That's was an incredibly boring opening night for football. Tonight's TCU-Baylor game should be a good one. Baylor has improved and has the fastest player in college football in quarterback Robert Griffin and he should be back to 100% after tearing his ACL in 2009. TCU has to replace QB Andy Dalton and six defensive starters so I wouldn't be shocked if Baylor pulled off the upset.

I just read that Texas A&M is leaving, guess I am behind the news! I kinda will miss them since the Sooners always whip their butts, I will never forget that 77-0 shutout that the Sooners gave! The biggest loss in Texas A&M history!

Like most days as of late, Friday hasn't been the best day for the Big 12. Earlier in the day Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel said what many people are thinking by placing the blame for the conference's problems on commissioner Dan Beebe, and on Friday evening Oklahoma president David Boren didn't do much to douse the fire of Oklahoma possibly leaving the Big 12 for another conference.

Boren talked to The Oklahoman's Travis Haney, and basically said that he has no idea what the future of the Big 12 or Oklahoma holds.

“It’s too early yet to know exactly what the outcome will be," said Boren. "Our main responsibility will be protecting the interest of the University of Oklahoma, do what’s in the best long-term interest of the university and our athletics department and the fans. That’s what we’ll attempt to do to. Beyond that, while we haven’t been saying much publicly – frankly, on purpose, because we’re at the sensitive point of discussions among schools. Too much said in public reduces success of our goals rather than enhances it.

“We have to study the best options for ourselves and not lock ourselves into a course of action until we know what’s best for the university. We’re heavily involved. I don’t know how long it will be before clarity comes to us. My experience is that, in these kinds of things, it might be a matter of 72 hours, it might be a matter of two weeks. I don’t really think this is something that’s going to linger on beyond two or three weeks, from the outside. This has been consuming my life the last few days. It’s a fascinating challenge. We’re just in the search for what’s best for the university."

Doren also went on to say that other conferences are interested in Oklahoma, though he did not say anything about Oklahoma being contacted by anyone. He also said that Oklahoma is exploring all its options.

“At this point in time, I’ll be very honest with you in saying I do not know with certainty, or perhaps even can’t hazard a totally intelligent guess as to what our final decision will be. But we are carefully looking over all the options."

It's been speculated in recent days that one of those options would be the Pac-12 as it is considering becoming the Pac-16 by adding Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech. Of course, the SEC has been rumored to be interested in Oklahoma before as well, though I'm not sure the Sooners would make that move without Oklahoma State. Which means the SEC would then have to add a 16th school.

Of course, as Doren said, nobody can be sure what's going to happen in the Big 12 over the coming days, weeks and months. But it's somewhat hard to deny that dark clouds seem to be forming overhead.
That potential Pac-16 conference would be a monster!

On a local radio program they made a good point the other day. They were discussing college basketball versus football. More or less their point was how important it is to be in a top-tier conference in football, but in basketball it can hurt rather than help. In football you essentially have to be in an elite conference to make the championship game and making even a BCS game is hard coming out of a small conference. Yet in basketball it can be beneficial. A team can make the NCAA tourney even with a mediocre record in a crappy conference. Some of them even make it deep into the tourney, such as Memphis and Butler (twice) in the title game and George Mason in the Final Four. And that won't change so long as the morons that run college football (and get rich off of it) cling to archaic forms of determining a national champion.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel. With the landscape pointing towards several big conferences that will basically set up a playoff format for us. It's just a damn shame it has taken this long to start to head in that direction.

I cannot believe how good Baylor is looking tonight. I knew the qb was really good but they have a receiver, Wright who is number #1, and he is a beast tonight. He is really fast too.

LOL yeah he's like 16-for-19, 325 yards passing, 5 TDs.

TCU is gonna drop out of the top 25 and never be heard from again. This is turning into a good ol' fashioned Texas ass whoopin'

I just wish the media would spend half the time covering the BCS scandals as they do the player/school scandals. These scandals involving players are usually involving relatively small amounts of money/merchandise. But the corruption involving BCS officials, namely the Fiesta bowl, involve hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars. These crooked BCS parasites are living in luxury from their positions of power, yet it's under-covered. Hopefully the whole rotten system collapses soon, but I'm not counting on it. They always find a way of keeping the same ugly system in place with only minor tweaks.

This game is a freakin' classic! It's gonna be an ESPN instant classic and it's opening weekend and the friday night game to boot! What a game. I feel bad for those who haven't been watching. It has turned into a track meet. Should be a great finish.

Embarrassed to say but I didn't realize it was on tonight. Just turned it on. If it's as great as you say I'll just catch a replay.

TCU had to have a long undefeated streak coming in since they went undefeated in 2010.

Wow, the Baylor QB has 5 TD, 0 Int 359 yards passing. And I'd never heard of the guy Robert Griffin.

TCU went undefeated in the regular season the last two years, but they lost their bowl game two years ago to Boise State by a score of 17-13 or so.

They also had the best overall defense in the nation the last two years... but I can already predict that that streak is gonna go out the window, too.

Ridiculous all-around game. TCU's kick returner had 225 yards returning. Both teams were going up and down the field from the get-go. The score was like 27-23 only a few minutes into the 2nd quarter. Baylor went up 47-23 and then TCU in a span of 10 minutes in the 4th quarter mounted a 25-point comeback. Three missed PATs, two missed field goals total... no turnovers until the two in the last 6 or 8 minutes... and after all of that, a FG finally wins it.
