Having a negative (constructive) opinion is fine. Coming in to the thread every now and again and lashing out like a little kid that just had his GI Joe taken from him is not.

That's not the guy who compared Prometheus to The Phantom Menace, was it?

I'm not sure, but I know he was one of us who was very excited, and he returned here very disappointed. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the emotional lash-outs and ignorant generalizations that are annoying (and against forum rules–no thread crapping allowed).

No hard feelings.
My last comment as this is getting off the topic of this thread. If you feel I insulted you, then I do apologize.
I certainly have no hate for any one or any generation and intended none. As I said ("I feel sorry for", not "I hate").
My comments (to be clear) were aimed at the ones calling "Prometheus" a piece of crap. And yes, I feel sorry for them.

People are entitled to their opinions, and so long as they share them in a reasonable manner, are entitled to post them here as members of this forum.

Films are subjective. Each individual has to decide for themselves if they liked one or not. There will never be a movie that gets 100% praise.

For those that disliked this film, I do indeed feel like they are missing out on the bigger picture, but I still respect their opinion. Most of the problems we have all shared here are legit. For some of us, this means the movie was a disaster. For others (like me) they are trivial things that ultimately didn't damage my enjoyment enough to call the movie a failure.

I think Prometheus is a strong 8/10, and I'm pretty sure that I am going to continue to think so as time progresses. I've already seen it twice, and it still keeps coming back to me in my head–both good signs that I will continue to like it.

Fair enough. I honestly never felt personally insulted. As I said before, no hard feelings.

Good story, a prequel that actually works for a change, staggering alien landscapes, and Ridley Scott, one of the masters directing, Charlize and Noomi in the same picture.
Hav'nt enjoyed a movie this much for a while.
Sorry for those who must have constant, fast-cut action requiring no thought.
Ah crap, I must be an abomination. I love video games (been playing them since before the 2600) as well as all kinds of movies. I even like slow movies.

Am I doomed to hate this movie

But she has my sympathies. [smiles]

.
Several months ago, I was convinced that the alien ship we saw in the Prometheus trailers crashed on
[Show spoiler]LV-426. When I saw the graphic for LV-223, I grudgingly gave up on that idea. It is very easy to fall into that trap and try to shoehorn elements from Prometheus into Alien. Bad idea.

The Deacon isn't the xenomorph from Alien. It had a different lifecycle. It looked nothing like a chestburster. It was born fully developed (apparently).
It is physically different in appearance. (no tail). And, at the end, it is leaving the Luxury Escape Pod with a purpose. To go where? The possibilities are endless. I'll bet the sequel deals a bit more with activity on LV-223. A lot could happen between David saying he could get Shaw to the Engineer homeworld and the shot of the second alien Juggernaut heading for where? Directly to the homeworld or perhaps a sidetrip to a Weyland Corp depot to get David reassembled?

Lets say Vickers survives and makes her way to the still functioning luxury pod after the Deacon leaves. She has oxygen, stores, and a means of deep space communications. Who does she contact? The Prometheus is not the only FTL ship in the Weyland Fleet. We also have the Heliades and probably others. Where is it? Less than two years away? Remember, Vickers is the top Corporate Exec at Weyland. She can move a lot off assets around quickly...if she did survive.

Its up to Ridley and the writers. The possibilities are endless and exciting.

Why don't you use spoiler tags? The large red SPOILERS isn't very effective.

The "Deacon" looks like a queen. That's what I assumed it was. I don't see any need to think about it anymore unless they expand upon it in a sequel.

I think some people have the wrong idea. My logic with Prometheus is that it offered up enough ideas for us to piece together what happened on LV-426.

Clcik on the arrow at the bottom of this EW article if you want to hear an intelligent but unpretentious dialogue about Prometheus. You'll need some time to get through it since it is about 1 hr long. http://popwatch.ew.com/2012/06/15/pr...inment-geekly/

The Deacon compared to the Alien, compared to Aliens isn't all that shocking. Just look at Humans compared to Monkeys compared to Apes.. versus many other animals and yet the majority of DNA is the same. Heck, even within humans there is a large amount of variety.

The universe of Alien/Prometheus can and should have a large variety of creatures.. We should barely have been exposed to tiniest fraction the possibilities at this point.

When it's second jaw protrudes, that certainly makes me think of the queen. It doesn't really matter in the end. We know that the appearance of this creature is supposed to connect the dots for the audience that the xenomorph is not an actual alien species but a genetic mistake through a series of chance cross-breeding.

Yes, but people don't handel change very well. If it isn't familiar, people cry foul. That's why some
[Show spoiler]hate the look (and even the existance) of the deacon and the change in the life-cycle. Rather than consider other possibilities, some people just assumed that the movie makers ****ed up.

It was very clear to me on my first viewing that the deacon isn't the traditional xenomorph at all. It's shaped wrong, has bone teeth (rather than metallic or translucent), violates the life-cycle, has skin, an unconvential inner mouth, and does not look like the xeno mural. I pieced most of that together while I was watching it the first time.

I still think it is the very first queen and was created by mistake from the chain of events that David started by poisoning Halloway.

The xenomorphs
[Show spoiler]existed before the deacon. The mural establishes that.

Depending on the sequel (and, yes, there is NO DOUBT that there WILL be one IMHO), it could even go up....some of these concerns, distractions, failures....whatever you want to call them ....may be part of a larger story.

If that's true, why do the Engineers appear to worship it? Remember the mural above the altar?

The original Alien xenomorph's jaw protruded as well.
