Ok cool. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something particular about my set up. It's just so strange that it's only that one disc.

That issue has been there on every branched release since the Complete Dossier DVD.

If you mean the incorrect line in the original theatrical cut, as Alister mentioned, it's been that way on every disc that uses branching since The Complete Dossier DVD.

However, it's correct in the "Original 1979 Mix" track on the accompanying Theatrical/Redux standard BD (the one with the terrible picture encoding).

There are a few audio pops in the Atmos track during the theatrical (which is the only audio track on the Theatrical/Redux UHD besides the commentary), but some people hear them and others don't. I haven't heard any in the Redux cut.

As far as I know, these haven't been fixed. Personally, I hung on to the US set for the Redux/Final cuts, Hearts of Darkness, and special features disc. Then I got the 2-disc Italian Eagle UHD for an *almost perfect presentation of the original theatrical cut.

*I had another listen to the various audio tracks, and I think the 5.1 on the Italian UHD is either a downmix of the Atmos or a specially engineered 5.1 version of it. But it's so similar to the "original" track on the US Theatrical/Redux BD, that the only really noticeable difference I found is near the end (at about 2:19:45) when Willard is emerging
[Show spoiler]having just delivered the fatal blow to Kurtz, and just before "The horror... the horror"
. The discordant synth hits are panned a little harder left in the original track than in the Eagle 5.1 (which sounds more like the Atmos in that section). But even that may be a side effect of different compression codecs.

Even though Murch has revisited the soundtrack for this film a few times over the years, he's never been hugely revisionist with it. It's mostly just been refined and sweetened here and there.

Anyway, hope all that helps!

Just to clarify for anyone interested, there are two separate, 2-disc Italian Eagle 4K releases- the Theatrical Cut and the Final Cut.

The Theatrical version is the one with the black cover featuring Marlon Brando.

The Final Cut has Charlie Sheen on the cover.

(In fact there is also 3rd release, a steelbook release of the Final Cut).

The audio pops are not because of the disc. Any player with a Mediatek processor has compatibility issues with Dolby audio tracks and branching points on a branched disc.

Blame Mediatek as they never fixed the problem.

Why does every US Blu-Ray release of these movies have such low bitrates?

Because they're branching two versions of the movie on there, one of which is 197 minutes long and even without any branching you wouldn't get much more than 30 Mb/s for the whole A/V transport stream.

Though the hilarious thing is that the bitrate on the old US Blu is even lower than the new Blu, yet the new Blu is an absolute shitshow of an encode while the old one still holds up.

Hey! My copy of Apocalypse Now 4k had an extra digital code card enclosed.

I'm including it here to jumpstart my karma. First come, first served!

Just to update; they offered me a replacement disc but also said that the problem is with the PS5 (which was manufactured after the discs) and not their product. As you may guess; the replacement disc has the same problems. Beyond that, they did thrown in the John Wick collection for my troubles...

What version of Apocalypse Now should I watch? I have the 4K Blu-ray that comes with the original cut, Redux, and the Final Cut. Anyone know which to watch as a first time viewing?

For a first time viewing... the THEATRICAL CUT reigns supreme. Sure, the other two have "more" footage, but that doesn't mean they make A.N. a better movie. The pacing is practically perfect in the original cut. The plantation sequence in the other two cuts feel like it's out of a totally different movie and I can see why Coppola deleted it in the first place.

I'm jealous.
My mom took me to this and we were both blown away.
Hopefully you also like it.
