I'm not projecting anything. Multiple question marks and tossing an F-bomb at me in your response is not a sign of just laughing something off. It's quite the opposite, actually.

Like I already said, relax. I made an (incorrect) assumption which I prefaced as an assumption.

Is that the final artwork for Part II because I'm very confused by the gun on display? Is it a machine gun or a RPG?

It's also an original poster, mostly

Mike is right, political/social commentary is all Jim. I have the original script and it’s 90% on screen. All of the action and plot is from the creative mind of Cameron. The only major change is that Rambo originally had a sidekick and Stallone rewrote the character as the POW. I do however think that Mike misses the point of the movie.

Frankly I find it much more fun than II, which is really kind of a grind. It rode the wave of the Vietnam genre at the time and everybody went to see it, but even given its short running time, it's tediously paced. My least favorite of the whole series.
It actually didn't. Uncommon Valor was 1983, but Missing in Action in 1984 actually ripped off the "plot" about rescuing POWs from the script for Rambo II and was made quickly to come out first. So Rambo II didn't ride any "wave," it just got ripped off before it even came out. (And for the record, Missing in Action II was originally supposed to be the first one, but they switched it and the sequel to beat Rambo into theaters.)

It's a Colt RKYA-RPMG1. The abbreviation stands for "Colt Rambo-Killz-Your-Ass, Rocket Propelled Machine Gun, [version] 1."

I like that Rambo II was a precursor to the same themes presented for the emotional torment/PTSD issues that Ripley experiences in ALIENS. The idea of "going back" to the place where she never wanted to go (ie, Rambo having to relive his experiences by going back to 'Nam).

I'm well aware "for the record" that MIA2 was made first. Either way, Vietnam movies were already entrenched in theaters by the mid 80s and the subject matter was "hot" and commercial. That's what I was saying. RAMBO II made an enormous amount of money, far more than the (far better) original, first and foremost because of the subject matter. Don't really care what ripped off what -- just making an observation as to why II was so insanely popular at the time. Had it come out a few years later, it doesn't generate that kind of insane box-office response most likely.

I'm very curious about this 'restoration' on First Blood. Great film but it's never looked great, particularly the forest scenes. I will be anxious for the first reviews.

Also, did Lionsgate ever find the original audio stems? I know the DVD and I believe the Blu-ray, are a matrixed form of 5.1?

I dunno if it'll look "great" by purely objective standards even with a brand new 4K restoration from the original negative, but if it looks anything like as filmic as SC's Deer Hunter restoration then we are in for a 35mm treat.

Looks like the U.K. releases on the 4k’s are missing the commentaries on 2 and 3 and the Selling the Hero featurette on 3 according to Zavvi and Amazon. The U.K. versions show the restoration features on all of them. The U.S 4k of First Blood 1 is the only one shown as having the restoration featurette the other 2 don’t!

Also the U.K. ones are being released by Studio Canal, are they better/worse or the same as Lionsgate when it comes to transfers etc?

You have two current choices, yellow or red.

Man, I can’t wait for David Caruso’s hair to pop out on HDR.

So, it seems like there will be no three film set for either the U.S. or U.K.?

FYI - No Dolby Vision, that's what Studio Canal told me.

I watched the Optimum Blu-ray of First Blood again last night to compare the framing between that and the Studio Canal 2011 remaster and i noticed a pretty amusing goof in the very first shot of the film... Before we see Stallone walk down the lane in the wideshot, you can see someone in the corner of the left-hand side of the screen who clearly calls to Sly to give him his cue and then disappears from frame. You can see it in both masters, but it's more noticeable in the version that is correctly framed...

Oh well... I'll take that over camera "barndoors" being visible in shots.

Yeah, but DV can look better and a bit more future proofed since it's unlikely they'll revisit these in the future. We're still dealing with the old First Blood BD here from 2007.
