I still haven't had an opportunity to watch a movie yet (not enough time/still going through the break-in period). I've been burning through CDs, but the speakers are about 4 feet apart so naturally, the soundstage isn't the best.
I have an exam Thursday, but I'm hoping I can sneak a movie in Wednesday as soon as my package from Amazon shows up (ordered Inception, Toy Story 3, The Town, and Salt). Otherwise it'll have to wait until next week as I'll be in Chicago this weekend. How are you liking the LCR? |

![]() I've put the LCR through it's paces with all the action and war movies I can throw at it and it performs like a champ. I have been playing music through it the last couple of days and it sounds wonderful. BTW, I'm curious, how would you know it if you damaged the transducers in these speakers, would it sound off or not play at all? Not that I'm worried, just wondering how you would determine if there is damage. |

I finally got around to hooking up the Energy speakers but since I have not purchased a new receiver I got my old Sony str-dh710 powering them for right now. The 710 was great with Polk rm7s but with the new Energy it is seriously lacking, there is very little bass coming from the sub and the speakers sound extremely animinc. I wonder If I can damage the speakers by powering them with a receiver that has so little power? Before I got the "real" speakers I didn't understand why people would get stand alone amps, now I understand. I hope the Yamaha RX-V667 has enough juice for my set up.

Sucks that it's taking longer to get your paper work processed, but enjoy your free time before you lose majority of it working. ![]() Unlike you, I can't play music/movies constantly since I'm not at home, but I'm starting to actually notice that my RC-30's are starting to open up nicely. As for my LCR, I guess it will take some time. Still loving it of course! As for your question, I can't answer that but maybe Steve or Olivier can chime in. Hmmmm.... I wonder back in 2009 when my C-100 bookshelf speaker wasn't sounding right even though it was brand new. Maybe I damaged it during break in period or I just had a defective one? ![]() Quote:

It's just lowly cf-30s,cb-5s,cc-5, and a esw-c10 but I will put up pics once everything is right.

The 667 should be fine, better than the str-dh710, good thing about it also is if you ever feel it's not enough you have preouts on it, I warn you because the Yamahas are not known to be powerhouse but they sound absolutely beautiful.

I got a chance to listen to the denon 1911 and the yamaha 667 and they both sounded to me exactly the same.

Do you think that the low power of the 710 can harm the speakers or is it beneficial since the speakers are still in the process of being broken in?

The main reson why I cling to the Denon so much is that I read about Yamaha's power problems.

There is a thread on here about somebody who went from AVR-591 to rx-v467 and he was very disappointed with the power. I think the 467 claims 105W per channel and the 591 only 75W but the power consumption tells a different story.

basically that if you raise the volume on the receiver that it does not lose power for a split second by driving it too hard.
The Denon may have a little more power but again it's the same rated wattage and I don't think Denon rate their receiver with all channels driven, the reason Callas and I guided you towards the Yamaha is because of preouts option and we speak from experience, same way we felt the CC-10 would be better for you. Now I say give your speaker some time and you will see what the can do, I could tell you to get a budget HK like the 1600 but I am affraid you are going to have HDMI issues altho HK are High current so they provide good watts and a lot of drive even with the rated 50wpc, this is all channels driven and 65 in stereo for their entry level is not bad at all. I would personally stick to the Yamaha and get an Emotiva amp down the road if I would be on a budget. Just trying to help. ![]() |

I don't think the 667 has as much power as the 1911 but they both claim the same 90W per channel. The silver lining with the 667 is that it has pre-outs so the potential lack of power can be fixed, with the 1911 I would have to get rid of it.

Look I tell you you may not feel the Denon is enough for you also so you will step it up again and change your receiver, if the Yamaha is not enough then you get yourself an external amp and be Happy that may result costing the same but the external amp will alway be better than a receiver and you can keep it. If you feel the Dennon is better than trust yourself and get the Denon, i know the Yamaha is not known for it's power but you have some flexibility. |

Time will show if I made a mistake with the CC-5. I may have to eat some humble pie in the future but at least someone will learn from my mistake. I don't think I have a problem with clipping because I'm keeping the volume rather low (I may be completely wrong about this too).

I never had an issue with the 710 clipping, you should be fine there. The lack of bass in the towers is due to the ability of the Sonys amp you have seperate the bass properly, and youre still in the break-in period. In terms of the sub, you may check the gain in the receiver and possibly recalibrate the speakers. Also, just because your last sub worked in the spot you have the current sub, doesn't mean that the new sub will give you the best bass response in that spot again. All subs react differently in a room, you may have to play with placement, and it needs to probably break-in also for 25-50 hrs. With the Energys, my Sony 920 was powerful enough to drive the Energys I had with relatively good dynamics, with my Dynaudios, its OK with some stuff, but doesn't dig deep enough to really pull out and seperate the bass the way the Dyns would like. Do yourself a huge favor, and go to http://www.accessories4less.com and buy either the Onkyo 707 or the Marantz 5003. Both will give you pre-outs and enough dynamic power to run your energys. |

I don't want to go back in terms of technology and I never buy used/refurbished electronics. The Marantz SR5005 is $800, how much more power will it give me over the yamaha 667? The 667 can be had for $350 on weekends from newegg.com and with the money left over from not spending $800 on the Marantz I can consider some stand alone amps.
