Me I don't even have a center channel ATM... and its all good.
HEHE I use a folded Rubber mouse pad to angle my center and from what I remember horizontal center have good vertical dispersion and the LCR is great center so will also offer great off axis performance for horizontal dispersion.

A better thing to actually do is use these
http://www.dealpal.com/Auralex-MOPAD...shbackShopping

they tilt down, however if you turn them around, and let the back of the speaker rest on the lip that comes up you can tilt the speaker upwards towards you. These will also Isolate the speaker and reduce the resonance that can occur.

Another thing you would use would be this

No like a cabinet, if you have an entertainment cabinet or bookshelf that the speakers are in, like my C-50 is in, and there is no place for the air coming from the back ports to go, it will cause the sound to be boomy, WHICH, is why I said, pull those RC-30s AT LEAST 12"s from the wall.

The air from the speakers is blown out the back of the speaker, if that air is traped by a wall or cabinet, it will cause the sound to be wrong, itll sound boomy like Port Chuffing. YOU DO NO WANT THAT TO OCCUR.

Look at my TV stand, where the center would go its open in the back, if it was closed, then you wouuld want to insert the port plugs.

I auditioned some Energy CF-50's yesterday at Best Buy. I was very happy with how they sounded, but I've got a couple questions regarding them.

1) The salesman said that the Energy's contain both Klipsch technology as well as one other brand (mirage maybe?) He said that one brand's technology is used around the cone, and that the inner construction is using another brand's technology... Now, I know that Klipsch bought Energy, but was he just blowing smoke up my butt about the implementation of technology from Klipsch and another brand?

2) I didnt audition any other speakers while I was there, because everything else they had was quite out of my price range (B&W, Definitive Technology, Martin Logan). Should I still audition some Klipsch? JBL? Polk? Now I realize I'm posting this in the Official Energy speakers thread, but I hope ownership of such speakers wont cause too much bias in response to this question

3) Finally, They're priced at BB at $399. Is this a fair price? I know the CF-70s are freshly out. Because of this, does Energy ever do any price dropping? Is the CF-70 seen more as a "newer" CF-50, to where it could cause a price drop for the CF-50 at some point? Or is the CF-70 just on a different level than the CF-50 to where it's price would not be affected?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my (possibly ignorant) questions!

Hello,

I am new here, and am looking for info on my setup. I currently have a pair of Energy XL-25's, and am looking to add a center. I have read a lot of great things about the C-C1/100. Would it be overkill/mismatched to my XL-25's? Should I look for the XL center (which also gets ok reviews)?

Welcome to Blu-ray.com admile3!

BigAl, and Callas will chime in with their experience.

As for pricing. Energy speakers do go on sale. You just have to catch them on sale. I think Amazon sells them cheaper, and sometimes Audio Adivsor sells them at a good price, but as of now. There's not CF on sale. I got my RC-30 from them last week.

Energy has long been the grandfather product that API owned back in the day before klispch bought API, Mirage and Athena came about 10 and 15 yrs later. Most of the R&D was done for Energy, and then passed down to Mirage and Athena. Mirage did most of their R&D based around their Omni-pole design, and then used Energy Tweeters and drivers. The rubber surrounds on Energys was patented by Energy, and used on Mirage speakers.

There were from what I gather, one of Klipsch's lead designers involved in the process of the CF- series, however the Energy Engineers had full control and final decision making on the products, relative to cost efficiency. I had spoke with Klipsch/Energy CS department on the Phone about this in length one day, I was also the person that broke the Veritas line rebirth after the guys at klipsch told me.

Mirage and Energy have full control over R&D and speaker design, the engineers at klipsch are concerned about their Horns. They also worked briefly together on the Veritas line, but again Energy retained final say, relative to budget...

Why the BB person said that is beyond me, most of them don't know $hit. When I went to hear the CF-50 and CF-70, he was talking, and I just kept correcting him.

The CF-50s may not be your taste in what a speaker is, they are balanced and laidback, there won't be huge bass notes, but the bass will be tight and controlled, this is what a linear speaker does.

The CF-70s have more bass and have been around since the inception of the CF line. Thes speakers also need a lot of good clean power, so if you heard them on a cheap reciever you will not be satisfied. try them on the Marantz receivers or the higher end Pio Elites and even the Onkyos if they have them at your BB.

$399 is list, BB will often take 10-15% off if you ask, or tell them you will buy them online.

IMO, Energy is much better then Polk or Klipsch lines. JMO.

Thanks! Did you audition the RC-30's before purchasing them? If so, did you by chance audition the CF-50's as well? I wonder how they compare, as I could get a pair of the RC-30s for the price of just one CF-50...

No, I didn't. I went what BigAl, Callas, and few others said. I was looking at the CF-30's, but they told me the RC-30's would sound better.

I'm coming of the C-Series from Energy which is now used as surrounds.

I was about to chime in, but Steve (Callas) beat me to it.

The only thing I will add is that if you enjoyed the CF-50s and don't mind buying online the RC-30s can be had for $199.

I just received an email from Vann's. They are having one of their closeout sales and they have an open box sale on RC-30's here in case anyone is interested. They say the speakers are in perfect condition and still under warranty. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it...50/energy-rc30

In Fact the RC-30 retailed at 1300$ those are at a price you can't miss but I guggest you look for the RC-LCR as your center also, In my book no doubth the RC-30 are a much better overall speaker and the quality of the construction as well, Better drvers, Better Cabinet, and they have real wood veneers.

I have heard and compare both I mean the RC-used to be Energy Flagship model and the CF are the entry level. CF=Conoisseur Floor and RC stands for Refrence Conoisseur.

The RC will sound smoother and offer greater detail overall, Imaging is just as good on both and soundstage is better with the RC. Well worth the savings if you ask me, you could get CB as surrounds eventually.

Mike the link doesn't work.

Are they priced at $199?

If so they are also the same price as Audio Advisor.

They are 169.90, and I think they are having trouble with their site, because it took me a few tries to get through. I just tried and the link worked for me ok.

Dang, but buying demo's are just as good as buying them here from the trading forum huh?

But when they are demo's they can be played all day, or just when a customer wants to listen I guess.

I prefer new, but of course at a good price.

From the description on the site, it says that it was a customer returned item, but hey, I think people sometimes buy these, and try them with an underpowered receiver, or don't wait through the break in period and it doesn't sound right to them so they return it. They say that they are in perfect condition so hey you can't beat that, plus no shipping or tax.

Are you thinking of upgrading the fronts too?

But first thing is first. You need that job before you start buying.
