Do the Fast Forward or Next Chapter buttons work?

I can’t remember the last time I saw an ad on any disc. Maybe a couple of years and even then it was a one off.

Alchav must have had a remote with broken fast forward, next chapter, and menu buttons.

It's the only explanation I can think of as to why he thinks all discs have unskippable ads.

Somtime back I asked the folks that has alternative firmware for the Oppo 203 if I purchased and installed could I skip the warnings on disc and the answer was no.

My Zappiti NAS copies disc using .ISO file, when you select a title a pop-up comes up and ask if you want the Menu - Yes or No. If you select No then it starts playing the title, if you select Yes then it acts pretty much like the disc including not being able to skip warnings.

I have redone several titles using MakeMKV on my PC and I select only the main content to copy. When I select a title done with this method there is no pop-up, title just starts playing.

He doesn't know what he's talking about, as usual. He probably has not bought a disc in nearly a decade and he rarely if ever watches one.

He makes it sound like discs are filled with car insurance and drug company ads. The discs that do have ads are just entirely skippable movie trailers. Either the menu or the chapter skip buttons will allow these to be avoided with ease.

Discs from boutique labels, like Criterion, Arrow, Kino Lorber, Shout, Olive, Classic Flix, and numerous others never have front loaded trailers. Even Warner Archives discs don't have them.

I do not see front loaded trailers on 4K discs, either, or at least not very often. A lot of my more recent studio released blu-rays are free of them, too, either that or I am just reflexively skipping them. It's that easy to do.

He should really stick to speaking about things that he knows and uses.

It's been far too long since I've visited the UK ( was meant to be in Scotland right now but plans have been put off for a year) but your posts often have me thinking that you'd fit in better over on this side of the pond somewhere in the south where my dad is from.... you've got that blood and guts, Charlie Heston kind of passion that has my kids refusing to go there despite me having a place to stay free of charge in Florida.. LOL...

Should make for an eye opening trip next year... anyways we're vacationing in the peaceful Belle Provence currently...

The blood and guts comes from North East England. We are straight talking but respectful people who have a reputation as warm, helpful folk. (Even to Scots these days!)

The Scots and us get the same windy, overcast weather as we are quite close, and we are both quite straight talking folk. We are also used to cold, biting winds!

I am staying in a castle that played a strategic role in the England/Scotland border wars this December with family. It’s near Northumberland, which is a beautiful part of the North East. The Castle is in Chillingham (naturally called Chillingham castle) and has some fantastic but quite disturbing history.
We are been taken on a 2 hour tour around the supposedly haunted castle, including the famous woods outside the courtyard, where many Scots were hung from the centuries old trees. Our guest room has views of the courtyard and gets especially eerie in the evening, as does the bedroom, which is said to be haunted by a young boy who was bricked up inside the wall.
Nearby, they also have famous wild cattle that are untouched and the most ancient cattle in the world. (they look it)
If you ever want to venture even further than Scotland, I would recommend an overnight stay. It’s not cheap but it’s very worthwhile.

Maybe do a Google search and see what you think?

By the way, enjoy your current vacation!

IMHO Hugo is one of the better 3-D titles so will pass on the UHD version.

Thumbs up

@ gotmule

Watched Identity last night with the 5.1 LPCM selected for audio. Engaged the DSU and it was quite effective for this sound track.

No Hard Feelings has a VERY interesting scene in it.

Over the past 6 days these titles arrived:

and two ideas that I got from Wendell:

I set a personal record this month; I ordered 118 titles! 13 of them are yet to arrive. I'll have to let my wallet cool off next month.

That is some haul even by your standards.

Some in your collection reminded me that I had Metropolis on LD, really liked the music track by Giorgio Moroder. Time to look into importing Neverending Story on UHD BD again.

Nice haul.

I’m awaiting some naughty films and some random Blu-ray pick ups (The Lure, 300, Beau Is Afraid and The Power). Nothing on the 4K horizon at moment except that Hellraiser boxset pre order. Duel hits in November. Considering a 4K purchase of Sisu.

Nice. Let me know what you think of Touch of Evil. Currently have the Kino 4k but couldn't resist pre-ordering the Eureka set.

I own the Kino edition set and thought it was great. I'm curious to see how Eureka's stacks up.
