i was like WOW!! thats a good deal. 5.1 setup with towers for $1300

i would probably just sell off the CB-5 surrounds and sub anyways (have a svs cylinder already) and take that money and buy the CR-10 surrounds instead.

if i can sell my dali's i would really consider that setup. i dont think the wife would approve until i sold the dali's first.
I paid $1100 for CF-50's and the CC-10 about 8 weeks ago. This sounds like a good deal. You would probably need an amp to get the best out of the CF-70's though. Does Energy make good subs? I've never heard one.

PM sent/replied

The 70s are nice towers I watched parts of Dark Knight on them, good bass, they do sound better on an amp the a reciever. Regarding def tech... the 2000 series is nice, th rest lack IMO.

Anyways consider my PM, and get back to me.

for the money there are better subs then the Energy subs, IMO. Their news ones are even worse then what they had before. Buy an elemental designs sub

Also, the grille does not go on easily and I feel like if I push harder on the plastic I will brake it.

How do I get the plugs out of the terminals without doing any damage. I have considered just using a screw driver and prying them up but I think this will cause the plastic screw down knobs to mar.
is your setup just CB-5s?

ya, well there is a guy local to me that is selling a def tech setup.

i like the energy speakers today and i think for the special price was a great deal. so you think i should keep what i got. not sure about going back to bookshelfs or sat speakers. had them for years and moved up to towers and have not been happier.

honestly, I would. Energy makes very good mid-fi speakers like Paradigm and PSB does, I think ultimately, unless you need the money and therefore need to sell the Dalis, I wouldn't buy Energy or Def Tech.

If a blu-ray player like PS3 upscales dvds (I assume it does) but is connected to the receiver via HDMI, is the upscaled video sent to the display or does the connection from blu-ray to receiver have to be analog? Is content streamed from netflix also upscaled by the PS3?

I see that some receivers have the ability to upscale but only analog to HDMI while high end receivers like the Marantz SR5005 have the ability to upscale HDMI to HDMI? Would the HDMI to HDMI upscaling be useful in a situation where 720p is transmitted to the receiver via HDMI from a device like apple tv? Would it also come into play when streaming standard definition netflix content via HDMI connection to the receiver?

honestly, the less the video signal is touched the better, 720p looks very good also, personally, I would rather that my AVR doesn't touch the video signal unless it is analog to HDMI. What your PS3 can do is probably better then your AVR anyways.

Now your CF30s will appreciate the added power you give them. I heard them with a Pioneer Elite and the bass is quite impressive with the VSX-23 and the Denon 2310. However, the Denon 1611 and the Yamaha 667, both will not produce the amount of watts/ch that they state, they just don't draw enough current to the receiver to output that much power. So in that price range, you can't expect high output levels. I know that the recent Sony DN1000 and DN1010 have been tested to higher levels then the Pioneers and Yamahas pushing out about 66 wpc when driving 5 or more, which in the price range is pretty close to the top of the performance chart. Sonys have very good video processing and usually have the least amount of issue with software. Something you can consider.

i hear ya, just wanted to test the waters and see if i can sell them. i figure if i could put 1 or 2k in the bank again and be happy with a smaller less expensive setup for home theater than why not. it just doesnt seem to be a high priority of mine anymore. i have been living in the condo for 7 months now and never even hook up or set up my rear surrounds. i have been watching my tv and all my blu's with just from front stage setup, which is my dali ikon 7 towers, ikon vokal 2 center and my svs sub.

ithas sounded great all this time and i am sure if i did hook up the rears i would be like what have i been missing??? for some reason i just dont feel it like i use to with HT. so i figure i downsize to a less expensive system and get what i can for the dali's. the bad thing is that not too many people know what dali speakers are or have demo'd them. therefore no interest.

thanks for your input, it does help. hey if i dont sell them for what i want i just keep them. i wont sacrifice selling them for lowball prices, i will just keep them.

thanks again callas

ya i really loved my PSB setup before i moved, but then i sold them all. stuck with the dali's since i already had the towers, just added a center and bought the surrounds.

i thought maybe with def tech i could atleast sell all my dali's and my svs sub and just go with the def tech cause of the built in subs. i guess i am trying to make it simple and easy. not too worried about having the best brand or the best sound. just something i can enjoy with HT.

my brother inlaw just bought the exact same setup in PSB as i had. he really like it at my old house. so he wanted more than just a sat system, so he bought the whole setup and kept his cambridge SW 15" mega sub.

sometime i miss my psb speakers and wish i had stuck with them and sold the dali towers instead. oh well, live and learn

i will keep you up on what happens, take care

thanks, ya i already did. i thought about ebay, but ebay can be a pain in the butt. craigslist stinks cause they all want something for nothing on that site. lots of low ballers there. i also considered putting them on here, but again not alot of people know and i have not had much success on here selling anything.

we shall see....

Well guys, since I got the job I was waiting for I went ahead and celebrated and purchased the RC-LCR off of Ebay for the 370 and free shipping. I figured I wouldn't find it much cheaper than that so I went ahead and got it. I had some Christmas money from good old dad and used some of it.
