Go ahead and laugh, but IMO good communication with that Streaming Server makes for a Solid Streaming Experience. I've had Symmetrical for a Decade and my Streaming is Rock Solid, even with Amazon Prime where everyone else seems to have problems!

Our road is currently being dug up for FTTP and they are trying to sell it to me. You can stream at 4K, download multiple games, and not suffer any buffering.

My reply, “I can do that already with my FTTC”.

“What if several members of your family use internet at same time”? “I live alone”.

What about VR and AI in the future, does that interest you? (Had a brief discussion and they know I love tech) “yes, it interests me but I don’t need my fibre to be any faster”.

He gave up.

Question about some my post and technical data. I have posted graphics showing the streaming data of a Netflix show to a PC. The graphics show the download and upload speeds. Anyone besides alchav21 have problems understanding what the numbers mean? If so, please post here or send me a PM and I will see if I can help. The same can be said for my digital locker test.

I watch/record ATSC 1.0 DTV quite a lot, one of the DTV channels packs 7 SDTV programs into their channel and the picture breakup is quite severe a lot of the time (I record the subchannel I want on VHS SLP which helps smooth out the picture breakup - I find a consistently soft picture easier to watch than one that alternates between clear and broken up).

I haven't seen any picture breakup watching shows on the HBOmax streaming service (I don't know what video codec they are using).

ATSC 1.0 DTV is locked into MPEG-2 for the video codec, what does picture breakup (due to the video data rate being too low for the content) look like with the newer (streaming service) video codecs (still little squares appearing momentarily)?

Dungeons & Dragons on P+ tomorrow. Should be in 4K DV/Atmos, as well.

That's too bad Steedeel, it's people like you that discourage ISP's from upgrading. Then tomorrow when you need that extra speed you won't be able to get it. That's what happened here in The States, people didn't want to pay for the upgrades. The ISP's stopped upgrading, now the people are crying because they are not being upgraded!

We are being upgraded, the entire postal code is being upgraded. Gradually, the entire city. However, I don’t need faster speeds. If I was seeing a bottleneck, I would consider it, but I’m not. I’m floating around like a ballet dancer in Call Of Duty, I am smooth as Messi in football games and I can download huge games in a matter of a few hours.

I can watch any form of streaming, including 4K, with zero speed issues, why would I want to pay extra?

Same here most of the time. As posted many times by me, the real speed problem with streaming video is not between the sub and the ISP, it is between the ISP and the CDN.

From about 4-½ years ago:

???, 119 via Fios
210, 33.5
300, 22
230, 19.13 via TV, 92.12 via Blu-ray player
75, 12.15
???, 58.87
300, 70
If one looks at the bandwidth in my digital locker test they will see most are < 200 Mbps. The ISP speed test was > 270 Mbps. In the US some CDN’s have added or going to add cache servers to the edge.

I believe some ISP’s are going to start implementing DOCSIS 4.0 sometime soon, 4.0 info here.

Fine, but these upgrades depend on paying customers hopefully your decision won't affect the upgrade of the city. These ISP's have a budget, and if they are not getting paying customers they will stop. Just remember Technology waits for no one, what you don't need today may be a necessity tomorrow!

So you want me to pay for it now incase I need it in 10,15 years? Nah, my budget goes towards discs and my HT, not some utopia where we suddenly get magical quality streaming wise and everyone has programmable robots and A.I assistance.

It just wouldn’t make sense to switch. I was already upgraded recently and I was already very happy.

PING is also excellent for all my gaming needs. Zero delay and super fast navigation of even the most occupied digital space.

All of this is in comparison to my dreadful 3Mbps pre-fibre days. Used to take several days to download a large game.

The bad news for streaming just keeps coming. The lawsuit alleges that Disney has hidden the true cost of the Disney+ platform and investors don't believe they can hit their profitability goal. Iger's desire to bring focus back to physical media seems to support this.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bu...ng-1235492180/

Quote:
From December 2020 to November 2022, Chapek and Daniel repeatedly misled investors about the success of Disney+ by concealing the true costs of the platform and the difficulty of maintaining robust subscriber growth in addition to claiming that it was on track to achieve profitability with 230 to 260 million paid global subscribers by the end of 2024, the suit claims.
Quote:
The suit points to the statement as evidence that Chapek’s comments on his reorganization were meant to mislead investors. It also argues that Disney’s fiscal second quarter earnings last week, which showed that Disney+ lost subscribers for the second quarter in a row, is further proof “confirming that the 2024 Disney+ targets had never been achievable.”

I bet if alchav21 could be switched to a true 25 Mbps DSL without him knowing about it he would never know the difference.

In early 2015 our cable service was 25 Mbps on a good day. I would start House of Cards in UHD and watch the video start in SD at fairly low bit rates then finally reach UHD @ 16 Mbps. Always took about 100 to 110 seconds to do this. Accessed using a Sony FMP-X10.

When one looks at the Nielsen's data (here) you can see why they intend to merge Disney+ and hulu. My money is on Comcast dumping their stake in hulu. Wonder how that will go over with Disney investors because that will be a tidy sum Disney will have to fork over.
