Helps if you were a little more specific, as in a DTS 2.0 track, 4.0 track, 5.1 or 7.1 track. If it was a 2.0 track then I would use Dolby PLIIx Movie because the 2.0 track is most likely from the original Dolby Stereo track. If the tracks are ≥ 4 then you do not need additional decoding at all.

Dolby SU and DTS:X (Neural X) use different speaker patterns, on my setup I use the same 13 speakers. So I use the same delays and calibrate the SPL to be the same at the main listening position from each speaker pattern.

For level matching most any SPL meter will do, if more exacting readings are desired then have a look at the Galaxy CM-140 (here). If measurements via a PC are desired then I would use the MiniDSP UMIK-2 microphone (here).

I have a lot of those Old Movies in my Digital Collection, but have you seen Yellowstone, 1883, and now 1923 with Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren? These are great Series on Amazon Prime and Paramount+!

SURROUND SOUND FOR LESS THAN $5

I just reconfigured my bedroom system w/HDMI to [RCA connector] stereo [encoded surround sound] analog audio, I cannibalized a mini headphone Y adapter to extract the [Hafler/DynaQuad] difference signal [I'm using my old computer speakers for the surround channel].

I watched my UHD Blu-ray of Star Trek III recently, my Hafler/DynaQuad system provided a good surround sound effect.

Yes I agree, I have been watching that too. Sylvester Stallone plays a very good Mafia Guy!

My copy of Terrifier 2 on 4K disc arrived today. I still have to watch part 1, though.

Barreled through Barbarians S2 on Netflix and that was great. I hope S3 comes out soon.

Thanks, good to know. It's actually a blind buy, but it's Luc Besson and Scarlett Johanson so I'm confident it will at least be watchable. I've heard good things.

Curious if you did an A/B with the same scene with both Dolby DSU and Neural X?

It was a stereo track, but not Dolby Stereo, not a movie. The Superman episode Identity Crisis. Pretty sure the show was mixed for surround matrixing. I only upmix two-channel surround (or try to, since it's difficult to tell sometimes). The gunfire in the police chase sounded weirdly quieted in Dolby Surround and better in DTS Neural:X, but I can't replicate it, so either I had the volume too low (It's early in the episode.) or it was a glitch. No, that neighbor volume mode is turned off. I haven't been with Denon long.

It's always nice to see more UHD players, but what we need are more affordable UHD players priced at or under $500 if we want to see more people adopt this format. These four figure UHD players will scare off most newcomers.

I really liked my Panasonic UB420 mostly because unlike my Sony X700 it actually worked.

The UB9000 I replaced it with is great but I agree most folks don't want to invest in a high quality player.

It used to be easy, just go with the Sony but the X700 and X800 threw that plan out the window.

Terrifier 2 is way better than the first one so don’t be put off if you don’t enjoy the first.

Glad I didn't open the Columbo DVD set. The whole series is in HD already and for some reason only Japan got a boxset.

Best Buy shows 6 models of UHD Blu-ray players, Amazon shows 9 models for < $500 so folks have several to chose from in that category. The target market for the Magnetar is folks that buy from custom installers, high-end specialty stores like Audio Advice in NC, Atlanta Home Theater in GA, AV Science Sales, Value Electronics in NY, A&B TV in TX to name a few.

Somehow I have the feeling the new Samsung 98" TV will not be at your local Walmart anytime soon!

I am well aware of the selection in the sub $500 range and pretty much everyone of those models is undesirable for a variety of reasons from flimsy build quality to manually having to switch Dolby Vision off and on- and even no Dolby Vision support at all- to difficulty playing discs (their primary purpose after all). There is not one player in that price range that I would want to own even as a back-up player.

We have not seen any new players introduced in this sub $500 price range. The closest one was the Tascam at $599 and as I recall your experience with it was a bad one, too. We need decent reliable players that are affordably priced to grow this format; players costing over $1000 are a non-starter for most people. Also, most of those expensive "premium" players leave a LOT to be desired, too. For me personally, there is not a single player in production that I feel comfortable buying- although I am withholding judgment on the new Magnetars until I read some reviews.

Did nobody get my Peanuts joke or did it just fly as well as a lead balloon? Oh well, thankfully I don't rely upon my stand-up routine for my income.

I think I may have spotted it.
As a very young child, I was the proud owner of a Charlie Brown picture dictionary, and I'm sure Linus did feature in it.
