Disc isn't always the best quality: there are things that are available via streaming in HD or 4K that are only available on DVD.
But with disc I know that there is no chance that the movies and TV shows in my collection will ever be downgraded. With discs the studios can't add DNR, they can't remove offensive material, they can't change the colors, they can't add shifting aspect ratios. The studios have done all of those modifications to streaming titles. |

Was in town for groceries so I stopped into Best Buy because it was Tuesday.
They had a Black Friday Deals section with everything I just bought at Amazon. When Best Buy lets go of Discs I wonder what they will sell. A lot of folks have a TV already and almost no one wants to upgrade sound systems for some reason. Video games purchased directly in the console have a lot of advantages. I don't see what Best Buy really offers anyone these days. My store has a large Appliance section but most people go to a hardware store for that now. I won't miss them but I think they may be going extinct. |

I fully expect Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray to move in the same direction as LD was, that is, supported by online orders only. Who knows, Walmart online may try to compete with Amazon on prices at some point in the future. I do not worry about the future availability Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray disc because there should be money to be made for sometime to come. Enthusiast supported LD for many years, some of us bought into D-VHS D-Theater knowing it would be replaced by Blu-ray. Trivia: How many of you knew the first Blu-ray disc in Japan was in a disc caddy? |

If the 4k is worse then the blu ray do you still buy the 4k version? I kind of want to by reservoir dogs but the coloring is kind of awful on the 4k version. Honestly I don't think the image improvements are worth the hack job of the color grading.

Don't know where you're getting that Reservoir Dogs on 4K disc has "color" issues. It's a great looking 4K disc. ![]() |

The review of Reservoir Dogs on here says
stunningly beautiful video Whenever colors are different it causes a lot of concern. I've been seeing this in the Mean Streets thread. |

I have seen it on iTunes and the color grading is ugly and pretty noticeable. It annoyed me to the point where switching to Netflix made a noticeable improvement.

I think colour grading is very much a personal thing, some despise a different look, no matter how subtle or obvious, while others go all in on their favourite films looking different and embrace it.
I remember Halloween going through this back in the DVD day, and on Blu-Ray, with back and forth about the look of the film dominating that specific thread topic. It applies to many films but it always divides people. |

The music biz is trying to keep old bands from re recording music and making new profits after Taylor Swift re-recorded most of her library. New isn't always better esp if you experienced the old version first. |
