While we’re on the topic of custom dcp’s, does the Imax version have any aspect ratio switching or is it in the scope ratio throughout just like the other versions?

The tragedy is that Legendary won't see a penny's profit on it after doing all the running on the film while Warners will: they bought out Legendary's 75% investment in the film with reportedly no profit participation.

Saw it last night. Basically, the story involving the humans was as dumb as a box of hammers, but the property destruction was exactly what I paid to see.

Actually it was the supposecdly sane adults who were stupid. The guy who acts crazy and the youngsters were smart. Kyle Chandler's comment on Godzilla's attack on the Apex complex in Pensacola was stupid. If Godzilla had turned bad he would have flattened all of Pensacola. Then you have the villianous female lead attacking Kong. How stupid was that.

"That is the discovery of the millennium, you can’t just strip it for parts."
"Actually, we can."

Quality writing right there. Though the whole subplot with analyzing the energy source was just weak. And then Godzilla blows a whole to the center of the Earth. Whatever gets Kong to Hong Kong, I suppose.

I think it would have flown more smoothly if, instead of Kong's axe depleting in energy, Apex swipes it and uses it to power Mechagodzilla (instead of the whole analyzing and downloading data thing). And then when Kong gets the axe back it's what starts causing MG to lose power instead of the whole drink thing. That sort of fixes a couple of dumb points.

Just can't think of another way to get Kong to Hong Kong without it adding another half hour to the film though. At least we got a cool shot of Godzilla out of it.

Kong: Hollow Earth (final title, cause it matches Kong: Skull Island's title) - original idea is much original all mine yes. Main points for this film would be to explore the Hollow Earth, with one side wanting to respect it and another side wanting to exploit it. Eventually the latter side does unleash a great evil monster that would completely destroy the surface world, and Kong is the best thing that could stop it in time. A original monster since Warner wouldn't want to lose money or Japan distribution rights for a Toho character.
Some key things I would want to see pop up in this one would be the Hollow Earth civilization, we know they existed once and perhaps they still do. And I think they should be pretty large humanoid race but I don't want it too be too similar to the aliens in James Cameron's Avatar. Maybe titan people? A attack on titan people?
Most of the film should take place within the Hollow Earth but the final showdown should make it to the surface, bringing Kong back above ground one more time, preferably in a more unique location.
I really toyed with the idea of introducing the Son of Kong, moreso of a homage to Son of Godzilla with Kong becoming the adoptive father. But it would be too tricky to explain where a infant Kong came from, plus Kong is already acting as the adoptive father for Jia. Probably best to just drop that idea.

Godzilla: Save the Earth (pending title, but I already dub phase two as the Earth trilogy so it may work). Ultimately a homage to Banno's Godzilla vs Hedorah. My idea is that Hedorah started off as a invention to consume waste (with a easter egg being that a alien spore was used to make it) but it goes out on control with the waste changing it into a deadly giant monster. Godzilla has been chasing Hedorah around but he can't seem to stop it. All of this would be explain in typical MonsterVerse opening credits with the movie actually starting a few months after Hedorah has already rose and made several cities uninhabitable. I want this to sort of harken back to 2014's Godzilla with it being more of a grim and dark film. I think it could also reflect a bit on the covid situation, with parts of the world near Hedorah's landings being fairly toxic and characters having to wear full body gear to search for answers.
My vision for the first big scene is a group of characters searching around "ground zero" where Hedorah first rose looking for some clue on how to stop it. One remarks "it's starting to rain" while the other one is looking at the sky. "It's not rain, and that's no cloud". Hedorah (in flying form) is above the city and raining down to form its amphibious form. What started off like rain turns into boulders of sludge dropping out of the sky as Hedorah's body slowly forms in the city. I just really like that visual.
Godzilla is pretty pissed off in this film, and he's covered in white burn areas where Hedorah has attacked him. His spines have also started to turn a bone white, serving as a homage and a plot point that his energy is depleting from chasing Hedorah around so much. He's weaken but he won't give up.
Ultimately, Hedorah is mankind's responsibility. "If Godzilla dies, if the Earth dies, it's our fault". And it would be up to the human characters to find a way to take down Hedorah, with Godzilla being the one to finish it off. Needs to be different from how it went down in the 1970's film though. I don't want this film to be too preachy with its environmental message though. That was one of the criticisms of KOTM.

