One lonely title came today:

This is another "VHS recording taped off of who knows what cable channel?" upgrade. I seem to remember liking this movie. I hope I remembered right.

Prime is the worst with their ad bombardment for additional "channels" that each come with their own monthly fee.

Only movie I bought so far today was under $2 from the second hand store.

Felt good to buy a Disney disc given the recent announcements of more titles coming to disc.

Been watching a lot of Pixar stuff lately esp Cars.

I know some Shield Pro users replaced their launchers but I never followed through doing that to mine. Some favorites here.

Just bought a used copy of The Lone Ranger BD. I think it's an underrated western from Disney and I am a Gore Verbinski fan, so it works out.

I fired up Ahsoka and noticed that Atmos wasn't showing up. I had recently went to the ad based plan via my subscription bundle and after Googling it, it appears that if you have the D+ ad plan, you DO NOT get Atmos at all. Screw that noise, I went back and went to the ad-free plan I had before, so we now have glorious Atmos once again!

Have that one as well. The William Tell Overture sequence at the end is a riot.

From the Digital Bits:

Quote:
Of the titles discussed in the clip, the original Avatar has now been released in 4K Ultra HD. Which means, there are still three James Cameron films that—if all goes well in authoring and replication—should hit 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc right around the end the year: The Abyss, True Lies, and Titanic. That last one is obviously a Paramount title, and our sources indicate that Paramount is likely to announce that one first. The thing to know about these is that Lightstorm is involved in each of them, so the A/V quality and extras should be exactly as Cameron wishes them. We’re hearing, for example, that they should all be released on UHD-100 discs. And once those titles are done and out, we’re hearing that Cameron’s Aliens is likely to be next on deck for 4K release in 2024.

The Abyss will be preordered the moment it goes up for sale. Possibly THE title I want more than any other.

Alphabetized, audited and re-organized my movies and have room for more before I have to consider more shelves.

I keep DVDs, 3D only discs, TV Series and oversized packaging separate from my main collection. Each of those catagories is a small collection that can go in it's own space.

I'm going to go listen to the just released version of Time from Roger Water's bitter reworking of the Dark Side of the Moon in ATMOS. I don't expect to like it but I have to investigate and see what he's done now.

Yep, The Abyss and Alive (the survival film) are my most wanted. 4K for both preferably.

Speaking of Alive, looks like Netflix is releasing their own version of that film directed by J.A. Bayona.

I haven't seen ALIVE since opening night in the theater. I remember being blown away by the crash scene! I'm amazed that I've never owned this title on any format.

That having been said, I'm now even more excited to see this newer movie..

I don't watch trailers but the IMDB listing shows that the release will be in Spanish, ATMOS and an extra wide aspect ratio... Im all in

Feds Bust Up ‘Conspiracy’ to Fix DVD, Blu-ray Disc Prices on Amazon Marketplace

Quote:
Five individuals and four companies have been sentenced for participating in a conspiracy to fix the prices of DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs sold on the Amazon Marketplace, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee announced Aug. 24.

A federal investigation led to a total of six individual guilty pleas and four corporate guilty pleas.

Victor Btesh of New York was sentenced to 18 months’ incarceration, followed by two years of supervised release, and a fine of $38,000. Btesh’s three companies — Michelle’s DVD Funhouse, MJR Prime, and Prime Brooklyn — were each respectively sentenced to criminal fines of $156,520, $125,688, and $61,844 on Aug. 23, 2023, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Last month, Emmanuel Hourizadeh, Raymond Nouvahian, Morris Sutton, Bruce Fish, and Fish’s company, BDF Enterprises Inc., were all sentenced on July 21, 2023, also in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. Hourizadeh, and Nouvahian, both of New York, were sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, seven months’ home confinement, a criminal fine of $55,000 each, and two years of supervised release. Sutton, of New Jersey, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, five months’ home confinement, a $20,000 criminal fine, and two years of supervised released. Fish, of Minnesota, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, six months’ home confinement, a $48,750 criminal fine, and two years of supervised released. And Fish’s company, BDF Enterprises, was handed down a $234,000 criminal fine.

BJ's Wholesale Club Would you like Ads with that ?

Streaming services try to coax people into watching ads.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bu...rs-1235572459/

"The changes, put together, serve to make the ad-supported tiers more appealing to consumers. Even in the cases where ad tiers’ prices rose, the bigger hikes at their ad-free counterparts are meant to make the cheaper option look like an even better deal."

Disney jumped head first into an empty pool. They say streaming is the future but we need our customers to pay for it by watching ads. Some will but I'm old school enough to not be willing to pay to watch ads. Ads are for stuff that is free to me like Tubi. I actually have a free service without ads - Kanopy.

Watching the billionaires panhandling can be entertainment of it's own.

Meanwhile - "Shares of Walt Disney (DIS.N) fell 3.9% on Thursday, closing at their lowest level in nearly nine years, with some investors betting that a further price drop is on the cards in the next few months."

We were promised those juicy, plump, delicious looking burgers with all the trimmings and we got a soggy bap with a shrunk economy burger and some withered lettuce.

Kanopy is great, you just have to have a library card from a library system that subscribes to the service. Not all do.

Just finished searching and found a library in Brevard NC that does. Will go and signup there on our next visit to Brevard.

May need to add a Roku Express to the wife's exercise room because the Sony BD player does not have that app and the old Vizio smart TV is slow as molasses.
