Here is an update about my situation placed behind spoilers, as usual, for those that would like to know. You won't like what you are about to read.

[Show spoiler]I had four appointments over the last 8 days of August (and I already have five for the month of September so far). The most consequential of these was when I saw my cardiologist on August 23rd.

We discussed whether or not I was a candidate for a heart transplant. He told me that I was not and that the transplant team had already rejected me months ago. He went on to tell me that my heart disease is already too far advanced and that there was too much damage beyond the heart as well, namely in my gastrointestinal system and in my autonomic nervous system.

He told me that all that can be done is to try and manage my symptoms and to slow the disease's progression, but progress it will. He told me that despite these efforts I will feel worse and worse and that the disease will advance until I finally die.

He did not want to give me an estimate of time. He told me that if there is anything that I wanted to do, do it now. When pressed he finally said one year, maybe two years, tops.

His nurse was less optimistic; she said it would probably be half of that.

Near the end of the visit my doctor said that he would ask the transplant team to take another look at my case, but that he did not think that they would change their verdict. He said that he would schedule another cardiac MRI later this year to compare with the one done in March. That one was really bad and this retest will tell us exactly how much worse things have become.

My bloodwork showed some big improvements in my Pro B-type naturietic peptide and in my troponin levels, but they were both still way too high. He said that the results would not change my treatment nor the inevitable outcome of my disease.

I will continue my treatments and I will do all that I can, but it seems that I am fighting a delaying action. I am now wearing a medical alert bracelet to let local doctors know that I have this rare disease. Only 3500 people in the U.S. have my diagnosis as of 2021 and it is largely unknown even in the largest of cities.

I am still coming to terms with this news. I have known for a long time that this disease was fatal, but I had retained the hope of a heart transplant as a last resort. That final, last chance, hail Mary hope has been taken from me now and it has driven the finality of the situation home.

I can tell you that I will fight this as hard and for as long as I can. You already know from my long winded post history that I don't know when to give up. Thank you for caring enough to read all of this. I enjoy my time here with you.

That must have felt like a sledgehammer. Sorry to hear the news and it seems incredible that this news wasn’t communicated to you earlier.
What can one say about such news? All that comes to mind is that I will continue to pray for you and hope that the 2 year suggestion is smashed and you go beyond that with the stubbornness you mention.

Very best wishes now and for the future.

We are pulling for you to get your transplant. I know you will keep up the good fight. We have some experience with serious health issues as follows.

[Show spoiler]My beautiful niece finally succumbed to MS (multiple sclerosis) yesterday, September 4, 2023 after about 40 years. She was 65 years old. By the time she was 30 she could no longer feed or take care of herself. Over the years the disease twisted and deformed her body, in the last several years her hair started falling out to the point she was almost bald.

Don’t know how she did it but she maintained a positive attitude and was cheerful. She loved Snicker Bars and Pizza. On our visits to the nursing home we would take turns feeding her pizza and that would make her day.

She was and will continue to be an inspiration to us everyday as in, get up, get going and do something useful, make everyday count.

Today's groceries trip resulted in a few new movies

The Suicide Squad was new marked used for $5.99 and had an expired DC.
Nightmare Before Christmas was new and missing the DC sheet so I exchanged it for a copy and thankfully that was intact.

I don't buy much TV compared to movies and I tried to look away from this series but I do love the original game and being about half price made me cave in and order.

Considering this article https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/bu...ks-1235578907/, Aaron Paul saying he received almost nothing for Netflix streaming Breaking Bad (despite it being a mega hit on there), the general consensus that Netflix was much less lucrative for writers, and the rumblings that they are the ones dragging out these strikes, I have to wonder how much of their profitability is a matter of exploiting the creators.

Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts. They are much appreciated.

I added three more titles yesterday:

and

That last one, A Time to Love and a Time to Die, was a Spanish import and it is a made on demand burned BD-R. Hopefully, it is not a bootleg, but it is listed here at blu-ray.com.

I guess I should have got the German edition instead. Live and learn.

Blind buy for me, really enjoyed the first one. Shame there was no 3D option though.

Are these movies so scary that you expect to sh** yourself while watching them?

I didn’t like Spiral but this very much looks like old school Saw.

One of the best titles I have purchased in awhile. Great writing, great cast, and great direction.
