I “own” that I said something rude. I therefore apologized.

I’m not going to stand by something I regret just to stand by it. That’s just stubbornness.

Anyway, I’m done. Somebody else post something.

You felt the need to apologize because you got called out for it. How you feel about this transfer isn’t relevant, it’s your opinion period. The fact you question how others feel about the transfer is where it becomes an issue. It doesn’t do the movie or this thread any favors.

Film is the key word here.

I don't need a time machine to know which of these two screenshots is the accurate representation of a movie shot on 35mm:

Besides the improved detail, the grain also makes her look younger.

Me too - people really are sad nowadays on the internet - they obvs have too much time on their hands - all i see in cameron threads now is:

"DNR, T2 4K was a disaster - JC is not competent blah blah" - i dont like taylor swift or oppenheimer that much but i wouldnt rush to a forum to criticize them all day...
it seems the blu-ray critics like this disc(5 stars on here) but the majority in this thread dont - im still on the fence as ive only watched the first 30 mins - my only gripe was the lack of open matte but thats just MY preference...

The fact that a studio like Blue Underground can put out absolutely exceptional UHD releases that respect and adhere to the films' intended looks -- while James Cameron, who again I think is maybe one of the most important filmmakers to ever live -- gives a pass to the techniques used on a release like this one, despite all of the glaring oddness to some shots and scenes, is so mind boggling to me.
This is the same fellow who added selective HFR motion grading to Avatar and Titanic for their recent 3D re-releases, he's got a very particular 'vision' of what he wants his work to look like and doesn't much care about what anyone else thinks - with great filmmaking power comes less filmmaking responsibility it would seem, i.e. he's only out to please himself.

Sampled a few scenes last night and thought the transfer looked wonderful. Easy reference disc.

I have decided to purchase this UHD, and I will rip it to my PC.
Then, I am going to open Adobe Premier Pro, and reduce contrast by 8%. Reduce brightness by 7%. Color Saturation and Hue will be altered to a more 'blue' push, with less green. Change sharpness to -8%. Also, I am going to implement a film grain overlay.

Y'all are going to love it!

I think this UHD looks terrific. Does it look how it's "supposed" to look? Idk. I saw it a few times in the theater, but hell if I remember if the UHD is one degree Celsius off its teal color tone from when I saw it in the theater Or if the contrast was boosted 2%. For the people always claiming they've seen recent film prints and know the UHD is wrong - Was the film print you saw correct? How was it stored? Was any of it damaged, faded or otherwise altered over the last 25 years? Was their projector equipment setup exactly perfect to show James Cameron's 1:1 perfect vision that his eyes saw on his official editing equipment in 1997? Was your previous DVD or Blu-ray the true "correct" PQ?

All I know is there are a ton of releases that look awful and deserve to be shit on. I really don't think this is one of them. Nothing about this transfer distracts from the movie and the great picture quality that it has been given. The thing is, even if the people in this thread currently complaining were happy with this release, there'd be a dozen other people unhappy and complaining about something else. I don't think I have popped into any movie release thread in this forum where at least one person isn't calling a transfer trash.

This isn't the first Blu-ray release of Patton or Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition. The worst thing you could say about this transfer is it's a 4/5. Some people acting like this is a 1/5 which is asinine.

This actually does sound awesome
The film has slowly been graded to be more and more yellow over the years! I miss the blues and pinks. Anyway, a personal re-grade would be super.
Also, i cannot tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Nuance has been lost for me, over the last while so if you're joking - I've totally bought into it!

I am kidding, because I don't really want to buy the movie. But after I posted it, I got a little curious about how it would look if I did start slowly altering settings.
I haven't watched this transfer. Maybe some day I will, since my curiosity is piqued. Probably won't be tweaking video settings, though. If I did, it would just be a few scenes in 1-minute snippets, just to satiate my curiosity.
If I were to do the whole movie, it would literally be a scene-by-scene (actually, every camera angle and cut) process, and I would spend wayyyyy too much time on it to try and get it "right".
- Like, it would take me more than a week to do!

I posted that comment when I was reading the thread 10 pages back.

<Grabs the popcorn bag - oh darn, it's empty now! >

EDIT: Actually, thinking a little MORE about this... if "Aliens" turns out to be too sharp and 'denoised' for my tastes, it would be a fun personal project to edit the look of that movie. I have seen it over 400 times, so I know that I could sit through the number of needed viewings enough to tolerate the work involved on that one. Hm. Yeah... too bad I won't do that, though, because I mean, Big Brother would get upset and come at me, bro.
