated theaters while Tenet (which I liked a good bit) couldn't.

Before renting this last night, I brought an extra subwoofer in and am glad I did. Great fighting scenes!
I like this movie! I am hoping that I'll get to see it in an AVX or Imax theater too.

I'm like an hour into it and it's been a pain to watch it, most of it is really boring and the characters tend to be annoying to see 'em play out.

All I wanted was to see Godzilla and King Kong fight it out and instead, it's like Godzilla 2014 "Part 2."

Also, I can't stand Julian Dennison. He feels like he belongs on those crappy Disney/Nickelodeon shows.

lol it has nothing to do with "objectionable content". gvk has way more mass appeal then tenet could ever hope to have. if both films had been released in 2020 with no pandemic it still would do better at the bo then tenet imo.

I agree. And that's not a slight to Tenet
