Watched The English via Prime Video, liked it for the most part. Watched 1883 via BD Netflix rental, same for Yellowstone and will do for 1923.

Lonesome Dove still remains my top choice for a western TV series.

Sweetwater is a good one. What's cool about that one is that they used some of the leftover sets from Appaloosa for Sweetwater.

The English was great. Out here it's on PRIME only, though.

Since Netflix is releasing the second season of the Vikings spin-off in a couple of weeks I decided to start a binge from the very beginning since I never actually watched the original series. I binged the first two seasons already via PRIME and it's a great show. On PRIME it's in HD/5.1 and on HULU it's in HD/2.0, so PRIME wins. They have all 9 seasons there and Netflix has the first season of the spin-off there.

Yes, I bought the UK Blu-ray. Was a blind buy.
Only watched one episode so far but I'm not regretting it.
Great acting, cinematography and writing.

No I haven't mate. In fact to be totally honest with you, I haven't watched any western TV series, nor do I have any of them on disc. Even my DVD/Blu-Ray western movie collection is comprised of mainly pre-1980's films, although I'm sure there are some more recent gems out there that I have yet to discover.

I have been on the fence with that show for a few years, but grabbed the series on BD when it dropped to half off. Might start that one next.

I would checkout Appaloosa, Open Range and Old Henry. I like Sweetwater but I can see where some would give it a pass.

Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery and NBCUniversal are all expected to sell or combine with other media entities in the next few years...

Thank you very much for your suggestions Wendell, I appreciate it.

Just read a little on the IMDb website and Appaloosa sounds like a great movie. I've always liked Ed Harris too which in itself makes this film all the more appealing to me. I'll certainly take a look at the other films as well that you mentioned, so my thanks again for those.

Have you guys seen Bone Tomahawk? Own that one, really enjoyed it. Kurt Russel is really suited to modern westerns.

One of the most brutal death scenes ever in Bone Tomahawk. I really liked the movie and have suggested it to others at work, who then shake their heads the next day saying they had nightmares that night.

Impressive that it is Zahler’s first movie that he made. His 2nd, Brawl in Cell Block 99 with Vince Vaughan was good, but not quite as good as BT.

I've been meaning to revisit this title for quite some time.

I'm not generally a fan of westerns. My only memory of BONE TOMAHAWK was that I enjoyed the story, but hated the "digital" look of the movie, which probably stuck out more by virtue of the fact that Kurt Russell was rocking the same look as he did in the beautifully shot on film H8FUL EIGHT.

If memory serves, there's a longish sequence at a cave opening that looks like it was shot on an iphone that I took exception to...anyways, it's time for a revisit...

Nothing wrong with IPhones, it worked for Unsane and Tangerine!

The Hateful 8, this and The Covenant were my top films of that year.

Yeah...admittedly, I have this weird thing about delineating between things meant to be watched in a "cinema" setting and things meant to be watched on a "TV".... and that extends to how things look..

There's a fun thread on here that someone recently necro bumped asking people to share their experiences of switching from a TV to a projector. In sharing my story, I realized that I have not watched a movie on a TV since I got my first SONY 3 gun CRT 25 years ago. There's this unwritten rule in my house that no one is allowed to watch a "movie" in the living room (cheapie 65" non HDR 4K tv) and that the HT is reserved for more "theatrical" presentations and sports.

I realize that almost everything these days is shot digitally, and have been very happy that most movie makers seem to be using the advancements in the technology to give their creations textures suitable to the story.

TANGERENE is an example of a movie, shot on an iphone, where the creator used the available tech (filters?) to achieve a certain look that enhanced the narrative of the movie. Soderbergh is no slouch in knowing how to make his vision standout in it's visual presentation. UNSANE is very deliberately meant to look the way it does.

I actually shut off last year's best picture winner 10 minutes into my first viewing as I absolutely hated the lazy, made for TV, iphone look of it. Thankfully, the wife really wanted to see it, so I was eventually able to catch it upon giving it a second chance.

As I said, I remember enjoying BONE TOMAHAWK upon my initial viewing and I definitely watched it in it's entirety. I do also remember being taken out of the movie by the scene I mentioned. I'll give it another go soon and see if my initial feelings about it hold.

Yeah, a big plus with Tangerine was being able to weave in and out of the characters with ease and to give it an even more personal feel.

I don’t really care how it’s shot as long as it’s a good film. I bought Unsane and it looks fine projected, although naturally it isn’t going to look as good as the normal methods.

iPhone shot films are only going to get better also.

If it offers a cheaper route to making features for newbies, I’m all for it.

I have but don't remember it. Don't have it in my databases so will re-watch. Could be it used a lot of handheld camera work. 3:10 To Yuma has too much but I deal with it because I like Russell Crowe.

Owned Heavens Gate on LD but its PFRV (potential for repeat viewing) diminished to zero. I do like Kristofferson and have several movies with him including:
