For all who saw this already sorry to be late but this video about movie audio production is great.

Why we all need subtitles. (and why most of the time I don't need or use them.)

The short version is movies are mixed for multi channel theaters and not for TVs and phones.

They will always maintain the servers for your online content and you will always have access to your online content until for one reason or another suddenly you don't.

Most recent example....

‘I cried all night’: Millions of Chinese lose access to ‘World of Warcraft’ and other hit games

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/24/tech/...tdown-intl-hnk

"after a licensing agreement with longtime local partner NetEase (NTES) expired" Bam!... Plug is pulled due to a disagreement which you have no part of. Your things taken instantly by remote push of a button. Most people know you don't own certain things but rather you have the right to use them until it gets revoked for any reason at all. When you buy an iTunes movie for $5 and expect someone to maintain it's availability forever then you may have a problem on down the line.

iTunes may have,
Vudu may have,
But, god bless the child who's got his own,
Who's got his own.

How many times do you buy the same movie? LD, DVD, BD and now UHD-BD.

4

(I didn't buy many LDs but still 4 because sometimes there's good remaster)

For Terminator 2 there's a subscribe and save option.

Of course some folks never bought the older formats or got rid of them so in that case the UHD-BD is all you need.

I share the sentiment. I am only upgrading things to 4KBD if it's a night-and-day improvement over the standard BD. Like some early BD titles I own that were encoded in MPEG-2 such as Lord Of War, Mission Impossible 1-3, etc. The 4Ks look much better.

You're right my Movie Collection is on a Server, but not just one I can access it from Amazon, MA, Vudu, and Google. It should be very easy to move to any other Provider that will Support my Collection, including my ISP. Now Disc have a few limitations first is having a good Player, because those Oppo's are getting Long in the Tooth. Then the Studios will start cutting back, because it won't be Cost Effective. The Average Cost of BD which includes 4K UHD is around $20, and you guys seem to buy 4K's averaging around $15. The Cost of making Discs according to some YouTubers, for BD 1.5 X DVD and 4K 6.5 X DVD. The Studios won't make their Break Even Point let alone a Profit, so Disc Production will be Cut!

You think that if Amazon removes a movie from your digital collection your ISP will provide support instead?

Depends on the movie and what, if any, advantage a newer format may have. Have had some titles on LD and repurchased on DVD, D-Theater, Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray.

Have purchased Blade Runner numerous times and got moneys worth each time. IF T2 were ever released with a true upgrade in PQ then I would buy it for like the 7th time.

Your fantasy predictions reflect a hope that physical media will somehow get too expensive for everyone involved.

Meanwhile, streaming has never been a profitable business. They are raising prices and adding ads and cracking down on password sharing all to try to someday have a profitable business.

I've been collecting movies for years and in my experience the price is stable. It was more expensive in the days of laserdisc.

Yes, a player is needed to play them. I don't use an Oppo. My player is still made and sold and still under warranty.

Why campaign against physical media ? ...

The only thing I can think of is you don't want to visit a friend and wonder why movies look and sound so much better than at home.

I have not.

I think Hamilton Books was selling this title and a couple of other Western 4K discs for like $2.95 each. They also charge you sales tax and a flat $4 shipping fee.

Same BS that has been disproven time and time again. At this point almost any physical release generates more profit than 99% of streamers.

Has anyone else noticed that Redbox is acquiring fewer releases on Blu-ray? I tried to get Lamborghini from there and they only have the DVD. I also looked for The Menu on there, but they don't even have it in their "Coming Soon" area. Is Redbox losing money to the point where they'll go broke soon? It's a good thing DVD Netflix is still available.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, owner of Crackle AVOD service, is scooping up DVD rental business Redbox in a $375 million deal. The all stock deal is comprised of $50 million in Chicken Soup for the Soul stock and the assumption of $321 million in Redbox's debt, according to Forbes.

Give $50 million worth of stock to assume $321 Million in dept.

Seems reasonable.
