Lee, we don’t need numbers to confirm the theatrical movies doing better. Execs have admitted that themselves.

On the subject of streaming, is there any recent Netflix films that are likely to be released by Criterion? I have All Quiet On The Western Front.

I have Netflix but haven’t watched it since Stranger Things/Cobra Kai last episode.

Can you provide some links I can look at?

For some reason this website doesn't allow you to just link a video which contained the time stamp. Go to 55min.
You don't need numbers when it's your claim.

The analysis was from this source but it is behind a paywall: https://entertainment.substack.com/p...ilms-massively

So despite me saying there are a few hits and it's pot luck, your examples could be literally the most viewed things on Netflix for this year and whenever Squid Game came out.

The Irishman got a BD release from Criterion and got a 4K disc release of Power of the Dog. There's a couple more I think, but don't remember which ones.

Have them both, sorry, my bad, should have stated more recent ones, this year maybe?

I just don't spend a huge amount of time in this thread. I'll read it once in a while then write something and not check it again for weeks or months. The last post I said was cable is an old person tax which you replied to that a lot of people still use it in your country. I could have modified my post to say an old and sports tax but I don't have anything substantive to say. Even the sports watchers seem to be shifting to streaming these days in the us.

The main times I respond is when somebody says something absurd or something I agree on that I can meaningfully add to.

Fair enough, I was just starting to get paranoid because it happened a few times. Apologies.

They have adapted very well.
sports watchers at least get some value out of cable television. A lot of old people are somewhere between not knowing what they are being billed, paying 200 dollars when they only watch the free channels and not being able to negotiate a price or the ability to change services.

A large number of old people aren't getting much value at all out of cable its mostly just a tax on them because they mentally cant adapt and cable companies know that and have a billing system that charges people more unless they complain which old people are not very capable of.

They want people to switch to fibre based streaming box/puck here so we can’t fast forward through ads, if we want to do so on the new service, it will cost £5 per month. They are all the same in terms of being rip offs sadly. They punish those that are honest and want good quality.

Outside of the upcoming Pinnochio release, don't think there's been one this year.

You mentioned All Quiet on the Western Front - the most recent remake? That was not a CC release.

Best Buy is apparently ending physical media sales in their stores, after the upcoming Holiday Sales period and will eventually cease online sales of it, in 2024. There's also talk that they are leaving physical media all-together, also which includes video games, which take up a chunk of their in-store space and whatnot.

No, it’s not. I’m not having g a very good day, am I?

It’s a media book but certainly not CC.

There's no official PR release from BB, but Bill Hunt and his "industry sources" are reporting it:

It certainly fits with what I've been seeing in my local Best Buys. Much of what they are stocking on the shelves is just old filler from the warehouses, with new releases peppered in the mix.

Loki is cheaper at Walmart.

My Best Buy still has a much larger movie section than the Vinyl & Video Games areas combined.

My Target is getting in more media of all kinds.

To be fair, Best Buy has been in a downward spiral for a long time. Every time I have stopped into my local BB, they barely had any physical media save for a few new releases. It's all appliances, phones, headphones, gaming stuff and computer stuff.

I am surprised they will not continue to sell online though. Maybe people had enough of their ripoff prices.

Target and Walmart are pretty much empty of physical media where I live, except for DVD and Vinyl. Sometimes, they have a sprinkling of old Blu-Ray releases, but they don't even bother to fill the new release rack most of the time, so you shouldn't waste your time going there to pick up something new.

As for dropping media all together, that allows them to cut a huge chunk out of their operating costs, for physical storage/distribution of stock and frees up significant space in store "warehouses" and the sales areas, which can then be devoted to other things, like more TVs or whatever sale items are going on sale soon.
