I'll be curious to see what the future holds for U.S. prices in gaming considering the new political reality. We're now in a position where tariffs of 10% to as high as 35% on foreign products have been seriously threatened, including video games, which are pretty much entirely made overseas by all three major companies (even Microsoft), becoming targets of very large price spikes for consumers. The effect is probably lessened by the industry being somewhat digitized but the hardware is always physical, as is much of the software.

Oh it'll change for sure. I'm trying to find the article from earlier in the week I read. It was at Ars, Polygon or Eurogamer.

There are taxes in the US too, so in Japan it's still cheaper. I'm paying a total of $325.86 because of $25.87 in tax.

Change the way you play with different play modes
Nintendo Switch can be played while connected to the TV as a home console, but actually there are three different play modes you can choose from, depending on the situation.

TV mode
Place the Nintendo Switch console into the Nintendo Switch dock, hook up the HDMI cable to your TV, and you’re ready to play games on the TV.

Tabletop mode
Prop up the stand attached to the back of the Nintendo Switch console to play games on its built-in screen. This mode is useful when you’re on the go without a TV, and two people can even play together by taking control of a Joy-Con each.

Handheld mode
Attach the Joy-Con to the Nintendo Switch console and play it on the go. Play wherever you like, however you want, using the 6.2 inch screen.

HOME Menu
From the HOME Menu, you can start games and select game settings. In addition to managing friends and user accounts, you can also change your system settings here.

Main features of the HOME Menu

News
The latest news about games will be delivered to your Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo eShop
You can purchase digital versions of games and downloadable content by accessing Nintendo eShop. You can also get more information about games by viewing commercials and promotional videos here.

Album
Here you can view screenshots you’ve captured during gameplay. You can freely add text to the images and effortlessly post them to social networks.

Capture screenshots in an instant

By pressing the Capture Button on Joy-Con (L), you can capture screenshots during gameplay instantly.*
Please note: you will also be able to capture video footage after a future update.

*Some games may have sections where it is not possible to capture screenshots.

Multiplayer

Link your consoles together

By connecting with other Nintendo Switch consoles, you can enjoy local multiplayer.

Connect via the internet

Go online and play with far-off friends and users all over the world via Wi-Fi. With a LAN adapter, you can connect to the internet via a wired connection when playing in TV mode.

amiibo functionality

By tapping an amiibo (sold separately) to the NFC touchpoint on Joy-Con (R), you can read or write data to the amiibo.

Is there some reason why they refuse to give the CPU speed? "NVIDIA customized Tegra processor" doesn't tell us much.

Isn't it obvious? Because it does not compare favorably against the competing consoles with much faster CPU's.

Well, that worked out...

I happened to check my email, and I had some kind of promotional $10 savings certificate/code from Best Buy (kind of like a gift card, but promotional - different from the actual rewards certificates) that can be used in store or online, and expired tomorrow. The email said "Last Chance" to use it. I don't recall getting a prior notification, but maybe I missed it.

Anyway, I had that to use as well as enough point to issue a $5 rewards certificate. And the Switch Pro controller is finally up for preorder, so I placed an order for one, and applied both the promotional code and rewards certificate to it, bringing it down to a more reasonable price akin to other console controllers.

I just cancelled my order for a power station that charges 4 Joy-Cons at once, a 20 hour battery life seems more than enough to warrant the inconvenience of having to attach the Joy-Cons to the Switch to charge. The extra $30 that I just saved can be put toward another game.
