Exactly... frankly I dont like the leaks because its tacky and uncool and to me it spoils the fun of a label announcing it themselves. And the methods used to get the information just to post on the forums is also really tacky.

Also for the record if anyone cares and because we all love horror movies, right ?
Warner Archive on their Facebook page their will be a Horror Volume 2 set (they said planning specifically) , Warner's deal with Paramount (700+ key titles) expires at the end of this year and if you read or "hear" that it's already expired , that information is false. Some titles are now OOP or not in circulation because Warner doesn't care or just forgot to make more.

And words to live by - if a label says *yes we have a title* it doesn't necessarily mean it's getting released in three months

And every time I think fantastic I think Phantasm which would be Phantastic..

Maybe since Germany supposedly got the rights to release Fright Night 2, Scream! got them as well? *shrugs*

Right around the podcast they said they had no inroads to it - it would be great if that would change

I'm pretty sure the word "fantastic" is a veiled reference to

Elliot, Age 9: Well I've discovered why sex is.
Beverly, Age 9: You have? Fantastic.
Elliot, Age 9: It's because humans don't live under water.
Beverly, Age 9: I don't get it.
Elliot, Age 9: Well, fish don't need sex because they just lay the eggs and fertilize them in the water. Humans can't do that because they don't live in the water. They have to - internalize the water. Therefore we have sex.
Beverly, Age 9: So you mean humans would have sex if they lived in the water?
Elliot, Age 9: Well they'd have a kind of sex. The kind where you wouldn't have to touch each other.
Beverly, Age 9: I like that idea. Have you heard of scuba diving? It's just new.
Elliot, Age 9: Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.
Beverly, Age 9: Exactly.
Elliot, Age 9: [noticing girl on porch] Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Beverly, Age 9: Yeah, you ask her.
Elliot, Age 9: Raffaella, will you have sex with us in our bathtub? It's an experiment.
Raffaella: Are you kidding? **** off you freaks. I'm telling my father you talk dirty. Besides, I know for a fact you don't even know what **** is.
[retreats into her house]
Elliot, Age 9: [walking away] They're so different from us. And all because we don't live under water.

Claire Niveau: I have a feeling you do.

Ask Arrow for House 1 and 2. They have a deal with Image. I'm pretty sure they have those two.

Interesting response to someone's request for more obscure titles like Hellhole:

Recent examples of underperforming titles that would be considered obscure: SONNY BOY, WHITE OF THE EYE, HOUSE WHERE EVIL DWELLS, YOU'LL LIKE MY MOTHER, BLOOD AND LACE, WOMEN'S PRISON MASSACRE, R.O.T.O.R...just to name a few.

We truly urge people to spread the word to support these kinds of films. We love them too...but we do have to be mindful of sales greatly.
If there were any doubts, this explains the shape of the line right now. That said, I'd be interested to know how many copies Scream realistically hoped these types of films would sell, and what constitutes 'underperforming' in that regard. You'd hope the high-profile CE's would sell well enough to allow further gambles on obscure titles (still holding out for Burned at the Stake, Rolling Vengeance and Enemy Territory in particular). I don't expect we'll see any in October (unless we see the first reveals in the promised 'limited edition' line) but November and December could bring some (SDCC will be interesting), and the early months of the year are usually the period for 'lesser' fare.

I am guilty of "bucketlisting" Sonny Boy and Blood and Lace. I'll get them one of these days!

What would be their motivation for gambling at all? I mean, if they're making big profits on re-releases, why wouldn't they just ONLY do re-releases and the handful of big 80s/90s titles they can get, if these obscure things without star-power like Vincent Price or whatever are always a loss? I get why Criterion would, since they're a company that's dedicated to film preservation and exposure of art films, but Scream sure isn't.

they need to pick and choose more carefully their obscure titles then. I bought most of those and ended up selling them because they were just bad. I kept only Women's Prison Massacre because it looks cool but even that one was kinda disappointing.

It's an interesting question. I can only really think of two suggestions:

1) They might get lucky and hit upon something that sells better than they expected

2) As horror fans, they're willing to take the risk, either to please diehard fans or through the satisfaction of giving an obscure, previously-neglected title a solid release

There aren't many obvious options open to Scream at this point. They're getting their hands on some major MGM and Universal properties now and giving them lavish editions. Unless they get a deal with Paramount, it's impossible to see how they'll top this next year (CE's of The Burbs, Jaws 2-4?), especially at the rate they're going. If they're becoming increasingly reluctant to take a punt on 'lesser' MGM and Universal stuff (in particular pre-1970 titles), it's hard not to envisage a time soon where we're seeing only 1-2 'retro' titles a month, and more newer titles. This re-releasing of Universal and MGM titles can't last forever.

Unless they start re-releasing titles they've already released... You're kidding yourself if you think people wouldn't buy the same disc again to get a different slipcover. I don't think they would do it, although it appears they were thinking of something similar when they did that poll about steelbooks awhile back.

I had wondered if they'd given thought to going back to some of the bigger early releases (Halloween 2 and 3, They Live, Prince of Darkness, etc) and re-doing them. Hard to see how they'd top the extras, but new transfers could be on the agenda now. Of course, it's a big risk, as they'd probably piss off a good number of people who've previously bought these.

Releasing titles that no one asked for, like The House Where Evil Dwells, or odd arthouse-y stuff like White of the Eye, which already had an arguably better release overseas, is something indy labels will just have to take a risk on - they can't pin poor sales on the consumer. The consumer will buy what he/she craves and/or has the money for. There's a portion of the market that will buy anything out of loyalty but that portion is tiny. Truth of the matter is, these films have very small audiences, plus a good deal of fans don't even have a clue this stuff is even available. Not everybody does facebook or has an account on internet message forums. Personally, I live for obscure films on BD but even I won't buy everything.

I'm tired of replacing movies I already have on Blu, give me new titles I can upgrade from DVD.

Like what? The well is really dry. All we can really hope for is that they finally crack Lionsgate.

That is one of their best covers yet in my opinion. It's a good thing I bought my current copy for about $5. This will be a no-brainer upgrade for me with the 4K scan.
