Well it looks like you guys are having a problem with Discs, Player troubles and Discs not playing right. With the Disc Market diminishing Studios and Distributors are having second thoughts on making Discs. No one has any figures on the cost of making Discs. Wendell was going to get this information but I guess he couldn't or the figures were poor. Here is a Video by iCritic talking about the Disc Market, and the slim Profit Margins. When he worked at Fry's Electronics at the height of the Disc Market, the Profit was $.30 to $1.00 a Disc!

So your argument for why physical media will die is from a video titled "Why physical media will survive without BestBuy."

Wendell probably give up on you because you don’t listen.

The only problem I have with discs is that I can’t stop buying them in bulk.

Why Physical Media Will Survive without Best Buy - YouTube
I knew when I posted about my problem with the Exorcist disc it was only a matter of time until you popped up. Of the 1200+ discs I've owned I have had a playback problem with maybe 3, including The Exorcist. That's less than a .01% failure rate.

Now let's compare that to streaming where I consistently have playback issues, quality dropping in the middle of content and artifacts and banding anytime the screen is slightly dark. And that is on a 1GB fiber internet connection. I will take my track record with discs over streaming.

I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to grasp but in general companies don't continue to offer products that aren't profitable. Unless it's a streaming service, in which case that appears to be their business model. But I and many others on here have pointed out that more discs are still released in an average week than many of us could hope to buy. Which means, and stay with me here, discs are obviously profitable enough for the studios to keep making them. In abundance. And Disney has even made good on their promise to make physical media a priority again. So they obviously see the financial benefit of it.

A random YouTube video, as usual, does not lend any credence to your anti-disc campaign. Especially when the thesis of the video is physical media will survive without Best Buy. Not sure what you were thinking with that one...

Another amazing day for Physical Media

Alchav, come back to the side of quality and restart your collection today. It won't be giving up, it will just be realizing there's something better.

Life is too short for second rate movie presentation.

Wait until these streaming services start dabbling with AI upscales and compression that will end up looking worse than built in normal upscaling. We all know it’s coming. AI is the latest buzz.

I am surprised at the rate AI is resulting in horrible things. For example videos of people doing things they didn't or wouldn't do. I like science and progress but it's getting scary fast.

Those old school Sci Fi cautionary tails were spot on I guess.

One of the biggest complaints was problems with SMB. I believe that one has been fixed.

I too have a last gen Shield Pro, they still haven’t fixed the match frame rate problem and I use the Refresh Rate app. Hardly use it or the Apple TV4K anymore.

Actually I did post the total cost of the new Spears and Munsil UHD Blu-ray test set. It included the 3 test disc, case, booklet and glasses. The figure was posted by Stacey Spears so it was not secondhand info. As usual, it showed that alchav21 is clueless about anything disc.

I think secretly Alchav has a bigger Physical collection than all of us but he wants to keep the discussion interesting.

Back in my Media Server days NFS protocol was 10x faster than SMB.

If Apple somehow went back to supporting bitstream the ATV4K would become the ultimate source of power in this universe. I would get back to having a media server based on Infuse in a heartbeat.

Somehow for some reason Apple chose this. And yet, they upgraded everything on Apple Music to lossless at no charge despite the fact most Apple hardware doesn’t support it. I need to go to Apple HQ and talk to them.

I imported this one a while back but have not gotten around to watching it yet. The review on this site says it is sourced from an older DVD era master but I'm just happy to have it in my collection. If this new disc is sourced from a new master a double dip may be in my future.

A shocking number of people think AI upscaling of SD to HD looks good. Read the comments on this video and weep:

Quote:
At some point the upscaling becomes so good that it actually looks like the current 4k 8k quality we have today.

Then everything old will be upscaled.

FIBER??!!

That's the word of the day!!!

Alchav is probably racking his brain trying to comprehend how it is possible for someone to have a fiber connection and NOT have streaming quality that is magically and automatically 100 times better than 4K disc.

He knows that I also have fiber internet but he says that because my upload speed is only 50 mbps to be the reason I don’t get better picture quality. LOL. How my UPLOAD speeds determine by DOWNLOAD quality is beyond me. Heheheheheheheh

It's funny, when I looked at the "preview" youtube embedded video and it started, I was like "Wow, it does look pretty decent". Then I expanded to fullscreen and even before they 2x zoomed you could easily see how terrible it looked.

And it's not like you have total control over your broadband speed. The "M125" package I am on gives me 50Mb/s. I'm not going to pay more for the nebulous "up to" speeds when the biggest usage would be streaming which I don't do anyway. A 4k UHD surpasses my entire available bandwidth.

You’re probably at an error rate of like 1 in ten thousand or higher. if you take a few steps.

Read the forum if the discs have a replication error that’s common.
Don’t buy discs with bad packaging like stacked discs or loose discs.
Don’t buy used.

Also you can violate these rules just check the discs within the return window because almost everyplace needs to take a return for a defective product in a reasonable window.
