$255,

I am planning to renew my membership, but if Barnes & Noble gets rid of their media sections or Criterion sales, forget it.

By the way, got my Criterion shipment of Rushmore and 12 Angry Men, but still waiting for my 3 Colors and Rules from B&N....
I just took a walk around my school, and as I was back in the English wing, I heard a film being played in a classroom. I took a few more steps away as I passed the room, and the unmistakable sound of the mine cars screeching around the mineshaft from the Temple of Doom became very clear.

I entered the classroom and stayed put

It was funny hearing these kids, who were not yet born when Temple was released, get just as excited as they would have been had they been watching something similar made today.

Maybe it was fate, maybe action films will forever be part of what I love about film in general. Maybe I was meant to wallk in that room and re-live a little part of my youth. Maybe I was meant to understand why many (certainly not all) kids in this generation really gravitate towards the big budget action films, without glancing at the Criterions and the MOCs of the world.

I still would rather see a B&W film though...

There is always some exception but in general, I will see them once and I don't have much interest in seeing them again. Over the last 4 or 5 years I have cut down a lot of new releases buy. I rent them or catch them on the movie network and very few I wish to buy.
Pat...I picked up my copy of the Shimizu Eclipse set. I hope to watch the first film Thursday morning. I'll give you some feedback after I've watched it and had my coffee.

A Criterion BD is just like Pizza, even when it's bad it's still pretty good. With that said I agree 100% on using your $$$$ to buy Criterion's and other 'forever BD's" over most mainstream fluff.

You can never go wrong with a B&W classic. Strangely your example reminds me of going to the movies to see Temple with my buddies. Almost 30 years since it came out. Funny how time flies when that era pretty much started the 'action blockbuster'. Now, every time you open the entertainment section of the paper, there are 5 or so of them in the listings at a time. The genre has sort of evolved into an almost 'daily' happening. Not many of those movies have any real imagination, as they mostly seem to be reboots of some earlier successful film.

I have a question about the Chaplin Films Criterion has rights to. According to the Janus poster there are 15 of his films yet to be released. In over a year only 2 have been released thus far. I was wondering if Criterion commonly releases back to back months of one director? Or 3+ per year, etc? I could see a box set for some of the early/late films, but many remaining would certainly be marketably on their own as Park Circus has proved. Is there any good examples of Criterion sitting on film rights for years and years with minimal (1-2 per year) release schedule?

I admit to having no exposure to Jean Vigo previously..... and found À propos de Nice quite interesting. I really would find it hard for someone to convince me that Taris is really "important" in any way, whether it be symbolically, cinematographically speaking (I make up words ) and certainly not due to some great story it was attempting to convey.

I could say it's necessary for me to re-watch it with the commentary, but does anyone else pick up any great level of meaning or importance in this piece that I'm missing?

Yes, around $900. It's the bulk of my spendings though. Bought 151 titles this year so far and spent around $1,500 total.

Just wondering what you guys consider to be a "Box set"? Is it fair to say at least two films together constitutes a box set?

I ask because I'm constructing a few more year end polls.

Although, I wonder if calling them "sets" might be the way to go. It would include stuff like Vigo, Fanny and Alexander, Three Colors, etc.

You will when you watch L'atalante. Somethings are just done so you can experiment with and use later (hence why I said watch L'atalante and you will see why Taris was "important").

Ew, why are people talking about Super 8. That is digital effects nonsense, copies Spielberg with none of the craft or heart.

So I made out with probably 15 titles on this B & N sale. Fanny & Alexander I think is the best title criterion has release so far on blu-ray.

Also I'd advise people who like Criterion to get a region B player, I am digging a bunch of titles from masters of cinema, BFI which are as good as criterions releases.

I have a bit of a stupid question here.

When I was entering my Criterion DVDs into the tracker here, I found that spine #439 Trafic was not in the database. Who do we contact to add that information?

Also, a couple of them are missing the artwork, is there something we can do to do fix it?

Thanks for any help.
