Whenever I want to know what time it is, I find myself looking at this friggin' bracelet. I guess I can't unlearn my railroad conditioning.

Tomorrow I head back to St. Louis in order to attend the Amyloidosis support group at Washington University for the first time. Their schedule and mine have never aligned until now. I have never been to a support group before, so I don't really know what to expect.

Then on Friday I travel to St. Louis again for my seventh treatment in my drug trial. Hopefully, enduring these four hour sessions is buying me some time.

Lastly, I was visiting the Exoricst 4K thread and I learned that forum member gj217 is dying. See his post here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=3697 There are so many kind and thoughtful people in this thread that I thought that may be you would like to show him the same support that you have so kindly shown to me.
I hope that support group is beneficial for you.

Good luck for Friday.

You can't have it both ways.

On the one hand you say that "Generation Z" are flocking to watch shorts with the Youtube app on their smart TVs and then you also claim that they won't buy a TV at all.

Not that it will convince you of anything, but all of my Generation Z neighbors own TVs and they even watch movies on them. One of them just shattered the screen on their new 75" TV; they claim that their toddler threw the remote at the screen. I think the dad threw his PS5 controller at it. Having a temper can be expensive.

That wasn’t my claim. I am talking about older folk, Tik Tok and YouTube already know they have ownership of gen Z. The target is the older demographics that watch these 15 second videos far less than Gen Z.

We already know through official stats that the over 40 age group are engaging with YouTube on their smart tv. The fear is that short shorts will be just as successful and eat away at long form, scripted tv. (And impacting consumption of movies)

Hey gang, it’s been a minute. I’m glad to see all the usual players are still active in the thread, especially Mr. Vilya Life’s been keeping me busy. I can’t remember the last time I bought a movie. Although I did take my teenager to see Blue Beetle a couple weeks back. We really enjoyed that, but wondering if we’ll ever see Aquaman 2? Still haven’t decided if I’m going with Optimum or Frontier for an internet provider. Given I’m rarely home and dealing with a custody dispute with my ex at the moment, I don’t see me utilizing it much. But it might motivate me to finally getting my place furnished more Y’all take care.

From Aug 18 to Sep 05 I count about 49 titles on UHD BD.

Good luck on your trip today.

Sure the Studios are putting out the Discs, but the Revenue Report shows a decline in sales. Making DVD's are the cheapest, then BD is 1.5xDVD and 4K UHD is 3xDVD Cost. So that's why IMO the Studios are making DVD's and BD, but will hold off on 4K UHD. Here is Heath again at Cereal at Midnight talking about the Cost of making Discs!

I hope they don't stop making 4KBD. I could live if they did though. If they stop making BD, that would really disappoint me.

DVDs cost about 50¢ per disc to make. If 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray costs 3 times as much then they are about $1.50 per disc to make.

Sounds like a nice profit to me.

The True Cost of 4K - YouTube
Your quoted youtuber is no more an expert on this subject than anyone else who can upload a video.

Your opinion is irrelevant. We are getting more 4K disc releases, not less, and this objective and verifiable fact makes any opinion of yours to the contrary completely wrong. Your opinion flies in the face of fact, which is often the case.

4K discs obviously cost more to make, but they also cost more to buy, which more than negates their higher cost of manufacture. The bottom line is that the studios and their licensees would not be increasing the number of titles released on the 4K disc format if they were losing money doing so.

Despite the studio's willingness to lose money on their streaming services, which they believe will only grow into profitability sometime in the future, they will not tolerate losing money with discs especially as there is a declining market for them. The disc market has to show profitable results in order to continue to exist while streaming just has to show promise of eventual profits or the illusion of them.

Good luck for Friday.
I am glad that I went.

There were only about 10 patients there representing three types of this rare disease, but one of them pulled me aside at the end of the meeting to tell me that he has already outlived his prognosis by over two years and counting. He encouraged me to keep a positive outlook no matter what any of the doctors tell me.

Gee Penguin I'm glad you're not running any Company I might want to invest, all you are talking about are basics for making a Disc. There are other Costs like the Scan, Art Work, and Packaging plus a lot more. Walmart says people don't want to spend more than $15 for a Movie Disc, and the Revenue Report shows the Average Disc price is only $21 BD price not 4K UHD. So would you put your money on a declining Market?

I don't want to pay more than $9.99 per mainstream 4K disc title, so I have to allocate funds towards the pricier boutique offerings.

I do prioritize some mainstream titles if they're high wants. For example, Prey will be a Day 1 title.

  • Making a new scan is required for streaming as well, the additional cost of authoring the disc is negligible.
  • Artwork is cheap too, the vast majority of the time they use images they already have from theatrical or streaming promotions.
  • Disc cases cost less than 50¢ for cases that can hold up to 4 discs.

For a prime example of how cheap discs are to make just look at the Game of Thrones 4K set:

It is currently selling for $120 on Amazon and includes 30 4K Blu-ray discs and 3 standard Blu-ray discs. I don't know the exact manufacturing cost of each 4K disc (and unlike you I don't pretend to) but I guarantee that Warner Bros is not selling the set at a loss.

4K Blu-ray discs must cost less than $4 each to manufacture. Selling a 4K Blu-ray discs for $15-$20 is still a decent profit. Physical media is definitely a shrinking market but it certainly isn't losing any money.

I may have to sign up for the club again soon with all of the Disney+ shows getting physical releases.

I was a member for years, but eventually canceled it as there wasn't a ton that I was wanting (and even with newer movies, I was often going for store exclusive Steelbooks, so the club didn't do me much good there). And while I tried to stay on top of canceling any automatically sent titles I didn't want, there would be occasions where one would slip through and just annoy me.

With the currently announced shows, I'd like to get them on both BD and 4K (would prefer combo packs, but they opted to sell the formats separately), so the club discount would help ease the cost of that.

But I need to weigh the benefits against other required purchases to meet the club purchase requirements.
