Duel is fantastic. You can already see how masterful Spielberg was back then.

Just the way he sets up certain scenes. Incredible.

You won't be disappointed.

Picked up Vanilla Sky 4KBD yesterday at Best Buy.

I only had the original BD, so this will be a nice upgrade. The BD it comes with is the Paramount Presents version. Surprised this doesn't have Dolby Atmos though. It's nice seeing more and more titles come out on 4KBD, maybe I can start getting behind the format now.

I ordered that too. I like both versions of this film.

I have quite a few Penelope Cruz films because Pedro Almodovar is one of my favorite directors.

Makes for good test patterns too. If Penelope Cruz looks delicious you have your display set up correctly.

I love replacing Blu Ray editions with UHD BD. The UHD BD often comes with a fresh and sometimes remastered blu ray and digital copy I can share with my kids. What's not to love?

I use the collection feature here and it keeps tabs on what I have on Blu that is available on UHD BD.

Just to be clear, though, Alejandro Amenábar directed Open Your Eyes. Pedro Almodovar had nothing to do with this movie.

is the most recent film directed by Pedro Almodovar that starred Penelope Cruz.

I will take a well made 3D blu-ray over a well made 4K UHD blu-ray every time and especially when we are talking about James Cameron 3D blu-ray. I find a great 3D presentation to be far more engaging than any 4K disc that I have seen.

Sadly, when it comes to James Cameron and 4K discs he has a spotty record. Terminator 2 definitely comes to mind and there is quite a bit of contention about the first Avatar on 4K disc. Some are complaining that he made Avatar look like a video game on 4K disc with excessive over sharpening ham-handily applied by an automated algorithm left to run amok.

There are also complaints that he changed either the opening, or the ending, of Avatar in some manner to promote the sequel aka: Indigenous Smurfs Learn to Swim.

It costs money for distribution rights, it costs money for hosting. subscription streaming (or even any other renting) has always had roll over.

But the reality is that as long as subscriber ship was going up (with a big boost due to covid and people going stir crazy locked at home) investors were willing to over look how badly of a money suck it is for them. But now people are rationing their subscribership and that means the fantasy that you can grow to profitability has disappeared and companies are starting to try and cut costs.

if something is important to you buy it on physical media. Obviously if a show is axed, it is gone but old stuff will just, like the tide, come in and go out and....

I like 3D and a couple of years ago, I would agree. These days, 4K is the first choice for me. 3D only truly excelled with Golden Age titles like Inferno, House Of Wax, It Came From Outer Space and The Bubble, etc..
depth in modern films is fine but I prefer 4K for the detail and just being closer to the source. Watching Apocalypse Now in 4K a few days back was glorious for example.

Mind you, I might change my mind if I sample Avatar 2 in 180% 3D on the Apple vision pro, with a lovely, peaceful beach as a background.

For one thing, not every show I like is available on physical media, and for another, most DVDs would be out of print by now and are very hard to find and very expensive.

You specifically mentioned Ren & Stimpy and you can readily buy a 5 season set of it on DVD for only $19.49 at Amazon. It took me literally seconds to find it and it is dirt cheap at $4 per season.

The complete 9 seasons of Rugrats on DVD is just $27.41, also at Amazon. Super easy to find and almost a giveaway averaging just $3.05 per season.

If you put minimal effort into looking you will find that many TV shows on DVD are easy to locate and are often very affordable. DVD remains the top selling physical media format by far and lots of TV shows are available on it.

Agreed. Eventually the licensing costs are going to add up, they will have to continue raising rates; and with people seeing smaller raises, inflation and other economic issues, people will start cutting unnecessary costs like entertainment. Either that or they've got to start dropping content that gets low views.

I can think of some cartoons that are not on DVD or Blu-ray in a complete series set:

Aladdin the series
Time Squad
The Incredible Hulk (1996)
Jungle Cubs
Johnny Bravo
X-Men : Evolution

Need I say more?

You don't have to say more. If you are worried something won't be available online get it on disc.

Or, try something new there's so much stuff.

I'm just pointing out the fact that some of my favorite shows are taking way too long to be released on DVD an/or Blu-Ray in complete series sets. So in the mean time, streaming services like Disney plus and Max are my only option.

No one gets everything that they want. We all have our wishlists. Not everything is on disc and not everything is on streaming services, either. Kinda why many of us use both.

I was able to find the last four items on your list in other countries. Owning a region free disc player is very affordable and it greatly expands your ability to find what you want. Importing is often reasonable in cost, too.

I can only assume that you jumped on the chance to buy Ren & Stimpy and the Rugrats, right? You're welcome.

I already got Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy on DVD, I'm just concerned about other show that are not on DVD or Blu-ray disappearing on streaming platforms.

That will always be an issue. The best thing we can do is support the existing DVD and Blu-ray releases so the studios see that it would be profitable to release more shows on disc.
