Thanks for any help.
The "collection" tracker on this site is for listing your Blu-rays. DVDs aren't in the database.

Default Replacement disc for Three Colors: White

Turns out that audio problem with White has been acknowledged by Criterion. Read posts #66 & #67 in the Three Colors thread.

I should also point out to you, that all non-low powered T.V. broadcasts will be set to switch to Digital in June of 2009, so get your coupon for a converter box while you can.

All of my other Criterion DVDs were in the DVD database. The system seems to have two separate collection trackers. If you click on "DVD" above the main search bar, and do a search for a movie, it will show you the DVD versions as opposed to the BD releases.

On the home page, at the right of the screen, I see two collections. One is my BDs, the other is my DVDs. Both collection trackers seem to work the same as well.

Maybe the DVD tracker just never gets updated?

My OCD just eats away at me since one is missing and two others are missing artwork info.

You can actually add the titles yourself. Look at this link for instructions:

Thank you for the link and info!

Oddly enough, I go there to create an entry and someone has beat me to it.

I swear that wasn't there last night...

I did, however, submit the cover art for the "Wrong Men & Notorious Women" box set, and "Quai des Orfèvres". Hopefully they get approved ok and it helps to keep everyone's collections looking nice and uniform.

Now we only need confirmation if "Carlos" is indeed faulty as well.

This is how I added a few missing DVDs to the database. Eclipse 13: Mizoguchi's Fallen Women was not there, so I used the instructions in the thread to enter it. Wait until the next day, then go check and you should see it in the database after one of the moderators - or one of his/her minions - approves it (obviously not Beta Man).

You guys know that there are new movies that aren't comic book based, special-effects showcases right? A lot of people are claiming that they like older movies and citing Green Lantern, X-Men, and Super 8 as the reasons. What about The Social Network, The Tree of Life, and Attack the Block?

Got a reply from Lee Kline today.

Hi Justin,

Jon Mulvaney forwarded me your note, as I oversaw the new video master for Thin Red Line that was used for the BluRay release.

I have to say, you have a very good eye. I looked at the spot and it took me a few plays before I saw the artifact you mentioned. Upon tracing it back, it looks as though it's on our original HD master, which was created from the 4k files. Blacks are very dense here, and the picture is slightly "crushed" which causes that problem. Toll and Malick really straddled the line between details in the black and a dark picture, which in turned, caused the artifact. It's not a video compression problem, although it's possible that the compression might emphasize the artifact of the dense blacks.

I'd be happy to replace the disc with something else if you'd like. Just let me know.

Best regards,

Lee Kline
Still seems strange that it isn't on the UK/FR BD but is on the Criterion BD but oh well.

Sweet man.

I've bought 97 Blu-rays and I am at $1,226 (rounded up) total year to date.

21% of the total cost is from Criterions.

I could see this "freedom" resulting in alot of mis-information, though I guess it doesn't really matter for much of anything than to users on here wanting to catalogue their titles.

I already noticed somebody changed "Complete Jean Vigo" to count as 4 movies in the database. It makes sense to perhaps count 2 of them as full feature films(even though one is only 40 minutes long). but the other 2 "movies" being counted consist of an 8 minute documentary and a 20 minute tourist video. Kind of ridiculous to count those as full movies. On the blu-ray menu each of the 4 gets their own heading on the top level of the heirarchy, however in reality those should really be considered "extras" IMO - certainly on this site the set shouldn't count as 4x movies.

I ask because I'm constructing a few more year end polls.

Although, I wonder if calling them "sets" might be the way to go. It would include stuff like Vigo, Fanny and Alexander, Three Colors, etc.
1st off, it has to come in a "box". So we can rule out Vigo since that is just 1 disc in a single blu-ray case To me a box-set usually requires 3 or more full length films (it could be anywhere from 3 up to an infinite number for the really huge 100+ film collector sets). Usually the films could easily be standalone release, but are bundled together for marketing purposes or completionists. i.e. Jurassic Park Trilogy, Star Wars Complete Saga or Trilogies, Back to the Future Trilogy, etc... for Criterion it would be items like Eclipse Sets, the BBS America Lost and Found Set, the huge Janus Archive set... etc.

So out of the 3 you mention:

-Vigo? No. Even if it's "complete", not enough content to constitute it being a box set.
-Fanny and Alexander? Again no. It's just 2 cuts of 1 film.
-Three Colors? Absolutely. 3 films. 3 separate cases in a box = box set.

Some of you may be aware of this... but yesterday I came across a tip on one of these forums about playing region-B discs on region-A-locked players. Well, I'm in region-B (Australia) and forked out considerable money to make my Panasonic player region-free, so that i could watch Criterion bluray's.

The tip was to put the 'incompatible' disc in the player and wait for the onscreen message that says you can't play that disc on this player - then press"Stop" and then hit the menu button.

It worked for me on the Panasonic. I can manually switch the player to region A or B via a remote keypress, and when I do so, it will only play one region. So I set it to region-A and popped in my MoC region-B-locked copy of Metropolis. I got the warning that the disc was not playable, hit "Stop" then "Top Menu" and lo and behold, the disc played, taking me to the main menu!

I then switched the machine to region-B mode, and popped in a Criterion bluray. Same routine, and it played!

I also have a Sony bluray player, locked to region-B. I couldn't get this one to play the Criterion blurays using the same method.

Good luck folks...
