With very little new to rent I can see the big drop in Netflix by mail rental. I currently have 19 disc in my queue, only 3 are 2022 or newer. I remember when most of my queue was mostly new titles. Redbox revenue is also down for the same reason.

Also from MPN here.

Hastings hailed Netflix’s first 25+ years as “a good start” from DVD by-mail rental pioneer to streaming giant with more than 231 million global subscribers — and only subscription streaming service generating a profit ($55 million in fiscal 2022).

I don’t even do rentals now. I just blind buy enough to see me through the year (and then some).

I was happy to read Hastings was stepping down as Netflix CEO.

Some would say that's expensive but it's actually not really.

Default Bandolero!

For me it would have been. In 2022 did 80 disc via Netflix by mail for an average $2.25 each. Of those only purchased 3 titles. If I had blind purchased the other 77 titles at just $12 on average that would still be $924 for titles that I would never watch again, so $924 - $180 for Netflix = $744 saved by renting.

Recently blind purchased several older westerns, some were recommended by posters here. The good part, most of these were made with what was in front of the lens as the important part and not trying to make the lens a part of the story telling.

Was surprised at the 4 channel sound track of Bandolero!, quite good for 1968. There was some dialogue panning to match the onscreen but most was center channel.

I cancelled my Netflix plan in May after being a customer since 1999. I hardly ever touched them and have maintained about 50 unseen purchased movies and around 30 tv show seasons sitting on my shelves for a couple of years now, so there has always been something new to watch. Felt like I was breaking up with a longtime girlfriend. I am going to pop in The Menu here in a little bit. Crappy week at work, so can use something a little bit dark.

Love Stephen Graham (especially the character Combo in This Is England) enjoyed Boiling Point, interesting that there is going to be a tv series this year.

Watched Zombieland: Double Tap last night. Not a classic but a perfectly pleasant way to spend 90 minutes. Likeable cast, a few cool action scenes and good FX.

The 4K looked and sounded sweet.

Here it was a blind buy

It was good but I would say 3 of 5 stars type thing. Really not for everybody.

I saw the trailer at the cinema but I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this movie.
His 2 other movies are great though. (And still not released on disc)

I know that I canceled my DVD Netflix subscription for around a year because there just were no new titles I was interested in. A lot of the back catalogue stuff I wanted to watch is not available on DVD, or the wait on it was so long that I gave up and just went through my local library instead. The problem with the library is people abuse the discs. I've had many that do not play period.

That's a drag for sure.

My library has an online service called Kanopy where I can watch 6 things a month.

I think other libraries have something similar with a different name and I think some of them are unlimited.

It tends to have a lot of what's on other platforms naturally but Kanopy is a great place to take a look at stuff you have never heard of and find out if you want to hunt down the disc after.

Kanopy comes in great in a clutch. I have several library cards from different systems and the limits vary. One of my cards gets me 10 credits per month. Another library resource that also comes in handy from library systems is Hoopla Digital.
