I'm tired of these companies all starting their own services. I see now MGM is making one called MGM+. I thought all their properties were already on Amazon Prime? Peecock doesn't have jack crap on it. Netflix is getting to be the same way. Disney+ has the best content imo. HBO Max I had to cancel as the audio quality was atrocious. I wish we could just go back to the days where everything was on Netflix.

Amazon Prime started MGM+ using the content they bought when they bought MGM. They aren't going to feed their own streamer MGM content (other than the Bond movies) and they also license those out to the other streaming services. They want you to pay for it.

Wendell you don't know what you're talking about, and always with your name calling. I still have a large collection of Discs, BD and DVD with a good Player I can still use. I don't want anything you have, I'm content with my Sony UHD TV maybe a bigger one 75" or 85." I can watch just about any Movie or TV Show I want, with IPTV, Server DVR, and Android Apps for my Streaming Content. I keep saying it's All Digital and the Quality is Subjective, and very dependent on your Equipment and Bandwidth!

Last night after watching Wheelman on Netflix, I watched Frisco Kid with Harrison Ford and Gene Wilder off my IPTV Server Based DVR. Remember this is Digital vs Physical Discussion, and I just prefer Digital Now!

You always bring up CompuServe, back in the day they were my Priority Customer when I worked for PacBell. They use to call me 24/7 when one of their Modem Pools went down. I would call one of my Techs to move their Lead Number to another Pool. Very good Customer!

Come on, you're always posting the same graph and wave it around like it's the holy grail.
The Disney board talking to their investors.
Of course they're going to say it will be profitable. What else are they going to say ?
I guess time will tell.

I think it will consolidate into something like NF.

Movies may have a window for theaters and then some type of NF service will have most content.

I believe people will lose interest in having multiple subscriptions.

You are not qualified to comment on my technical skills, if you were then you could have answered some of the fairly simple questions that I have asked you several times. An example: what length of Belden 1508A cable would one need to construct a 300Ω to 75Ω ½λ coaxal balun for 475 MHz?

Troll: someone that repeats misinformation or false information over and over.

Nobody cares about your Technical question and it makes you look like a smug elitist. I just hope the other members of High End Equipment don't share your narrow minded thoughts. We all love the notion of Story Telling and Film, and it shouldn't be just one Physical Format....Because it's All Digital!!!

I rent from them almost weekly. I like doing business with this company. I rented almost 80 discs last year, but I hardly ever pay full price. I joined their frequent renters program, and they send me promo codes weekly. I hope they'll continue to be a factor in physical media.

Default Physical Disc Prices are going up!

I told you guys Disc Prices are going up, here is one YouTuber that says not to worry but IMO the Studios see it differently. Break Even Point and Profit Margins matter!

Best Buy recently started offering free shipping for members with no minimum purchase so I guess this is their way of offsetting that. There's been some discussion on it in the Best Buy thread here.

ok so I'll ask again and if no one responds the second time I'll take the hint,

We have some professional predictors here so which will go away first ...

Subscription services
Online Movie services
Physical Media

I have Star wars on D+, own it on iTunes and have the UHD BD. Which will I lose first?

I'm betting online movie lockers are the first to go and the only thing in danger of being replaced by subscriptions. Subscriptions is the new cable.

Also, personally I think piracy will be considered cyber crime and become less common and far more dangerous for the end user. Everything is driven by pure greed now so piracy will be an easy target.

And on that topic, Alchav can you tell me more about your IPTV DVR? Is it legit? DRM maintained ? If your a movie pirate it's going to affect how I value your opinions and theories about home video.

-Brian

Which will I lose first access to ?

Online movie services, including ‘lockers’. I have always said they are the new ‘MP3’ download. Meant to be the future but now sitting collecting digital dust on hard drives or iPods while most of the mainstream stream Spotify or Apple Music.

I see direct parallels to be honest.

Music streaming services are also deeply flawed and something needs to change there in the future.

So again, parallels in the sense that what replaces one format is deeply unstable. (MP3 to streams, Digital movies to subscription services’)

Who knows how it turns out, but I’m secure with ownership of my discs.

I agree.

I think the future path of movies will be

Theatrical (if it's any good),
Premium subscription access and physical media,
Ad based viewing for the worst content and the laziest end users.

iTunes, Fandango/Vudu, MoviesAnywhere is all disposable now and likely going away soon.

Seriously though, when those services eventually go away, and people start asking for refunds and get told "no, you never actually 'owned' it;" will it kick off a tidal wave of class-action lawsuits?

A while back all the terms and conditions were edited to the first thing you agree to is no class action arbitration.

Just check them it's already there.

Vudu -If you have a Dispute (as defined below) with us that cannot be resolved informally or in small claims court, you will not have the right to pursue a claim in court or have a jury decide the claim

MoviesAnywhere decided on the all caps version - ANY DISPUTE BETWEEN YOU AND US MUST BE RESOLVED BY INDIVIDUAL BINDING ARBITRATION.

Still reading Apple's terms but they like the all caps version too...BY USING THE SERVICES, YOU AGREE, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD APPLE, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, AGENTS, CONTRACTORS, AND LICENSORS HARMLESS WITH RESPECT TO ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF YOUR BREACH OF THIS AGREEMENT

All of them made you agree to no class action already. People will no doubt try and cry class action will meet with the giggles of those who know how to read.

Availability on streaming services will still be important as will licensing to other studios. Ad supported or otherwise.

But yeah, theatrical first please!

There’s that statement again that makes you look like a , again. Being all binary (digital) has absolutely no bearing on the technical quality of the content. I can easily encode a bad VHS to digital.
