Thanks Olivier, my Infinity always sounded pretty good to me, however I'm sure I will notice an improvement. Even though my Infinity center has the same size drivers I don't think the power rating and frequency ratings will come near to the LCR. Therefore, I should be able to adjust the center mode on my receiver to "Wideband." I'm not sure how yours works, but I have 3 settings for center on my receiver: Normal, Wideband, and Phantom (for no center). According to the manual, in Normal mode, no frequencies below 100 Hz are sent to the center. In "Wideband" mode all frequencies are sent to the center when you are using a center speaker equal in size and power to the front left and right speakers, so I'm sure the LCR will sound better in Wideband. My Infinity center sounded better in Normal mode for some reason, even though they are the same size as the RC-10's. Although I'm sure the frequency response of the infinity will not match the RC's.

Default Speaker Auditioning

Well guys today Landyp2000 and I went speaker auditioning for some bookshelf speakers for my 2 channel rig. I was able to listen to Energys, B&W, Def Tech's, and Martin Logans. I will say Energy totally surprised me. All I can say is wow. Def techs was last and no one else was close to them. They absolutely suck to me. I listen to the B&W 685 and 686 and both CM bookshelf speakers. I listen to Energy CB10 and CB20. I will say that those Energy speaker definitely shocked me. I was expecting the B&W's to come out the clear cut winner but man I kept going back to the the Enerygys. I was amazed at the sound coming from $350 energys. They are definitely more laid back than the B&W's which were a little foward to me. Energy has really caught my eye. Just my thoughts

Derrell I am not so surprised I have listen to alot of speakers in that price range not much comes close to this I mean you don't get the same level of details as a 1000$ bookshelf nor the same bass response but at 349 a pair the CB-20 are good. Now the RC-10 blows the CB 20 out of the water in almost every aspect. Now Imagine an upgraded version of RC-10 in the Veritas 5.1.

Derrell, I was considering the CB-20 when Olivier and Steve recommended the RC-10's. I made a blind buy without having heard them and I'm glad I did. They out perform my old Yamaha floor standers and they were pretty good speakers.

I have been called the Energy Pusher on this forum my several people, but its with great reason. Energy really does make a nice speaker, esp. at the price points they are in. I understand surprise, many people that hear them that have never heard them always say the same thing. Everyone wants to compare them to Polks, but they are much better. They play in that PSB/Paradigm/B&W range. Now you know why I suggested the V5.1 the other day in your thread.

I don't know if I fully understood, but did you say the Def Techs sucked?

I am trying to get my ears on alot of speakers right now. There are a few dealers in my area. I was kind of disappointed in the B&W CM bookshelf speakers. They were that much better than the 685's or 686's. I am definitely enjoying myself. I have decided on a jolida intetgrated that has a tube preamp section and and ss output section. It puts out about 40 watts per channel and gets glowing reviews. Can't wait to next weekend when I visit 2 more dealers in my area.

Yea, I'm going to be so busy at my new job I won't have time to enjoy them. New boss said to prepare for a lot of overtime. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not complaining. After being off for 6 months I'm ready for anything.

I listened to some def tech monitors with an 8 inch passive radiator. They by far were the worst of all the speakers I auditioned today. I was totally unimpressed. They had shrill highs, didnt image well at all. No depth, they just sounded really bad compared to everything I listened to today. B&W was good, but the CM's did not prove to be that much better than the 68X series bookshelves.

before I got the Dynaudios, I heard the B&W CM9/8/5s, I also heard the Studio 60s and Monitor 11s, the Dyns were better then them all. Personally, Im not a fan of any of the new Def Techs, or the recently departed 7000 series. Your dead on about the highs, and the mid-range lacks. The bi-pole design to me is a little bit of gimmick to make them more expensive and differenciate them from the pack. JMPO. I know others won't share it, and that is OK, but thats how I feel. Big Daddy has the 2000 series def techs, and those I like a lot. I don't care what HTM says about the new Def Techs, personally I wouldn't spend $1500 on them when I can buy my Dyns.

Default Energy RC50 with Marantz PM6002

Has anybody used or auditioned Energy RC50 with Marantz PM6002?

I have bought a pair of RC50 and deciding to buy either of two options:
1. Marantz SR5005
2. Marantz PM6002 for Stereo and Pioneer VSX-920K for Movies

Both the options cost the same.

Kindly give your valuable suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

in your case just get the 5005, the pio 920 receiver won't be very good powering the RC speakers, it doesn't draw enough current to put out enough power to properly power the speakers you bought. I have heard the Marantz receivers on Energy speakers, and they sound very nice.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am from India and we have very limited choice over here. Unfortunately i could only audition Energy speakers with Pioneer VSX-920k. RC50 sounded very nice for most of songs but RC70 sounded very laid back on Pioneers. When i went for second audition, RC's got sold and distributor had nothing left. I have booked it from US now.

Once i had auditioned Marantz SR6004 with C500 with my friend a year back and they sounded very nice but i remember he had to increase the volume too much to juice the C500's. So i am not sure how would Marantz work with RC's?

What are your thoughts on having both Marantz PM6002 and Pioneer 920K. I had never liked Jamo S606 but once i heard them with PM6002 and they sounded fantastic. But again not sure on how would 45Watt 6002 work with RC50.

I have asked a dealer to get me a demo for above AVR and Amp at my place if possible but not sure whether he will agree.

Thanks for your help.

Congrats on your new speakers MaCruz. I'll be ordering my center within the week. Though I'm going to go with a floorstander of some sort.

As an aside, I had a small problem with my front left the other night. I was watching How to be a Megastar Live when I realized I was getting no sound out of it. I wiggled the banana plugs a bit and then unplugged the speakers and made sure everything was tightened down. Everything seemed fine so I plugged it back in and haven't had a problem since.

Anyone have an idea what the problem was/is?

Thanks man. So far they sound very good. I can't wait to see the difference with the RC-LCR center soon. What type of floorstander are you going to use?

EDIT: I just now noticed your HT gallery thread.
