![]() Did Kung Fu Panda, Jurassic Park, now doing Master and Commander. When I did my speaker level settings with just noise, I got a bit of a shock, more on that when I finish my tests. |

Well, on the 03, I have my Sub level at +4.5 dB, and the Dynamo is set at a level of +3 Gain (1/3rd of the max) - but when I hooked up the AA, I set it at its midpoint level. So I sat back, around where my center surround is, and let the test tone go. JEEZ did it catch me off-guard. Damn room started to vibrate a bit. I had to tone it down to about 25-30% gain. If it needs to be broken in more, ohhh boy.
Continuing on. Tests! Let me start with the negatives. With the Dynamo, I could simply feel the vibrations - but with the AA, due to its ported design, I could hear the air being forced out through the little slot - no doubt aided by the fact that its next to me. But she's a wee bit of a chuffer! I can probably remedy this by adding a bit more polyfill into it a la Big Daddy. So, this is on my to do list. But she is definitely powerful. Doesn't have the detail that the Dynamo does though, on the Transformers Ironhide sweep and the Kungfu Panda vibration of Po's stomach during his fight - the bass sounded more precise and nuanced on the Dynamo than on the Sub-10. It sounds like I'm making my ears sound like the pinnacle of human evolution, but I could tell more details and differences on the ML. Trust me on this. Each step of theropod and sauropod on Jurassic Park was executed brilliantly. A tiny bit of port noise again ensued during some scenes, but if this can be removed with Polyfill, this could be a fantastic subwoofer. It is a HELL of a bargain at $160. Once I fill it with some more polyfill, I will report back again - maybe it'll have broken in by then. I have Master & Commander running right now. |

JJ,
you are used to a sealed box that is far from you. Now, you have a ported (female) box that is too close to you. That is why you are too conscious of the port and the air flow through it. The 4 subwoofers in my room are all ported (2 down firing and 2 front firing), stuffed, and far away from me. I am so used to the ported sound that I don't hear any problems. Another factor is that ported subs go lower than sealed subs. You probably hear things that are different than before. This subwoofer is a little monster. Reminds me of a couple of kids in my family. You need to adjust the levels of the subwoofers and experiment with their placement in the room. Give it a couple of days and you will get used to the new sound. |

a little tidbit by the way,
most people who may have or will be purchasing this subwoofer, for an upgrade, may compare their previous subwoofer (which, i will be assuming be mainstream subwoofers, htib's etc), would find a significant difference between the two. most commercial subwoofers would hit their sweetspot at around 30hz, and work upwards toward 40hz, giving you enough heart pumping detail. this one, would be a different experience, knowing that it hits LOWER and CLEANER with this subwoofer. it takes an adjustment period to recognize this, and well, its a learning experience. comparing this to higher end subwoofer,of course, would be a different angle. its a different class at that point. KFP was considered a great demo material at skidoosh, to see how good your subwoofer is. ![]() |

JJ, make sure you get the fire retardent Poly-fill when you make your trip to Wally-World and a Poly-fill pad as well to go underneath your new subwoofer and on top of the new riser you are making.

Im seriously considering the AA HD12 but due to certain room restrictions it will need to be placed about 2-3 inches form the wall. According to BD on a previous post he seemed to strongly reccomend placing these subs a a couple of feet away from the wall. Sooooo, should I bother with one of these when my placement of the sub will probably cuase some port noise issues?? Or is there some hope for my scenerio?
