I read this last week about Paramount+ followed by a stock market sell trend.
It went from $22 to $16 in a day, now down to $15, seems like streaming is taking hits.
I think streaming has been unprofitable all along, many services have their profitable targets in 24/25.
I've always hoped for streaming to be a temporary age, I don't think it ever will be able to dominate, it needs the cinema.

In early 2015 our cable service was 25 Mbps on a good day. I would start House of Cards in UHD and watch the video start in SD at fairly low bit rates then finally reach UHD @ 16 Mbps. Always took about 100 to 110 seconds to do this. Accessed using a Sony FMP-X10.
Yeah, there was a time I couldn’t even get the HD offering on BBC IPlayer!

5Mbps was just too demanding!

The problem with streaming is that it relies on the world's internet infrastructure, something that it has absolutely zero control nor influence over.

There was a time when Netflix paid for faster (backbone ?) speeds. Don't remember the details.

Yeah, doesn't sound particularly healthy nor sustainable, then there's the lack of ownership, but we don't have to discuss that again, lol.

Hard to believe > 9 years have passed since I posted this:

Quote:
Even more stats:
  • For UHD material there is the Sony FMP-X1. Download only for rentals and ownership. Works ONLY in the US and ONLY with certain Sony 4K models. LG, Samsung, Panasonic, etc. 4K owners need not apply.
  • REDRAY and Odemax seem to be non starters.
  • Can not find a single person using a Nuvola NP 1.
  • Kaleidescape is the only service that claims to offer the same quality as a Blu-ray disc (including lossless audio). Purchased titles must be played on Kaleidescape hardware. No rentals.
  • Blu-ray disc and Kaleidescape* is the ONLY way to get frame packed 3D (full resolution).
  • NO streaming service offers lossless audio or frame packed 3D (full resolution). Most offer SbS or ToB 3D (half H or V resolution).
  • Only VUDU offers titles with 7.1 audio and after 2 years only has about 15 titles with 7.1 in DD+.
  • Many 2.35 movie titles on Netflix are cropped and zoomed or using a anamorphic transfer intended for a DVD. Many have 2 channel audio even tho the movie was done in 5.1 or 7.1. Amazon and VUDU has similar deficiencies to some of their titles.

Bottom line: for the best in 1080, Blu-ray disc and Kaleidescape is the only game in town. As of now Sony appears to be the only way to get UHD content and it is a very limited selection.

*Not 100% on this. Will have to ask Kaleidescape.
Some things have changed, some have not. Late that year purchased my 4K projector and followed with the Sony FMP-X10. Post here. Thread locked.

I managed to upgrade my Home Theater audio to 7.2.4 with speakers in the right places and now I have to watch everything all over again.

Most here do not have the reading comprehension problem that you have. My main reference was purely one of data rates, not the methodology of delivery.

Quite sometime back I asked you if the fiber cable to your house was single or multi mode and you did not have a clue what I was talking about.

Another to you. For levels, EQ and distance did you use the built-in speaker setup on your AVP or do a manual setup. Single point or multi point?

Have had my AVP for several years now and never tried the Auto speaker setup. Just did a level check of 6 stereo amps (oscillator and dB meter) and made sure gains were within .2 dB. May try the Auto to see how it compares with my manual adjustments.

My processor (Marantz 7702 MK II) has Audyssey MultEQ XT32 (PRO)

It has 8 point for measuring. It is too old to use the Audyssey App.

There is a known error in older Audyssey programs in distance measurement. (Multiply each of the speaker and subwoofer distances that were measured when running Audyssey by 0.875.) After Audyssey I have to manually set the front speakers to small and set all the crossovers to 80Hz.
I don't use the dynamic EQ or dynamic volume features. I prefer the "flat" profile to "reference"

I could be up for adventures in REW (Room EQ Wizard) at some point. It looks like a fun and useful program.
