Hi everyone.
I'm new. I used to make DVD covers a lot on some other forums. Now I've finally got around to making Blu-Ray covers. I just wanted to post a preview of a couple I'm doing: I'm working on a set for the films of Stanley Kubrick. I want to have a clean front cover with original poster artwork. I haven't really decided what to do with the backs yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm also removing the "Stanley Kubrick's" from the covers, it's too redundant. Any input or criticism is appreciated. |

An "Anything" Collection seems like a bad idea honestly. Why would anyone want their favourite films as part of some random 'collection' with whatever the collection is plastered all over it? Surely everybody would take original and unique film covers that don't have Whatever Collection written all over them

Nothing on this cover that you have arranged works well. The black square with the logo inside it doesn't fit and looks rushed, the 'War Collection' font is extremely overused and doesn't look good, yellow particularly doesn't fit most of the covers you've made, the green spine is a very bad green and also doesn't fit any of the covers, the way you have the actor credits on the front doesn't make sense for this cover. For that last one, sure, I mean it made sense since it was above each one's head, (even though that didn't look great either), but here especially it doesn't work. Look at it and think 'Why are they arranged like that? Does it flow with the background image?'. In this case it very much does not. And why have you taken up space on his forehead? It's very unbalanced having everything up the top like that.
Rather than continue down the alphabet and make more covers you might want to rethink the way you do them and what you're doing before you commit to such a large task. You might also want to consider the fact that anything as part of a collection is a bad look, each film should be it's own film unless of course it's part of an ACTUAL series and not just grouped together because they're all vaguely war related. It's a nice idea, but it doesn't work and if you're trying to become a designer I think you need to see this, and move on to something else. |
