![]() On my modest set-up I can watch all that you can and so very much more. You're the one who is arbitrarily limiting your selection. It is amusing that your comment implies that streaming is such poor quality that not even a high end system can help it. Don't waste your money on good gear just to feed it junk food, eh? Maybe you have a valid point after all. ![]() |

I recently hit 300 discs in my collection. I only started collecting in 2021 and never expected my collection to grow so quickly. It actually took me longer to get to 100 discs than it did to get from 200 to 300. With all the talk of physical media dying, I'm just glad that stuff that interests me is still being released and hope to support it for many years to come. I'm going to Taiwan next week where I plan to get around a dozen releases with exclusive slipcovers.

the difference is that (unless we are talking 4k Kaleidescape) "digital" won't be anywhere near UHD BD. So someone that cares about presentation )on any system) will pick the best source and someone that does not care about quality can watch any of them and consider them similar even though they are not. |

At any rate, I can't speak to anyone's preference for either director's vision... but I'm reasonably sure that your characterization of the movie's colour pallette boils down to your display. IMHO opinion the first disc's transfer is absolutely reference quality on delivering the true promise of what HDR/DV is supposed to be about. On a lesser display, the movie will look grey, dull and exhibit crushed blacks. While my setup is not bleeding edge, with tone mapping done externally, the depth of colour gradations and shadow detail on this title are absolutely face melting.... and don't get me started on the ATMOS sound... I recently upgraded to 6 overhead channels..I just talked myself into the next title I have to revisit ...LOL.. |

Have a humble 5.1.2 system. I was hesitant about upgrading from a 7.2 amp to a 7.2 amp, but remembered that like 5 percent of the content I consume is in Atmos or DTS:X. Older movies, I will almost always pick the legacy audio tracks.

At the very minimum, it is crucial that your bed layer speakers, whether 5,7 or 9 channels have their tweeters at the same height - right around ear level. Going A/T meant that i could even get my center channel aligned as well. Too many people try to simply add height channels to an existing system where they had elevated surround channels. No amount of room correction software will allow such a setup to achieve the 3D bubble of sound that you will forever chase once you hear it for the first time. Object based sound is not about gimmicky sound effects coming from above you. It is about placing sounds within your room where you don't even have speakers. I also belive firmly in having identical tweeters for all channels in order to have seamless panning. Ideally that would mean 13 identical speakers which was not possible in my case. Thankfully my Paradigm monitors do all have the same tweeters. |

You have said on more than one occasion that you can not even tell the difference between 4K HDR streams and high definition streams. I can quote you yet again if it is really necessary. You also do not own a 4K disc player nor do you own any 4K discs, so you are in no position to say that streaming quality "is right up there with disc." It's a comparison that you can not even make and there is no reason for you to try when 4K streaming and HD streaming look the same to you. You remind me of this quote: "A nod is as good as a wink...to a blind horse." You certainly can not judge audio as you rely entirely upon either TV speakers when watching with others or using wireless headphones when watching solo. There's also something inherently funny about you using anything wireless as much as you insist upon everything else being hard wired. You do not need a high end system to appreciate the differences between streaming and physical media, either. The quality of the source material is obviously important on any level of A/V system used. Most of us want to get the best results possible from the gear that we have and that starts with using the best quality source; "junk in" pretty much results in "junk out" on any A/V system. As for the last sentence in your comment that is just another way of saying that ignorance is bliss. I much prefer the happiness that comes from knowledge being power. Ad free streaming will be the most expensive thing and there will be additional charge for anything new. Streaming will cost more than disc without providing the quality, reliability or ownership.
