Athletic director Dick Baddour is also out at UNC. Baddour will stay on until a replacement is found, but his contract expires next year and after the Davis mess there was no question that he wasn't going to be retained so it's likely the school asked him to step down once they found a replacement. Also, the UNC chancellor said Davis was not fired for cause will get a $2.7 million buyout from UNC.

I'm glad to see Baddour going down as well. I'm amazed that Gene Smith still has a job after the Ohio State mess. It seems often the athletic director's get away free of damage and just use the coach's as a sacrificial lamb.

I still wonder how Miami would have done in the 2000's had Butch Davis stayed there. He was the guy who recruited some of the Canes greatest teams ever, only to leave just before they peaked in 2001 and 2002. He was a master at recruiting the finest players from south Florida.

We'd probably have a couple more national titles, but we also might have come under the scrutiny of the NCAA for violations. One good thing about Randy Shannon is that he ran a clean program and changed the image of Miami Hurricanes football. Hopefully Al Golden continues that attitude while winning more football games.

The Humanitarian Bowl, played in Boise, has been renamed the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Congrats to the city of Boise for now having the worst-named and ugliest-logoed bowl game!

Quote:
BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU assistant coach Steve Kragthorpe has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and is relinquishing his duties as offensive coordinator, but is remaining on the Tigers' staff.

Kragthorpe, who was hired during the offseason, will remain as the quarterbacks' coach while Greg Studrawa has been elevated to offensive coordinator.

The 46-year-old Kragthorpe is the former head coach at Louisville (2007-09) and at Tulsa (2003-06). He replaced Gary Crowton on LSU's staff after Crowton left to take a position at Maryland.

The Tigers are expected to hold a news conference Thursday afternoon.

I hate UF more than any team or organization in the history of teams and organizations, but they have a tough row of stumps this year, playing the pre-season 2, 4, 5, 12, 19, and 22.

22 is the best.

I'll bet UCF finishes in the top-25 this season. The preseason poll has them 33rd. Most of the key players from our 11-3 team that finished 22nd in the nation last season are returning, including our star QB Godfrey who is only a Sophomore.

A few surprises to me!

Florida State #5???? That seems a little high to me.
Also, Ohio State at #16 is a surprise too. I'd expect them to do okay, but maybe in the high 20s...

Also, where did Notre Dame come from? Preseason #18 after an 8-5 finish in 2010?

I am glad to see Michigan out of the top 25. Now, Michigan is my favorite team in College Football, but I'd rather see them overachieve, then implode. I'm hopeful that Brady Hoke will do a far better job than R-Rod....

It's Notre Dame, they are always overrated. However, their schedule isn't terrible, they've got tough games against Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, and USC but if they can split those games and win the rest (making them 10-2) they'll go to a BCS bowl. They fully reinstated receiver Michael Floyd despite a guilty plea for drunk driving (his third alcohol arrest during his time at Notre Dame).

It's nice they're not sacrificing their morals...

I know Stonum (WR at Michigan) is in doubt for the season because he'd been arrested for drunk driving and sentenced to 2-years probation. He's a pdecent WR too. Quite frankly, I'd probably sit him too. Drunk Driving is a big deal to me.

I think the NCAA should make drunk driving a mandatory (minimum) one game suspension, since some teams clearly won't take care of the issue themselves. There's no way Floyd should be playing week 1 after a guilty drunk driving plea and letting him play just shows Notre Dame is putting their football team ahead of the school's integrity. A big reason a lot of teams schedule week 1 cupcake games is so they can get suspensions out of the way against teams their third team would crush.

Agreed. Send a message early to these kids. Some coaches/programs refuse to do it.

Problem is that the NCAA is a joke.

Your Georgia program is an example of a team that is doing it the right way. They have an incredibly tough game against Boise week 1, but they've still suspended multiple players for various violations, many more minor than a guilty DUI plea. It would have been easy to let the players play but Richt has more integrity than that.

Ain't that the truth, ha.

Speaking of overrated, ND is #18 after being 8-5, but Texas is ranked #24 after being 5-7. Now, I'm sure some will just say I need to take my crimson glasses off , but really, wtf? This year is one giant question mark for that team, and I just don't see how they can be ranked that highly given last year and so many unknowns this year.

A few people talk about OU playing 3 top 10 teams, 2 away, but Tulsa has 3 too (OU, OSU and Famous Potato State), but all are pre-season. Going to be a rough September for them. They definitely have the opportunity to do something though.

Georgia opens with #7 (Boise State) and #12 (South Carolina) in the first two weeks of the season.

Then has ranked teams in Auburn, Mississippi State, and Florida.

Of course, this is all preseason and so much will change that it won't even be funny.
