I agree that the script was good but here's my problem: while it's often eloquently written, the dialogue sometimes was very unrealistic because nobody talks in that poetic way. Now, when I used to dabble in screenwriting I was taught that when writing dialogue it shouldn't sound exactly like it does in life. That being said, there's a difference between dialogue that is well-written and seems realistic but probably wouldn't be, and dialogue that is almost too well constructed that it defies reality. Some people make that argument in regards to Juno, which is a different version in that it's the wit that people find unrealistic (note: I actually had no problem with the dialogue in that film).

It's not that I didn't like the film so much as I was disappointed by it because I think it could have been so much more. I really think that the conflicts that were developed could have led a very poignant and meaningful film, as opposed to essentially a jumbled uninvolving mess. And I can't get over the inconsistency of the directing. Some shots were stunningly created, but his unnecessary use of various techniques greatly detracted from the film imo.

Like I said, I really think this is a film that down the line I'll grow to like. I wasn't a huge fan of Atonement the first time I saw it, but then it stuck with me and now I think it's one of the great screen romances. I think it was also unlucky for this film that I saw Summer Hours only a few days before, which is much simpler but has very clear themes.
This may be an instance of "ignorance is bliss" for me. For better or worse, I'm not as familiar with the various screenwriting/directing techniques (i.e., I couldn't identify them while watching a film and say "that is X technique" or "this is Y screenwriting"), and as a result, am just going by a more raw emotional gauge (for both the plot/acting and direction). A "you know it when you feel it" standard...whatever that means I bet you are looking at how the film affects you emotionally also, but also have a stricter scorecard on the technical merits.

Taking Woodstock.

Wow, a very personal story, down to earth and a lot of heart. Great performances, but there's quite a few of hippie lines that are bit clichéd, but fitting though. I'm definitely buying this on Blu-ray.

8.5/10

Just saw Twilight Saga, Eclipse. 5/5

To tell right from the begining, I am not a girl, not a twilight fan, and have never read the book.

Before seeing the 3rd one I havent had really made up my mind weather I liked that franchise or not. But after seeing the 3rd one, well, I turned into Twilight fan.

The plot made sense, I cared for the characters and they were belivable, the conversation was smart and really emotional.

And best of all, it was a movie about love. Nowadays, very few movies are coming out with the subject matter of love, and this franchise is a really good move towards that direction, which was more popular a while ago.

I really dont understand all the critisism for this franchise. I dont remember a movie for a long time ago that captured my attention so badly, and I was really invested and cared for the characters.

So, why do people make fun of these movie?
If its because its about love story, supposely aimed at teenage girls (I am a boy, and my mother really enjoyed it too).
If thats the case, than thats really sad.
Really sad.

Toy Story 2 - This was also my first viewing of this film just like the first earlier in the week. I think I like this one a little bit more than the first one but not by a whole lot. Again the picture was beautiful and the sound was super crisp. The story was a bit better this time around and it was more adventurous than the first one. Also liked some of the added toys to this story especially the
[Show spoiler]2nd Buzz Lightyear toy.

This also falls short of Cars just as the first one but then again I am very high on Cars so it will be hard for any animated film to surpass it.

Film Rating - 3 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 5 stars (out of 5)

AQ - 5 stars (out of 5)

Moon

Sam Rockwell - most underappreciated actor possibly ever. i know that's a big assumption, but everything he's in he does a phenomenal job in, and Moon is no exception.

I've heard a lot of people say "Moon kind of feels like 2001" - probably because of
[Show spoiler]GERTY and how he is a lot like HAL and the isolation of the characters
in both films. but Moon is a different type of movie entirely. 2001 i believe is the "better" film (2001 is the greatest sci-fi movie i have ever seen, so of course it's "better") but Moon is the film i'm more likely to sit down and watch more often. i guess to put it best, it's an 'easier film to digest'.

the film is centered around Sam, who works for Lunar Industries, who is assigned to a base on the moon for a 3 year stint as he removes helium-3 which is now used as a source of energy on Earth. however, as simple (and probably "boring") as that sounds, the film quickly turns the audience on its head with a major twist that i had absolutely no idea was coming. most films have a big twist ending, Moon has a big twist in its opening act essentially that works as a catalyst for the rest of the film. and i won't say anything more because it would ruin the fun of the film.

