I don't think it's a "majority" in this thread or anywhere close. You're probably seeing a larger majority of posts, but they seem to be the same people who are going to repeatedly litigate their case as to why this is terrible. Over. And over. And over again. If they stop, it might seem like this one is "getting away with it".

If only Titanic looked liked that.

These screenshots comparing the 35MM "raw" scan to the UHD keep dropping and it's a game of "spot the differences" each time. I finally figured it out on a couple after getting them full screen, but I failed on the last ones I saw. It's like those screenshots are supposed to be the mic drop. Apparently they are a vision test and those of us who are fine with this disc are failing.

James Cameron only made this film to make young girls cry, didn't anyone watch Entourage.

I don't know about willfully... some just need to be a little clearer perhaps. It looks stunning but not how it should look. well, hot damn! you learn something new every day.

I miss the days when the very mention of DNR or “grain management” would engage a cacophony of autistic screeching, instead of this “well they use it in everything” complacency bullshit we have now.

I would argue there is more complaining about those pointing out flaws than actual people pointing out flaws in the release. However, this is an enthusiast forum with varied (strong) opinions, what else should anyone expect? Recent angry and obtuse name-calling from the likes of so-called movie buffs aside, debates over minutiae are what forums like this are all about. Did we suddenly forget that?

Flaws being pointed out does not mean the release is "terrible," nobody can enjoy it, or the world has ended. It simply means there are, in fact, flaws. If you would step back and dispassionately read what you call repeated litigation, the majority on here who find issue with it have made it very clear that it's ok to still like the release, and they even like many elements about it, it's just not perfect like a movie of this caliber was expected to be, or like it should be. Many are (rightly) upset about it, and this place is exactly where that feeling should be voiced.

Chill out, debate about it, but don't get upset or demand this forum stop being a forum.

Rock on.

I frequent another physical media forum (not sure what this forum's stance is on cross promotion when it concerns other sites, so I'm going to refrain from naming...) where there's still plenty of discourse and, yes, even nitpicking. But people are still capable of having pleasant, healthy discussions, and they're more than willing to acknowledging the good just as much as they are the bad. The conversations feel genuine, mature, and friendly, no matter the disagreement. It feels like they love what they're discussing. It's a shame that community isn't nearly as active as this one is.

How many threads here, including this one, have snowballed into endless arguments where people even resort to petty name calling, judging a performer (usually an actress, let's be honest) by their physical looks (which shouldn't have anything to do with discussing a transfer), making fun of both casual and professional reviewers for having a different opinion, and, yes, outright claiming to see something unusual and then standing firm by that, despite almost everyone else saying the opposite. There's rarely a feeling that people are having fun with their discussions. Instead, people often resort to petty attacks and endless condescending sarcasm, which rarely contributes anything of value to the discussion at hand.

There's a difference between healthy disagreement and nitpicking, and toxic discussion, and an unfortunate number of users here often fall into the latter category. Again, this isn't something that only a few odd members are picking up on. The amount of legacy users who are also expressing discontent at this has been steadily rising, and for good reason.
I get what you're saying. The personal attacks and the toxic discussion are not cool at all. My issue is with people who like "just enjoy it you nitpickers!" There are people who take it personally when people point out flaws in things they like and can't wait to tell everyone how much it upsets them. These forums are the most appropriate place imaginable for dissecting the flaws in these transfers and I've learned so much from the discussions, even when I personally disagree with the assertions that the movies are unwatchable.

I can recognize why it's disappointing that Titanic was tinkered with to an unnatural degree (and even agree that it shouldn't have been done on a film preservation level) while also being satisfied and blown away by the picture quality when I sit down and watch it for myself.

It's over 50 minutes longer than T2, and far more luxurious. Your forum-goers are far too difficult to impress, Jbab.

Looks like chowder head is stuck between a rock and a hard place. He is now smart enough to see which way the wind blows on forums before he posts his thoughts on his videos. But when he doesn't want to end the parade of free stuff from studios either, just give em what they want, and tell fans the image looks fantastic.
What exactly do you mean by that? In what way does he see which way the wind blows in this video?

But this film looks great to me. It is not remotely close to the "problematic" piece that so many are claiming it to be.

I also think that people need to step outside of themselves a bit and accept an unchangeable reality: At the end of the day, the director's vision is what counts the most in what we get or don't get on a home copy of a film. And when a film is remastered on a literal frame-by-frame basis by the actual director of the film...who is also then signing off on the final product...then the discussion really needs to move away from "this isn't how it was supposed to look." Because frankly, we're clearly wrong if we think that - It's what the director voluntarily chose for their vision.
this is what I was trying to express, thank you for hitting the nail on the head

people on here saying this isnt what the film was supposed to look like as if they know better than James Cameron is absurd to me but to each their own

Not the most popular opinion here, but I like seeing how directors might change the visual style of their films. It's like living art. I've personally never been one to believe that film should be a static medium and only look and sound the way it did in the year it was released. I think Audio and Visual is absolutely ok to change. I only draw the line when the actual content of the film is altered. To me thats the biggest and only issue. Especially when it's not labeled as a directors cut or alternate cut.

I think the shitty interactions are what needs to be adjusted. Not the expressing of opinion. I certainly don't want a circlejerk or a trash fire thread.

But I think people need to not take each other's opinions so personally. If I sit down down and have my opinion about the image, I don't really care if someone doesn't feel the same way. The disc is printed, it is what it is unless there's another release.

I dunno. It makes the threads an absolute slog and I see not a lot of debate but just a bunch of one way shouting by people who aren't going to budge on their opinion. It's a mix of passive aggressive comments about each other's opinions and actually replying to people to tell them they are wrong or awful for having their opinion.

If someone doesn't like a disc that you do, it doesn't matter.

If someone likes a disc that you don't, it also doesn't matter.

I highly doubt anyone who makes decisions about these things is going to be influenced by what amounts to a virtual food fight in these threads. So being an ******* to someone here isn't making a difference, except making this forum a miserable place.

I watched Titanic last night..one sitting..lol..on my Vava 4K UST Projector and 100 inch ALR screen. I will admit to the movie looking quite sharpened and Vivid and had a soap opera effect at times, unusual for my projector. I had recently just scanned a few scenes for a few minutes but this time I saw it all. I had two choices, adjustments to the projector or the video output of the OPPO 203. I went with the projector. I reduced saturation a bit and definition as well and then it looked just right. Now I sat back and wow it did look great from beginning to end. I no longer have surround sound..too bad.. my last time viewing the blu rau was so spectacular when I had my system. Still I was impressed with the detail of sound and the dialogue was crystal clear using the built in Harmon Khardon speakers. This is definitely a big screen movie so others with projectors are going to be very happy. Do some scenes of the ship itself look fake, yeah well they always did , perhaps less so when I saw it in it's initial release in theaters, but that's what HD does and 4K even more. All in all it was a great night at the movies watching Titanic. Leo and Kate were so good and seem to have such chemistry on the screen. They made time go by quickly and this long movie seemed so much shorter thanks to them.

I can highly recommend Titanic, but don't be stubborn, adjust your sets and projectors accordingly to tweak the disc...then this will be quite a presentation. I plan to watch it on my LG OLED E8 later this week and yes it has DV and yes I will adjust it ..lol..this disc and this movie deserves a little work on my part. 1/2
