Not worth getting down about. There is a reason Walmart made their move several weeks ago, plus we have Amazon also.

I've been called many things (like anti-theater LOL) I've never been called lazy - not by anyone that knows me anyway. In preparation for my year end, I worked 4 straight 12 hour days last week. By the time I got home last night and watched the hockey game (DVR recorded), it was well after midnight when I finally got a chance to meet my movie watching needs.

I don't attend the theater anymore because I have a more enjoyable experience at home. People suck. At home, I watch alone, or with loved ones. I recently discovered a beer brewed in my mom's native Sri Lanka. A SRI LANKAN beer - who would have thunk it.. I bought a couple of bottles a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked! At home, I eat and drink what I want. Between the hockey game and the UHD of PREDATOR 2, I must have downed (none of your business) bottles..

This morning, after dropping my son off at the train station and my daughter at University, I decided to fill the 2 hour hole in my schedule with THE PREDATOR. Based on reputation, no one else in the house wanted to see this particular crapfest. I didn't have to spin the wheel of cinema pitfalls. On my personally calibrated system, this turd looked and sounded ridonculously amazing in ATMOS/4K goodness.

I recently replaced my front row of seats with adjustable beds. I brewed myself a caraffe of my favourite coffee and enjoyed the movie in more comfort than one could ever find in a commercial theater...reclining less than 10 feet away from my 133" accoustically transparent scope screen... in the same room that I will be conducting ZOOM meetings all day tomorrow .... on my day off..

People don't attend the theater because there are more convenient, better options that fit into their busier than ever lifestyles... and because people suck... Laziness does not enter the equation..

My post wasn't directed at you but it seems to have hit a nerve. I have no doubt you are the hardest working person in North America with the best video/audio equipment available. Regardless, I stand by the statement that technology makes society lazy.

I wonder what people will do if streaming is priced to high? They can cut back to a single streaming service at a time, They can go back to physical, Sail the high seas or read a book etc etc.

Right now streaming services are jacking up prices and their aren't many good substitutes on the market. In the long run I wonder how big streaming will be if it loses its economic advantages and has to rely soley on its convenience advantage?

I can't recommend the piracy thing in any form.

Just seems people are getting in more legal trouble than they used to maybe it's just getting more coverage.

I also enjoy buying things I like to support them.

Same here. People have asked me why I don’t buy a ‘box’ to watch films, the answer is always the same. I actually care deeply about film and i support things I love.

They soon shut up.

I don't get this notion of people being so rude in the cinema. I've been 15 times this year in 5 different cinemas and I haven't had any experience close to bad. It was at evenings and weekends. Am I that lucky? Perhaps because I don't tend to go to franchise (teen boy) films that much the audience is more respectful, but I did see Across the Spiderverse. It is just not a good explanation that people in London are nicer.

It has to be said that people skipping the cinema and watching everything on streaming is massively hurting the industry.

As for more convenience, it's not necessarily a good thing. When you go to the cinema, you are going by its schedule. You can't pause it or do anything else while watching it (if you aren't rude) so you focus on it. This gives what you are watching more importance. At home, plenty of people do "background" watching or simultaneously use their phones. Perhaps they stop watching it mid way through because they find it boring. Now, I'm not saying anyone here does that, but streaming enables that sort of behaviour because there is no societal pressure against it.

Another reason for me to go is the increasing number of films that aren't getting Blu Ray releases. This year films like How to Blow Up a Pipeline, Rye Lane, and Theatre Camp didn't get releases. Netflix has bought several festivals films and it's unlikely they will see the light of day on disc. Films like The Killer, Hit Man, May December. And one of the biggest films of the year, Killers of the Flower Moon, might be an AppleTV exclusive. No thanks.

10 feet seems too close to a 133" screen. I'm less than 6 from my 85" Sony, with limited space, I'd be a bit farther back if I could, and I'm generally focused center screen. My attention will be drawn to far sides in the case of specific action or far from center character. Sitting that close to a 133" screen seems like sitting in the first 5 rows of a theater which I'd never do.

My wife and I use a monthly subscription service offered through AMC Theaters. For $22.95 a month we can see 3 movies a week, including premium screens such as IMAX and Dolby Cinema. It's a great deal and allows us to see movies in the theater 3-4 times in an average month. I would go more but adulting often gets in the way.

My point of all that is we are in a movie theater pretty frequently and rarely encounter rude guests. It does happen from time to time but not enough to ruin my enjoyment. Usually a shhh from my wife will resolve it lol.

My wife gets frustrated with me because if we sit down to watch a movie we can't be doing anything else. No eating a meal, no folding clothes or cleaning. All my attention must be on the movie.

Yeah, according to Mike Flanagan Netflix has no interest in releasing anything further on physical media. That's one of the main reasons he went to Amazon. Scorsese has a lot of pull so I would be surprised if KotFM didn't get a physical release, possibly from Criterion.

Dam I used to get blu-rays from Best Buy all the time. I still have a Best Buy credit card and tons of rewards stored up, though lately I've been using them as insurance in case I need to replace a TV or a kitchen appliance.

There any good online stores other than Amazon or Walmart I can change to once Best Buy quits on us?

I listed several below:

I fully expect the B&M’s, except Walmart, to move to online only for disc orders.
Most of these rarely have prices that are as low as Amazon.

Apart from the ones Wendell mentioned I use Grindhouse Video and DiabolikDVD quite frequently. Zavvi usually has higher prices but they have a great selection and some exclusives. Almost every boutique label also has a store on their website. I purchase frequently from Criterion, Arrow, Shout! Factory and Kino Lorber. If you are region free there is Lime Wood Media (for UK Powerhouse/Indicator titles), Eureka!, Second Sight and BFI.

That's why I'm not too upset about Best Buy exiting the physical media business. I haven't purchased from them regularly in years. There are a wealth of options for physical media collectors.

Snagged Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre 4K disc from GameFly for $8.99 used. Wanted to get D&D on there for the same price but it was sold out.

Also ordered Delicatessen 4K disc from OrbitDVD.

I almost exclusively use Bull Moose. They're based out of Maine and New Hampshire, so you'd probably get shipments quickly. They don't have sales, but most of their products are reasonably priced. However, they don't charge sales tax, and if you spend more than $45, they offer free shipping. Not paying sales tax and shipping often makes their total prices inline with other stores. I've always had great customer service and they package their stuff well.

I rarely have any problems. Last time I did was many years ago with ‘The Strangers’. It was a film very reliant on tension and atmosphere and some young guy with his friends thought he would put a paper bag over his head and tear holes for his eyes then walk to the restroom and back again in this manner.
People were laughing when he got up and when he got back so it killed the film for my sister and I. Went on a few minutes as well. Bought it on Blu-ray a while back and thoroughly enjoyed it in the privacy of my own home.
But except that, few problems.
