The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - 4/5

It was a real pleasure seeing Heath on the screen again, though very sad seeing the "in memory of..." in the credits. The cast was great (how awesome was Tom Waits as the Devil!?). Christopher Plummer was fantastic and I was really impressed with Lily Cole and Andrew Garfield. Even Vern Troyer did a pretty good job.

I actually liked the movie a lot. For some reason I got the impression from the trailer that it was gonna be "circusy", which it wasn't at all. It was really cool to see Colin Farrell, Johnny Depp and Lude Law as different parts of Heath's character's personality. All in all, a pretty cool movie

Just watched THE CRAZIES, it's soundtrack defaulted to the dolby 5.1 not the PCM! Disc had issues at the 35 min - 42 min mark from Netflix. So I missed a few mins. Overall though it was pretty entertaining with a few good jumps and decent loud soundtrack. PQ was fine also. Worth a rent. 7.5/10.

Rome: Season 1

-great series overall. Half-way through, I was mildly entertained, and felt I was destined to give 3.5 stars. However, the second-half (and especially the last third) of the show were amazing, and just as importantly, shone light on the first half developments.
-During the first half, my only issue was

[Show spoiler]the pace and how the plot seemed repetitive with respect to Caesar (Caesar is away from Rome, Caesar is in Rome, Caesar is away from ROme, Caesar is back in Rome) and Titus/Lucus (in the army, out of the army, in the army, etc).

However, the second half showed why much of this was necessary:

[Show spoiler] they needed to show the evolution of Caesar's relationship with Brutus and Sylvania, which would lead to his downfall, as well as highlight the differences between Lucus (moralist, idealist) and Titus (player), to further develop why they took such different paths in the second half

-I'm no history buff, but love how the series shows Rome as having a debauchery that would make Las Vegas look like the Vatican! Very cool because I tend to have that naive view of historical periods = clean/proper instead of genitalia graffiti everywhere (as in the opening credits)
-Great show overall, can't wait to see season 2. BTW...Squid (and anyone else who's seen both seasons), did you prefer season 1 or 2?

Man I need to start this show up again, I stopped (for whatever reason) towards the end of season 1. It was a blind buy for me as well during the crazy sales late last year, and I'm glad I did because it's a great show.

it's actually hard for me to decide because both seasons are extremely different. almost in every aspect. season 1 starts slower, season 2 only has 10 episodes and moves through history in a huge rush. not slow at all. you may hate the frenetic pace (but they found out at the beginning of season 2 (i think?) that this was the last season, in the commentaries they talk about how they had ideas for 5-6 seasons () but had to wrap some stuff up and had to do it quickly, so that's why the pace is so fast), otherwise i think you'll love it.

i think i'd have to choose season 1, because

[Show spoiler]it has Ceasar in it

. but season 2 is great and has many great moments and i absolutely loved the Antony storyline.

season 1 by a nose. but i will be revisiting the show again soon so i may change opinions.