Godzilla vs Kong Part II (not final title, but maybe final title should also use the word Earth). Even though Hedorah has been defeated, the Earth is dying, with most of the monsters from the Hollow Earth coming to the surface to take over a harsh apocalyptical world. The surviving members of the human race consider retreating into the Hollow Earth as the only means of survival. One group attempts to, only to be stopped by Godzilla who seems to be guarding the entrances to Hollow Earth, no longer trusting mankind to care for another world. It is a big question with the survivors if they even deserve another chance, being that they were the ones that destroyed the planet. The ones who have already settled in the Hollow Earth look to Kong for help, who seems more willing to give mankind a second chance. It leads to a second confrontation between Godzilla and Kong, a fight not to determine who is the alpha titan, but the survival of the human race.
Godzilla still overpowers Kong, but Kong will not back down and allow Godzilla to destroy the humans who have fled to the Hollow Earth. Ultimately Kong does manages to convince Godzilla to return to the surface and leave mankind at peace in his world. After generations, the world of monsters, ruled by Godzilla, slowly begins to heal.

Not that any of it means a thing and I just wasted twenty minutes typing all of this. But sometimes dreaming is fun.
Hollow Earth is doomed if they continue this. You see what they did to Skull Island. Destroted it and killed the inhabitants save 1 who had to be saved by Kong.

As for Godzilla, I would love to see a monster arise from the oxygen destroyer that the military used in King of the Monsters. It was experimental and what if it created a monster that can destroy the oxygen.

They could decide to do a reboot if they decide to continue. Ghidorah is dead. Mothra is dead. There is a lot of chaos that has to be undone to continue with this storyline.

Kyle Chandler's character was an idiot in King of the Monsters, so at least they're keeping him consistent.

The whole thing about him wanting to kill Godzilla because his son died in the San Francisco battle never made sense to me. He knows there were two others titans involved in that right? Unless Godzilla personally stepped on their house or something, I don't get it.

I know everyone says that Vera Farmiga's character was the dumbest character in KotMs, and they're right, but that whole damn Russell family was the weakest part of that film for me. (I don't dislike KotMs by the way)

Saw it last night at a drive-in.

Overral, I liked the film and loved the fights. But I thought it skimped a bit much on the characters and I hated that they wasted Serisawa's son.

I would give it a 8.5/10 (4 for the poll)

Ranking of the Monsterverse:

-KOTM
-Kong
-2014
-GvK

Deadline mentioned that Legendary still gets a distribution fee from WB (apart from $120M investment recoup), but there's no estimate given.

The soundtrack for GvK is good but not great, KOTM to me had the far superior soundtrack. Bear Mccreary was an awesome choice.

Desplat remains unmatched but Junkie XL did a good job here. Loved the synth music that played whenever Kong was roaming in the monster world.

Just finished this up and man what a disappointment it was. The structure was set up decently but then it devolved into the typical paranoia and conspiracy theory which just so happened to include the offspring of a main character to achieve emotional weight while ripping off PACIFIC RIM and making H.A.L. 9000 look like a "god" in comparison. It looks good and the soundtrack isn't bad (and that's coming from a big Junkie XL fan) but this was so uninspired. Skull Island and King Of The Monsters are fun but Godzilla 2014 is far and away the best of this series so far.

Just saw this in IMAX and I feel like viewing it that way probably made me like it more than if I just watched it at home. I liked it better than King of the Monsters and Skull Island but still prefer the first one in this series (2014 Godzilla).

I noticed someone must’ve updated the technical specs on imdb, because it lists 1.90:1 (aka completely filling the screen from top to bottom, with no black bars) for the Imax version.

Is this accurate?
