P.S. For any interested parties, Bandai recently re-released a number of their classic Godzilla vinyl figures. They're $12.99 apiece, exclusively at Walmart. You can get the 1954, 1968, and 2000 versions of Godzilla, as well as Mothra, King Caesar, Mechagodzilla, and King Ghidorah. |

I went back to see this again, this time in 'Screen X' (they project the image on the side walls with extra projectors in selected scenes (felt like about 40-50% of the movie) to make it feel more immersive and huge). It was the first thing I'd seen in the format and I wasn't expecting it to be so good honestly, but it was, and this film was perfectly suited to it. Some of the bigger scenes were mind-blowing taking up most of my peripheral vision. I've seen it described as 'sideways IMAX' which seems fair, but the closest thing I would compare it to was wearing a VR headset, only without the feeling of something attached to your head. I'd probably not see a film in this format first time round, but for the right kind of films on repeated viewings I think I'll be doing it again.
Pretty much any time the titans were the focus of the movie it switched to the extra wide view, it worked really well. Oh, and more on-topic I guess, I enjoyed the film even more this time. I'd still not say it was quite a 5-star film overall for me, but as a cinematic experience it was definitely a very memorable one, I had a great time with it. |
