Watched Rushmore tonight. I had actually never seen it. Loved it! Awesome movie. Amazing picture and sound. Really enjoyed the Charlie Rose interview. I paid 28 bucks on Amazon because I did not want to wait 6 months for another half off sale.

Joe Dalek, well put.
![]() This is an issue that it's so minimal that I don't even bother to discuss it. One thing is going against the OAR, another is missing an inch of the picture that goes unnoticed while watching the movie. I'm with Criterion here. The pros are greater than the only con. |

So at this point after reading about Antichrist, I am not sure I want to see it, I may yet but right now it's looking more and more like I probably won't be. To complete the example, In The Realm Of The Senses, I saw in my 20's back in the 80's and I actually own it on DVD and enjoy it. I did not make the upgrade to Blu-ray like the others, maybe I will at one point. |

I really think you are missing out on Antichrist. I wouldn't say the same about Salò. |

Even though I know the post wasn't directed towards me -- I will respond anyways!
![]() I actually didn't care about the cropping much. Theatrically, movies aren't shown in the exact same ratio because projectionists are different and so forth. However, if there was a master transferred from an undamaged source with more of the frame intact, I would rather they use that, ideally. My main problem with the Criterion Harakiri is that it looks like crud. The blacks are crushed and whites are blown out, the grain is far too harsh -- that along with the damage sounds like they got a shit deal for their money. Crushed blacks and blown out whites often mean poor digital modifications but Criterion really doesn't do that (they modify contrast as you can see by comparing to other releases, but it almost always is for the better and does not look like their Harakiri release) so I'm more inclined to blame it on their print (crushed blacks and blown out whites also happen on poorly made prints from what I've read) which sounds like.. a bad print. No offense taken. I have zero problems with the High and Low BD for instance -- but Harakiri just seems like it could've been handled far far better. |

It was either a random error..... or for the first time in a LONG time, I actually 'needed' to update my firmware.
I popped in "Blue" from Three Colors, and after selecting the option to play the film, it went to a gray screen, and I waited, but no whacky C, or "Janus" logo was forthcoming. It froze my player, and I had to unplug it and reconnect it in order to re-boot, and then it did it again. This time I was able to exit out of the Blu-ray though, and proceeded to update the firmware, it re-booted, and then played immediately when prompted. I guess I either haven't bought many new films lately, or the frequency of how often the player has required a firmware update has decreased, because I think the last time I updated the firmware on this particular player, was when I bought it (as a replacement to another one) about a year ago. "Blue" is mesmerizing of course. |

Thought I'd share a pic of my updated Criterion Collection after the recent B&N sale. On another note I watched Kiss Me Deadly as soon as it came in the other day and absolutely loved it. One of the toughest noirs I've ever seen.

A film like Antichrist would make me sick. I became physically ill and started gagging while watching Caligula, so Salo and Antichrist aren't films I care to see. |
