I’d like to see what’s been going on with Buzz and Jessie after TS4

So bring back Tim Allen and Joan Cusack.

Surely @monterey jack can provide some evidence from Disney’s official social media accounts where the gay character was heavily promoted? Right?? Oh the irony of some of you incels is too much

With or without the kiss, it wasn’t a great story.

Movie would have flopped anyway.

If a movie is great, a gay scene would not hurt its box office. Some people may not like it, a few people would boycott but the movie would still be a hit with a great story, acting and direction.

Top Gun Maverick would not have been hurt if we found out two of the pilots were gay.

Bros was hurt due to a very unlikable lead(Billy Eichner). A lot of the people were funny and some even hammed up their stereotype but Billy was horrible.

Monty has been brainwashed to worry about things that aren’t real. Sometimes we all need to step away from the screens and rejoin the real world.

The biggest problem was making a children's movie about time dilation.

Exactly. Instead of the light-hearted outer space romp that kids would respond to, they got a PG-rated Interstellar.

Here's something to get people over that damn kiss.
[Show spoiler]Zurg being Buzz was one of the biggest
boneheaded twists of any movie i've seen.
I just resubscribed to D+ for a month to catch up on a few films I did want to watch before they increase their rate next month. I went ahead and took a look at that kiss scene. That was nothing. Just a little peck on the lips. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if it wasn't brought up in this thread because it was extremely brief. I had the impression it was a long wet kiss or something.

I am absolutely stunned by the amount of vitriol over such an innocuous thing, everywhere I see this movie mentioned people are triggered even months later. How embarrassing of them.

Anyway, the visuals are incredible. From a pure CG eye candy standpoint this has to be one of the best displays of 4K and Dolby Vision. It's my new friends n' family demo disk for sure. Every frame is packed with detail that feels considered and yet appropriately stylistic. I also like the faux film grain and found it appropriate.

I can't believe how far animation has come when I'm noticing that the glass in this movie is by far the most realistically rendered that I've seen to date. The rendering techniques for materials make them tangible to a degree that's simply incredible.

It's a darn shame that we may never get the full IMAX ratio on disk. Also, though I really enjoyed the sound design, it's too bad that the dynamic range is weak as per Disney's usual. As for the movie, I enjoyed myself enough. The basic plot was engaging but I would have preferred a different script with less Marvelesque quips and more room for heavier moments to breathe but it was more entertaining than most kid movies for me personally. (The visuals help GREATLY in my enjoyment, however)

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the 5.1 audio mix on Disney+ has more bass than the disc's audio mix? The Blu-ray review describes the LFE as having "next to no sense of power, potency, or lifelike oomph and engagement" but on Disney+ I watched a few scenes like the first few minutes and when
[Show spoiler] Buzz finally reaches 100% hyperspeed.

Compared with audiovisual experience I had in Dolby Cinema, the bass levels don't seem to have a huge downgrade, but it does make me feel bad for those whose first experience of this movie will be through the physical disc if it's really true that the LFE was apparently nerfed.

But how did Variety get the story?

Not a marketing social media campaign but I'll just take a guess that the PR dept sent the story to a contact at Variety and it was meant as virtue signaling that Disney would be inclusive and stand up to China and Ron DeSantis.

Disney is on your side LGBTQ+ no matter the financial consequences!

Given the underperformance of this film and other Disney films I'm wondering how they will move forward with Bob Iger back at the helm.

It is a BUSINESS after all, not a non profit social justice company.

Once this became a story people began to take sides.

Also I'm not saying the scene is wrong [didn't bother me, just wasn't a great story].

The 4K went for under 10 with the Target B2G1 so yeah I bought it and gave the bluray away to a friend who wanted to watch it.

Exactly. It was a terrible film with or without the fluff to appease to certain folks.

I agree wholeheartedly that the visual are incredible, and yes, it is a shame that the full IMAX version is not available on disc. Some of the details you pointed out in the glass elements and such is amazing, as is the very subtle lighting effects that are used. This is definitely cutting-edge animation, as far as I'm concerned.

This was, hands down, one of the best animated movies of 2022 in my book.

Just noting that the goalposts have been moved from "Disney is pushing filth onto innocent kids!!!" to "some PR person from Disney chatted with some writer at Variety, and the writer added the PR stuff to an article, and that's really just like pushing filth onto innocent kids when you consider just how much preteens worship century-old movie rags."

Or at least the best-looking animated film of 2022.

I have a question. Does this film have a grainy look that Raya and the Last Dragon had, or no?

Try asking in the bass thread at AvS Forum.
