I'm definitely looking forward to that as well.

Thanks Lee and Mods,

Brian

PS all of us have a bias? All of us make it personal ? .... Which one of us calls another a liar? Which one of us suggest another go pound sand ? I know you want the thread closed but dream on (preferably somewhere else).

The thing about positive people they become more determined when confronted with a negative.

Look at it like this, a successful rancher with 100 cattle does not take kindly to a rancher trying to tell him how to ranch when that rancher has managed to only have 17 cattle.

Guys,

... (removed ... calmed down ... no longer trigggered.)

I'm sorry to be arguing here. I will try harder to be better. I don't take back the part about how I love it here and enjoy your company. I try but today I got triggered and that's wrong.

I disagree, positive people seem to always provide info that benefits others so you would be missed here.

True enthusiast have always been heckled by those with lesser. That has been my experience for > 37 years starting with LD and 78" front projector.

Let's all try and calm down a bit. There is no need for anyone to leave this site/thread.

most people in this thread like streaming/digital DL content most people in this thread like watching content on physical media.

Wendell, avoid. The camera stuttered and juddered (for effect). I feel it may have been a bit frantic for your taste.
Looked at one scene via YouTube. I'm OK with cheap horror but only if they use at least a tripod with the camera.

Three other things that annoy me: lens flares, people walking between the camera and subject of a scene, camera on a Jimmy Jib making several circles around the subject.

So you take offense if I post an article from Media Play News - one of the few sites dedicated to physical media left, that states that Netflix rentals have decreased by 50%. Have I got that right?

Have any of you thanked me for keeping up the Home Video Sales Thread (HMM weekly/DEG quarterly/Nielsen Top 20/etc.)? NO. Well maybe you can do a better job than I did - I quit.

BTW - your post shows you are nothing more than an elitist. The old "mine is bigger than yours BS."

Have no problem with the content of the post. The problem arises when all you do is post negative aspects of disc. Most here probably know the state of disc and how little new content there is. None of the nay sayers have ever produced a list of titles that should sell in big numbers but have not. Same for rental and Redbox executives pointed this out.

IMO, Bruce determined sometime back that his thread had lost its importance because of loss of box office power and just stopped posting. I pointed out sometime back that if folks wanted the info it was easy enough to click on MPN site.

Wow, like I never heard that before. A negative rancher with just 17 cows will make comments like yours. A positive rancher with just 17 cows is going to try hard to learn what the rancher with 100 cows knows. And so it goes!

Psssst . . . the disc market is shrinking by 18% a year. THERE IS NO GOOD NEWS to post.

Your analogy has a huge hole in in. My 17 cows just happen to be Kobe Beef cows versus your 100 Walmart Beef cows.

Actually there is, with virtually no new content to release content owners are mining old catalog titles for release on BD at a rate that makes it difficult to keep up with. These will never sell in big numbers but I am glad to have access to those older titles like Walter Hill's Streets of Fire, Louis Malle's Pretty Baby. Will checkout The Old Way to see if worthy of adding to collection. Just added 10 titles to the collection, most were old catalog.

Since I am a elitist I am off to watch some content with a projector using a 133" screen, a sound system with 13 loudspeakers with several kilowatts of audio power.

Have not met many elitist that did 10 years of commercial building janitorial work to pay for a video projector, designed and built 7 of those loudspeaker, designed and built their home theater, etc. YMMV.

The far more important statistic to us is how many titles are released on disc, not how many copies sell of each one. That number hasn't gone down.

It's a fantastic time to be a fan of physical media, I can't keep up with all the wonderful releases every year (and I doubt anyone else can either).

Like I said before 2022 wasn't a very good year. A lot of the blockbuster movies kind of flopped and we got less total blockbusters still then before the disruptions began. When the whole thing started we got a huge push of catalog titles as money was redistributed. That's really slowed down though in 2022.

2023 should be where the media market goes somewhat back to normal. Streaming prices are going up (rather then selling at a loss). The releases that got pushed back are mostly going back to a normal release schedule. The catalog stuff will probably stay around the same to go down a bit I guess.

2019 had around 140 theatrical release I think. The industry thinks releases will be around 120 by 2024, so that should tell us more. It’s going in the right direction though. Domestic (USA) is already over half a billion for 2023 and we still have a week left of this month.

Excellent start.

I saw Skinamarink at my local theater over the weekend. I REALLY wanted to like it more than I did and think that some of it was very effective but at times it felt like the director was being obtuse just to be different. That's not necessarily a bad thing if it serves the story and is effective but in this case it wasn't always so. I know it was made for only $15,000 but I feel the original Paranormal Activity, which was made for around the same, was much more effective.

With all that being said, it was a very creepy flick that did a great job at creating a sense of dread. There were a couple of old school jump scares (suddenly loud music and jump cut to creepy image) that felt out of place and cheap to me, but those aside it definitely stays with you when it's over. I liked it enough to pick it up on disc. Recommended for the horror fans here.
