BJ's Wholesale Club Media Rooms vs Home Theaters

A few home theater statistics that show media rooms are gaining in popularity.

https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...ter-statistics

My theater is certainly more "theater" than media room. Upstairs I have a TV for video game consoles.

I think I could get more from my smart lighting in the theater. I haven't looked into setting those up for a while.

I used to have my laundry appliances connected online but they txted me non stop giving me all kinds of unwanted information about my laundry habits and trends.

Have used REW, even donated to the cause. My goto is TrueRTA (1/24 version) here. Have looked into but never purchased Multi-Instrument Pro, here. Another prospect is Dayton Audio OmniMic V2 Acoustic Measurement System, here. Already have a calibrated measurement microphone so don’t need their package.

At work we had SpectraPLUS (here). After some success the guy went crazy on his pricing. No matter, we had Tektronix, HP, Fluke and Audio Precision audio test devices.

For those interested, I picked up my MadVR Envy Extreme MK2 today and was able to spend a few hours with it. Insane piece of gear, but have to finish setting it up tomorrow. Will report back once finished, but was able to see its benefits quickly after my efforts today.

The average person sits 9 feet from their display. At that distance, even VHS will look good

Will be interested in your thoughts on how it handles HDR, DV and aspect changes.

I'm happy that you finally got it.

It might even make streaming look Fantastic!...provided you have symmetrical hard wired internet for that Rock Solid connection.

Classic Vilya post! Funny you mention streaming, but I just finished the first season of Mayor of Kingstown and it was way better than I anticipated. Naturally, the second season is not an available on disc, so I almost grabbed an Apple TV to watch it. I started first season of Gangs of London and after three episodes, immediately looked for the second season on Blu-ray and it is only available as an import. So……these two shows are going to either push me to a region free Blu-ray or an Apple TV. Maybe I have a change of heart tomorrow, or some sort of visit to my dreams tonight guiding me either way.

Not in the U.K. it’s more like 7 feet, smaller living rooms generally.

I was working with Fiber back in the late '80's and '90's, and I remember talking to an Engineer about Single and Multi Mode Fiber both are used depending on the Application. I talked to one of our Support Fiber Tech, and here in our area because of the Services put on the Fiber it's Multi Mode with the larger core for more Data. So don't try to look so intelligent, and put people down I won't lower myself to that level!

Mayor of Kingstown is outstanding. Second season is almost as good as the first. We watched via Paramount+. I didn't realize there was a disc release of the first season but I will definitely pick it up.

I have never heard of Emma Laird before but she blew me away in a very very tough role. Have to say it is also my favorite Jeremy Renner character since Hurt Locker.

My copy of Brotherhood of the Wolf arrived today and I quickly devoured it on 4K disc. Wow, what a phenomenal 4K disc. It was a complete 4K rebuild and the beast was finally and properly integrated into the film. It no longer looks out of place or jittery. The French Dolby Atmos rocked. I speak of the Studio Canal edition. I am now watching the new interview with writer/director Chirstophe Gans which runs at a mind blowing 1hr 28mins.

This is one of the best 4K disc releases of the year, IMO!

I bought this stateside from OrbitDVD. The Shout Factory edition releases next week, but the Studio Canal edition also includes the theatrical cut, so this was a completist purchase. The subtitles are also properly intact.

The average size TV in the US is between 50" and 55". That makes a difference.

What a mess of BS.

1 - If you had known the difference to the question that I put to you quite sometime why did you not answer? Should have been obvious to anyone with any knowledge of fiber cables.

2 - “Larger core for more data”, now that is . Single mode and multi mode are both capable of very high data rates. The difference at 100 Gb: multi mode can go 330 feet, single mode can go > 6 miles (31,680').
