Thought I would share with you all part of my office space. On the left is the Zappiti NAS server, under it is a Synology DS-220j with a 1TB SSD used only as a music server. Next to the laser printer is a Synology DS-440j (3 2TB drives), it is used for data storage and video server. Two 4TB disk drives used to store edited A/V programming is connected to the DS-440j. To the right of my desk is a Windows 10 Pro PC, a second 2TB drive is used for recording DVB-S2 satellite programming and other video uses. This drive is shared (UPnP [DLNA] & SMB) so all the media players on the LAN can use it.

Very nice gear, but the room with its blank white walls looks too sterile. It needs some fuzzy blacklight posters, or movie posters, or funko pops, or something, to give the room some personality.

I have this obsession with grand pictures of Sirens luring fishermen and ship members to the rocks with their beautiful sounds. Don’t know why, it’s just always enchanted me. Think it’s the mystery of the ocean and the enchanting but deadly creatures of the sea. So, that’s where I’m going in terms of wall art over the next few months.

Random post I know, but just wanted to share.

Disney Disney makes a mistake

Disney has become a haunted mansion and is trying to charge it's fans to infinity and beyond.

But these aren't my words. I read this today in the Wall Street Journal.

Quoted from the article ...

Is Disney a haunted mansion? Squishy earnings. Writer and actor strikes. Indiana Jones bombed, and Marvel is mostly milked. But these are nothing compared with the age-old trap Disney has voluntarily walked into: When growth stops, raise prices to make up for lower volume.

The company’s earnings release last week says it all: “Lower affiliate revenue resulted from a decline in subscribers, partially offset by higher contractual rates.” And after losing subscribers, Disney raised Disney+ and Hulu ad-free streaming prices 20% last week. You can’t raise prices to infinity and beyond. Consumers eventually break.

That one will definitely be a rental to see if worthy of purchase because it was directed by James Mangold. Have Cop Land and 3:10 To Yuma both directed by Mangold, Land is good, 3:10 almost unwatchable in places because of handheld cameras.

I received a Region B German import of a Humphrey Bogart movie that I have long wanted:

The Left Hand Of God

"Fleeing the clutches of a Chinese warlord in 1947, American flyer Jim Carmody dons the robes of a recently murdered Catholic priest and makes his way to a remote village. Arriving at the local mission, "Father O'Shea" is pressed into service by the needy people. His plight is complicated by a beautiful nurse, who believes she is committing a mortal sin by falling in love with a man of God."

I am a big Bogie fan, so retiring my VHS copy that I taped off of cable TV decades ago in exchange for this blu-ray should make for a revelatory upgrade.

Liked Cop land and loved 3:10, but shakey cameras don’t bother me. I think Ben Foster stole the show in Yuma. Just remembered that Mangold also directed Ford vs Ferrari which was outstanding in my mind, and he also did Logan which was better than any previous attempt with that character I thought. Hell, I even enjoyed Knight and Day as well as Identity. I have them all but identity is on dvd so not sure that counts as much.

For Jason Statham fans, rented Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and will procure add to the collection.

ADD: The Blu-ray had a pretty good Atmos track.

Default "The Hahn Theater"

Sound and Vision had a good Interview on this Home Theater, and I'd like to know how many of you aspire for that perfect Home Theater Experience? If Projection Display with a matching Sound System is the ultimate presentation is that a true Disc Collectors Dream? This HT also had Kaleidiscape System to get that perfect Bit for Bit Presentation. If this is the ultimate what would be the bare minimum!

The 4K disc is great. I rented from GameFly, but am waiting for a price drop.

An avalanche of titles arrived today! 32 all at once! This has got to be a personal record. There are so many that I put them behind spoilers:

and

The Kino Lorber edition of The Big Country reportedly fixes a stretched image problem with the earlier MGM edition.

Long Day's Journey Into Night (2018) is a 3D title.

I'm surprised that with a collection as big as yours you've never got more than 32 in one day.