after watching the film about 10 times now since it was released on BD in January, it seems to get more and more
[Show spoiler]depressing every time
. mainly because i already know what's going to happen and if you put yourself in Sam's shoes, it would be an absolutely devastating
[Show spoiler]to learn that you aren't exactly what you think you are.

one thing i must point out is the haunting score composed by Clint Mansell. a few times during a movie i have thought, "this is an excellent score / soundtrack" and then moved on with my day. but not for Moon. as soon as the movie ended, i bought the soundtrack, it's outstanding!

i kind of find it humorous how two of my favorite sci-fi movies are called Sunshine and Moon
just thought that was kind of neat.

Director Duncan Jones has stated that he would like Moon to be part 1 of a trilogy. while i was originally baffled as to why he would want to do this, if he is in charge and able to make what he wants to make, then i have all the confidence in the world. and with how the film ends, it certainly leaves itself open for a sequel. and i for one am excited.

4.5/5 FOR WHATEVER REASON, I JUST FEEL THAT I CAN'T GIVE A 5/5 TO MOON. THERE'S JUST SOMETHING BARELY (BARELY) MISSING, WHICH CAN'T ALLOW A "PERFECT" SCORE

As for the film, it flowed well from the start which I really liked as some films take to much time to develop. I have to say this film had one of the funniest moments that I have seen in a while. I absolutely cried laughing while

Glad you finally checked it out (and liked it) man!

Reynolds killed it in this movie, I love the guys comedic timing and performance. Hilarious stuff.

Betty White and Bullock were great as well.

As for your spoiler....

The funniest part for me was when
[Show spoiler]they were in the room and Reynolds just burst out singing It Takes Two

I had tears from laughing so hard.

You will probably like this one more with a repeat viewing or two. It grew on me, I always liked it, but not all that much. But with more recent repeat viewings it grew on me and is now up at a 4.5.

Have you seen his 10 minutes in Wolverine? He was hilarious there too. Can't wait for the full movie of him

_____

I watched Princess and the Frog tonight.

There was a couple things here and there that made me laugh, but I didn't like the actual movie at all. I was all set to give it bonus points for
[Show spoiler]leaving them as frogs at the end....but nope, they had to go the typical route of turning them back. Leaving them as frogs would have been different and a great way to differentiate itself from many movies.

Didn't like the songs in the movie, didn't care for the voice acting, did really care what the characters wanted or ended up getting. The villain was annoying. I particularly didn't like the firefly.

Note: Not everyone from Louisiana talk like that....In fact, I thought the majority of the voices were much stronger and thicker accents than most people actually have (though there are some who do indeed sound like the characters in the movie). John Goodman's character, for example, he had a strong dramatized accent I thought...even though Goodman is actually from Louisiana.

I was also shocked this movie got a G and not a PG what with the dark and evil magic portrayal of Voodoo and the villain's "friends on the other side".

Rating - 1/5

Yea it just wasn't for me.

The people I watched it with enjoyed it but I didn't like it at all.

I also recently watched The Little Mermaid (the girls picked the movie after having to watch so many of my buddy and my choices ) for the first time.

I hated it.

Rating would be a 0/5, didn't like one thing about it.

Give me Aladdin, Lion King, Hercules, Tarzan, etc. over that any day.

I haven't seen either yet. I really should. And honestly, no one should laugh at you, some romcoms are solid movies that are very entertaining

I really honest to god liked Valentines Day and Legally Blond, so I know what you mean. People can laugh, but I don't care, they made me laugh and I enjoyed them

Waterworld.

I may be a cult classic niche veiwer here on this one (had some bad reviews) but, this movie delivers a decent ride.

Sure it is improbable that Costner can do all that stuff and live but...are James Bond flicks any different?
I laugh at how critics are able to pick and choose which movies they 'allow' characters to get away with insurmountable odds.

Whatever, the movie is unique and has never been done with this premise before. The effects are solid and the on water action is super and great to look at.

Its better than any Mad Max imo and I am a big MM fan.
