Painfully slow today. It’s been a little creaky for months now imo.

Ha Ha, no.

I do really enjoy Blu Ray audio music discs. It's like a secret double bonus because I crafted a home theater for movies specifically and it turns out it has a second function as a high res audio studio.

I love sitting and listening to a full album and being kind of taken by the music.

I enjoy some new music also but pop songs are listened to in a much more casual way in the car or while doing things.

I am sorry to say that I do not own anything on blu-ray audio. I should give something a try on it. Maybe that Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon blu-ray audio would be a great place to start? Do you have any other recommendations?

The Dark Side is a great way to start.

Most of my Blu Ray Audio discs are Pink Floyd related (Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, The Endless River, The Division Bell, Pulse, Delicate Sound of Thunder, Atom Heart Mother and others.)

I would like to get the Jethro Tull Aqualung Blu Ray audio if I could find a copy. The Beatles and I believe Led Zeppelin have several but they tend to be in box sets so they are expensive.

Apple music has a lot of ATMOS surround sound music including a version of Dark Side in ATMOS and just a ton of other stuff. It's a great way to dip into surround sound music and see what you may want on higher quality media.

Although I don’t own any of the Pink Floyd albums (yet), I recently dipped my toe into hi-res audio.

Depending on your tastes Quadio four track blu-ray releases recently came out for Black Sabbath’s Paranoid & Alice Cooper’s Billion Dollar Babies (if you haven’t heard this album you should). They sound amazing and come in both 2 & 4 channel lossless mixes.

Some more Rhino Quadio releases are available here:

https://store.rhino.com/en/rhino-sto...o/?pdshow=true

A few upcoming releases were just announced, including Charles Mingus, if Jazz is more of your scene.

I am a big fan of Pink Floyd, so I am glad to see so many of their titles represented, but where is The Wall?

Jethro Tull's Aqualung should be an excellent choice; I always thought that the CD could have sounded better than it does. I hope that you can find a copy at a reasonable price.

As for Apple, I have zero intentions of entering their ecosystem. Another instance where I much prefer physical media.

Where do you prefer to buy your blu-ray audio discs?

Thank you for the link, but it leads to this message:

Even so, it does lead to links to other parts of Rhino's website. Another rabbit hole to explore!

I suppose the problem with the Wall is so much of it is credited Roger Waters and he is difficult for Pink Floyd publishing to work with. When the Immersion Box Sets were released The Wall lacked any High Res Audio.

Animals was ready in 2018 but delayed until 2022 because Roger was and always will be willing to make things difficult for Pink Floyd. Small details and bickering make for difficulties.

I would LOVE a better release of the Wall on Physical Media. Even the film redone for UHD would be great. There is a high res audio stereo version of the Wall now on Apple Music and perhaps on other streaming services that have High Res Audio.

I tend to buy a lot from Amazon and to a lesser extent in person at Best Buy. Many of the Blu Rays I have came from box sets like The Early Years or The Latter Years or the Immersion sets. So they aren't readily available alone yet. Hopefully, with the single disc releases like Animals and Dark Side this is changing.

Roger Waters is a pain in the guess where; his ego is large enough to eclipse the sun.

is available on a Spanish blu-ray with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. I don't have this one, so I can't vouch for it, but I have been tempted to get it and check it out for myself.

Default Some Target Stores Drastically Scaling Back Disc Sections

quotes

"As physical media struggles to retain a retail presence, one national chain — Target — seems to be further reducing the space it grants to DVDs and Blu-rays."

"Though it hasn’t removed DVDs and Blu-ray Discs from its stores completely, Target’s latest round of shelf-space reduction for optical disc could represent the chain’s final push in reducing its retail footprint for optical disc before abandoning it altogether."

"Once a dominant component of electronics sections, optical disc formats have been subjected to declining shelf space as DVD and Blu-ray sales figures have dropped 20% to 30% per year. Walmart last year notably scaled back its DVD sections by as much as 20%."

Speaking of Blu-ray audio, can anyone actually here a difference between 24/96, 24/192 and the same master at CD quality? I have the Immersion Box Set from 2011 and I really can't hear a difference on the stereo version other than the 24/96 PCM having what sounds like slightly less dynamic range compression. The 5.1 and Quad are cool on a surround setup. Sort of reminds me of SACD and DVD-Audio in that it just never took off.

I'm not seeing stores getting rid of physical discs, but rather shifting to online sales. I remember when Best Buy had a huge giant section of CDs. Now they don't even have them in store. But they're still making and selling music on the format. I think movies on disc will be the same. There will always be streaming and digital for those who want convenience, but disc will stick around. It's still a money maker.
